FAQ for the Archie TMNT Comics

Seen something like this in one area of the Dreamwave fourms, and I thought it would be a good idea. A thread that covers all the general questions that come up regarding this comic series. Like a FAQ, as well as something that prevents previous discussions from being lost, and then repeated again later.

Thus, this thread is for all things regarding the Archie TMNT sieries, the mutanimals, and other characters from this (Ninjara, Slash, Cudley).

For questions regarding the series itself, the covers, and summaries, Dan Berger is also in the process of posting info on the Archie series at NinjaTurtles.com.

I love this series! I still mourn its untimely cancellation. Overall, I would consider this to be the most consistant TMNT series in terms of quality and story. It's not the "kiddie" TMNT book! Read it!

Barkworm 02-25-2004 04:29 AM

I own about 20 Archie books and they have some really good storys. I just don't like the inconstant quality of the art and the fact that there is a new mutant/man-animal in almost every book.

MrPliggins 02-25-2004 08:08 AM

I think there is one issue where the artist switches halfway through. It didn't bother me though.. I think Jim Lawson was one of the artists of that issue. He did a little bit different kind of art style on Adventures than he did in the Mirage comics.

Roseangelo 02-25-2004 08:10 AM

Yeah, once Allan takes over the art is fabulous.

MrPliggins 02-25-2004 09:24 PM

Yeah, I liked the Allan issues with the Laird covers. Allan did some pretty cool covers too.. I have one, I think it's from one of the Sarnath issues. I think he also drew the TMNT 3 movie adaption. It'll be cool to see Allan's take on the Turtles today.

Lord Nightwalker 02-26-2004 06:22 AM

Allan is one of the contributors to the new "Tales of" , I think. So there you go! Now you can see his take on the Mirage TMNT. Lawson and Dooney have both worked on the Archie series, and Farley did some work for the Archie TMNT Universe source book. I think he did most of the profiles.
Archies' TMNT Adventures wasn't a bad read, I liked how they paralelled the kiddy toon and grew out of it's shadow to become something more and something better. I thought that was realy cool. Also, I thought it was decent of them to end it all with a three issue mini, similar to how they started...Even if it wasn't part of their regular TMNTAdventures continuity.

Jephael 02-26-2004 09:22 AM

I know someone who said he wished the original cartoon was more like the Archie series, and I do as well!

Gremlin 02-26-2004 09:59 AM

A little off but what the heck

Anyone know where I can get that Source book?

Lord Nightwalker 02-26-2004 01:56 PM

Archie's "The Mutant Universe Source book?" It was actually three issues, and I think you can get them from Mirage's back issue catalog in the Adventures section. I think they have it. But If I'm wrong, my apologies..try Amazon or E bay .

Also, Ryan Brown, an artist from the original "Tales" series was a LONG time contributor in the Archie series. That's probably why the archie series was like the Old-toon done Mirage-style!

Eric Talbot also helped out with some covers. There is one of Candy at the Mutanimals' graves i think? Well anyway, it is inked by Talbot. It seems like most of the Mirage guys have gotten their hands in the Adventures comic at some point in time.

Also, I have always wondered this. Did Laird do the cover for TMNTA #9? (the first appearance of the Chameleon). Well the cover is a homage to Mirage's Raphael #1 cover, and if I remember correctly, I think it had Laird's signature on it. If it was by him, its one of the only times I saw him draw the Turtles "cartoony".

Dane E5R 02-26-2004 05:18 PM

How and why did the mutanimals die?

MrPliggins 02-27-2004 06:39 PM

Thanks, Putrescent.. I think my favorite Laird covers were the ones he did with Eastman. But of his later ones, I like the one with Tattoo strangling Mike, hahh.
Elite5Raph, the Mutanimals died, but I don't exactly remember how. I think another team scouted them out and killed them on an island with lots of guns. This was done in back-up stories of TMNT Adventures, after the Mutanimals series was cancelled.
I think this info is true, but if I'm wrong, anyone feel free to correct me.

Machias Banshee 02-27-2004 07:15 PM

Nope, youre correct, MrP..

this happened while april, Splinter, Ninjara and the Turtles were dealing with the Animus war in Jerusalem. This was also when Michelangelo got blinded by the molotov cocktail...

MTN889 02-27-2004 08:00 PM

Did he was able to see again?

Jester 03-01-2004 09:50 AM

Allen's art can be found in the weekly strips updated on the TMNT official page.. www.ninjaturtles.com... they're more likr the old toon though...kinda wacky

He was only temporarily blinded, but it did make him vulnerable when their plane crashed in the ocean and he got picked up by the coast guard.

Nope, that's Dan Berger's art. He was pretty much solely responsible for the comic strip.

Gokhan 03-02-2004 07:40 PM

who has issue 58 wit them as kids.

CrippledNitemare 03-20-2004 07:31 PM

So this is an FAQ... shoot me some questions and I'll do my best to answer them... I have EVERY SINGLE ISSUE (including side story, spin off, special, etc, and yes I do like to brag about it) of the Archie-produced Turtles. Ask a question, and if I don't know, I can find out for you.

Spitfire 03-21-2004 03:44 PM

Need a comic can someone help

I need a copy of I the Archie series issue # 44 The Futre shark saga part 3
I used to own it but it got thrown away somehow. Now that I have found parts 1 and 2 I want 3! Because I forgot the ending. Can someone tell me a site I can find it on or sell it to me?

The Big Bad 03-28-2004 04:40 PM

Nitemare, can you tell me the creative team for the first April series? I'd really appreciate it.

Nope, that's Dan Berger's art. He was pretty much solely responsible for the comic strip.

Except for the first year of the strip, when the creative team was Dean Clarrain, Jim Lawson (replacing Ryan Brown after the first month), Dan Berger and Mary Kelleher.

Mobius One 04-02-2004 01:32 PM

Was the one you are talking about the ones where they choose their colors as kids? Cause I have two of them (#71 and 72) where they are kids and they get their weapons.

Terrablade 05-05-2004 11:47 PM

When was the Shredder's last appearance, and what was Ninjara's first?

Jephael 05-14-2004 07:21 AM

Shredder's last appearance was in the Future Shark Trilogy (issues 42-44) and Ninjara's first appearance was in issue #28 when the TMNT went with Splinter and April to Japan to rescue a friend.

it's a shame that the next shredder story line never came about "the Forever War"
I would love to see the art and read the stories for it I wish I knew how to contact the artist about it. maby we could some how help get the story published to me the archie series never ended because of it.

darthsmozers 06-04-2004 10:22 AM

The artist (Chris Allan) has said no story was ever fleshed out. That cover we all have seen of Shredder and Don was done in preparation, but the storyline didn't really exist.

The issue where the turtles get their colors was an issue seperate from 'how they got their weapons', right? I didn't much care for those 'young turtle' stories.

I'm currently rereading the cyber turtles storyline and yknow, these books are still awesome!

Turkituck 06-05-2004 04:20 AM

the "How they got their colors" issue was kindof part of another comic. I'm not sure, but i think it was part of a special. I know there was more than one story in that book.

How did Leatherhead die? (he got killed before the rest of the mutanimals)

Also: I thought the killing off of the Mutanimals all at once without any exposition was extremely stupid

darthsmozers 07-23-2004 07:29 PM

no, he died with the mutanimals i believe.

Likewise.

darthsmozers 07-23-2004 07:45 PM

and there was exposition. they had an attempted killing in the months prior, in the backup stories.
