Next Mutation: How would you have done it?
 

Anyone but Saban could have done it better. For starters, good writers, then good Turtle costumes, and good actors to play the parts.

If there HAD to be a female turtle, I don't think I'd do it. I wouldn't put my energy into something as doomed as that.

In a fanfic, femal turtles are acceptable, given that the writer is talented enough to weave them in properly. But in a show, April is the only girl that really works.

I would have made the fight scenes better. Other than that, it was fine. Ok, maybe there would be some other stuff, like Shredder, Splinter's costume, and that's about it.

Maybe. I'll agree it could have been done better than it was.

I'd really just like to see better costumes, perhaps with hard shells. And a decent Shredder. That'd be nice.

for I never got a chance to know how good any of the plots for the show would be. but I was in charge I would make the costumes look simalar to the ones from the movies, have a Splinter puppet since some reason the one in the show just look too tall to be a 4 foot Rat. Since alot of people dislike Venus so we would have her out.

Have more Shredder less Miscellous Villians that looks like the Movie version. And some other charaters like April,Casey, and some mutant animals for the Old Show Fans.
Perhaps Leatherhead, Utroms, and maybe Mondo.

It would of had better ratings if it was made the right way. Uncourse Laird didn't had that much control on TMNT then he does today.

Well I might not of got a chance to see NT:NM. but atleast I'm happy with the New Series on the FoxBox. So atleast there is a well plotted series of TMNT made.

Hmm, what to change, well, I'd leave Venus in (I don't really see what all the fuss is about, unless people are just being sexist), but I'd change the costumes a little (Raphael's mask looks like someone cut it from a rag and splinter's head looks like someone's wearing a stuffed animal). Also, I'd make the fight scenes more sinister, and have The Shredder defeated with brutal violence. As for those dragon creatures, they are just too weird. Wouldn't gigantic, fire-breathing, man-eating dragons be more appropriate? (Did they learn nothing from the Godzilla movies?). I'd also change the script. Oh yes, and include classic TMNT characters, like I don't know, maybe, April O'Neil, Casey Jones, Baxter Stockman.

Well, since I already am in the process of redoing TNM, I'll take from that, without giving away too many spoilers.

Honestly, I wouldn't change too much. I'd take out a lot of the bad jokes and sound effects. I'd also add April and Casey (though not in the first five eps.)

Shredder's defeat will be less pathetic (and get this, not at the hands of a Turtle.)

Umm, better costumes, too I guess. I'm mostly chopping and combining scenes. One big change would probably be Mei's (no nickname!) personality, she won't attempt slang, and will actually act like her father just died in her arms.

well they killed shredder....like in the 3rd ep...thats what made me mad...venus ws a kewl idea but her origin needed to be better. the turtles masks/costumes were ok but maybe done a bit diff. and the whole name was wrong. cuz i remember near the end of the old school show,because of the mutagen that mutated them it mate them mutae into monster like turtles at times of rage or intense emotion. so i thoght it was gonna be like that. was april even in the show? cuz i dont remember but if she wasnt i would have her and casey in the show. and the dragon dude who ever he was, was a total joke....reminded me of a bad power rangers bad guy....to make it worse they were even in a power rangers episode....now i like power rangers still(its getting better belive me) but TMNT on power rangers?? thats just stupid. 2 diff universes like that cant be together. and also it could of been a bit mroe mature. like how the movies felt..the show didnt have that feel...what was even weirder was they had the same train station house as they did in the movies. so was it kinda like a spin off? the fighting could of been better. and maybe insted of all new story plots use some of the plots from various TMNT comics.

Simply put, if I was in charge of TNM, I'd take one look at the script and say, in a George Carlin-ish tone, "Are you people f**king nuts? A 2-year-old with Downs Syndrome wouldn't want to watch this!"

BTW, shouldn't this be General Discussion? Since, as you may or may not know, TNM is in no way, shape or form part of TMNT according to me ;)

I wouldn't have done it at all. It would be better for the turtles to have undergone a 10 year hiatus then have their names dragged through the mud.

Ok get a clue, Venus SUCKED, and no it was NOT because she was female, or a new Turtle, it was because her character was pathetically written, and she was annoying, she was like Justin in Power Rangers Turbo, she took the spotlight from the others.

There is only ONE Fifth Turtle and his name is ZACK

I didn't really have a problem with Venus either,I mean,to me it was just another TMNT show.I was just happy they were back on tv,better than nothing isn't it? :roll:

*grins* Mmm... Zach the Fifth Turtle... I dunno. I would have added a female mutant, sure. More mutants :) Definately keep in April and Space Case, instead of getting a mention in one ruddy episode. No mystical stuff... some of it gets two twinkish for my taste. I dunno, I never liked the Venus character, and she still reminds me of the 13-year-olds I used to RP with in Yahoo who stole every power from the X-Men to give their characters, awed me with their beauty and strength and mega-muscles, then complained when I took too long to pose. Just because they were one-liners and I grew up paragraph RPing :)

If I had to have a female turtle she certainly wouldn't have chichis and she's be taller not shorter than the boys. girls turtles are bigger than the boys.

The guys would be the Henson versions, they're believeable. with all the original voices and made the show darker, the hell with parents bitching about how dark the movie 1 style was, a show like that would be cool.
I'd do some major character development too..
if I did the show it would NOT be on during kid's cartoon times. I'd make it GOOD.

Most people don't like Venus, which may be the concept of a fifth female turtle. But it could also be personality, so my suggestion is to change Venus's personality. Don't make her a suck up, take away all the goofy stupid jokes, make her have some other attribute to the team (I think she took over Leo's role way too much). I don't know, I guess she could feed the chickens in the morning... :roll:

i got it....give venus a new color...sure it was a baby blue/sky blue which ever u wanna call it but it wqas blue....leo is the only blue. give her a diff color and the whole series would of been saved :D :lol: :tgrin: :tsmile: :thumbsup:

If I was in charge of TNM I would skewer it with a fork until it couldn't possibly get into the public. Then I would throw it in a dumpster and forget about it.

Who's Zack? Did the original series introduce a fifth mutant turtle at some stage?

Zach, the "Fifth Turtle" was a human kid who was "offically" made an honoarary Turtle by the TMNT when he helped save their asses, his brother was also made a "Turtle" in the episode where he stole Splinter's sacred Pouch, but managed to get it back.

And both ruled ten times better than Venus

Cut me some slack, as a young boy I wasn't interested in the turtles, my friend were though. The only old show episodes I have seen were Adventures in Turtle Sitting, Leonardo is Missing, and Adventures of RhinoMan.

presonally... I wouldn't have done it. they changed way to much stuff. it just plain old sucked.

What would i have done differently?
First of all, if i had to include venus, i would add her as a friend of the turtles, not their long lost sister. I would also not make her weapon, a pair of magic BALLS. I would give her a graceful weapon, like the fans that kitana uses in Mortal Kombat. I would not have killed off shredder. I think that shredder is a very well developed character, and it would be a waste of good recource to get rid of him. I would have brought back bebop and rocksteady as well. I probably would have based it a little more on the original cartoon.

I'd have made it like I thought it was going to be by this add and all the talk that was floating around at the time....the actual next mutation was such a huge shock for me...it was extremely different then any TMNT thing I'd have ever seen but it was fresh and new at the time and it was the TMNT and to me that was great even if most of the costumes were terrible...I am sure they had an extremely low budget....you wouldn't really know what that's like though unless you've worked on a movie before *sighs*
like many others here have said now and before I'd have had it a bit like the old toon...but doing the entire mutating thing again and in more detail and making this show tie up all the loose ends in the old show...like where bebop and rocksteady are.....I'd really have loved to see them krang, Lord Dregg, Mung, Rat King, & many others brought to life threw the live action show....now I personally feal the show could have done better without Venus demilo I didn't care for her voice much I do think she was a cutie though I wish they would have kept with the hot pink bands they were going to use for her though it looked allot better on her and would have used yellow on Leo I think he looks good in yellow....I don't see why everyone is sooooooooooo afraid of change Laird even knows that change is good but to keep the same basic element there is good.....it's always good to be a risk taker you never know where it might lead you....other things i'd leave out of next mutation would be all the annoying noises for everything, raph saying get it after every joke he said that really annoyed me, splinters costume was just horrid id rather have left him out then see him like that, same goes for the shredder.......I really wish they had a bigger budget for that because things like Silver & Dragon Lord would have looked great if the henson creature shop would have done it....I really did love Dr. Quease no matter what anyone else says to me he was the best new (old he actually reminds me of Doc Feral from the rpg game book http://www.pixilatedwhitewash.com/DOcFeral1.jpg) character in this show and I'd love to see him in the new show actually.....
hmmmmm what else all in all write better episodes.....get better actors for the cast lose the noises bring krang into the show.....and more mutants would have been good but I am sure it would have been extremely hard with the crap budget they had been given...ooooooooo I'd also would have loved to have seen the Terror Bears & Baxter Stockman in this show also almost forgot to add ^_^...

I would've made it a cartoon. :P At least that way it would've lasted for a few more years, heck, I woulda made it a continuation from the old series, & made it the next season. :D

*Bring some cool stuff from the Archie Comics

Drop Venus and make the show animated and it would've turned out better.

Even if Venus were to stay, at least make it animated.

Remove all wacky sound effects.

The show is now exponentially better (though it still has a ways to go).

Why animated? It would probably be an 11th season of the 1987 cartoon.

This is my first time posting in this thread (from what I can remember ^__^) ... so how would I made Next Mutation? I'll let one of The Turtles be the spouse of Venus towards the end. Anyway, it's a different storyline so anything can happen.
