Last few years...

Hi!
Can anybody tell me what happened with the Turtles in the last 10 years? The last time I watched it was when I was six. And I really would like to know what has happened... Thanks!

ZariusTwo 09-24-2004 04:56 PM

www.tvtome.com

...With as many episode guides avalible on the Internet, you'd THINK some people would stop living under a rock

Mandi-chan 09-24-2004 05:17 PM

Tsk, tsk, ZariusTwo don't be mean! I know how JJ feels, it's a lot easier to ask fans of the series who had watched it to summarize what happened rather than read tvtome guides that are really long.

JJ, if I had watched the entire thing of the old toon I would summarize it for you, but I didn't. I'm like you, the last time I had watched the old toon when it was on tv was when I was that age. :)

I was in the same boat. Last time I watched the show was when I was very young. Now I've collected every episode of the old series and am making my way through it, and am caught up on the new series. I also went and score over 200 TMNT comic books, but I'm still missing about half the Adventures series.

What would you specifically like to know?

JJ 01-02-2005 09:52 AM

Man, you must have a lot of time.

Ok. I would like to know if they created new enemies, if yes who is it, and what happened to the Turtles and why did they do the Turtle series look "new".

Thanx,

JJ

the new series is completely seperate from the old. new look, correct characterisations, fantastic look all over. the turtles are normal...i mean, living hiding underground unlike the old goofy series where they're out i the open and nobody cares.
many of the bad guys are out of the original comic books. some are new. Most of the stories are also right out of the comics with a little tweeking and adjustments...can't have Raph cussing all the time in the toon hahah

"DAMN!"

hehehe

ZariusTwo 01-02-2005 05:17 PM

Err.. in the original seires, they were treated like wanted fugitives, in the media and in the public eye, for several seasons, they only wore disguises when they had to travel around during the day, and only stalked the city as themselves either at night or when they had no choice but to act in the day.

Jester 01-02-2005 06:01 PM

Zarius, Laird himself complained that in the old toon:
1. The TMNT walked out in the open far too much and
2. Were fluffy, almost inflateable, like masey's parade balloons.
What Buslady said was her "opinion." I love the old show, but it was like the 1970's Batman show, it camped the TMNT, made them more comical than their comic book counterparts. Heck, even the Archie TMNT had a harder edge than the middle year (seasons 3-6) TMNT episodes.

The new TMNT cartoon is a kinda more "dark". The turtles must move and act in the darkness. Thats like the main difference between them, but the drawings of the second cartoon have (by far) more work

Sometimes Laird thinks about the show in the negative aspects, but he's gone on record not only to pay homage to the original cartoon (Secret Origins) but he seems to have an appreciation for Krang, Rocksteady, and Bebop, saying that they were "good for the show, but not for the comic", I can respect that, but he hhas not went out and spat on the legacy of the original cartoon like a lot of other biased tools are doing.

I love the original cartoon as well, and I know it had it's flaws, but the humour in the original cartoon is VASTLY superior to the new cartoon, all you see that in THAT are crappy Matrix and Star Wars references

Season 3 I think we ALL know, was the finest season of the show's earlier seasons, it had tight continunity and a direction

Yes, i know Laird isn't totally against the old toon, in fact in my post i mentioned the 2 things he does complain about....the TMNT out in the open too much and the fluffyness factor.

I don't remember season 3 all that well, it's been years since i watched it, so maybe 4-6 are the overly campy seasons, then it got edgeier but weird in 7-10 with the red sky and dregg. I respect the old series, i see it as a totally diffrent show from the new one, and just as great, when weighed on it's own merits. The old toon made the TMNT accesible to kids with humor over action, kids who now can sit and watch the new toon, and appriciate the action over humor there in. 2 toons, 2 diffrent styles, both great hours of entertainment. :D

Oh yeah, Seasons 4-6 had a beggining, but no end, I count them as one huge season alongside Season Seven since David Wise had no story direction for the show at that point, and the show was so popular, it did'nt matter if they had nothing better to do.

Thanks, that's mostly what a lot of people want, for both shows to be respected

I agree with Zarius about the old toon's humour. It was waaaaay funnier than the new one's IMO.

Just to let folks know, the discussion about Germany has been split and moved to the GD: Everything Else under the title Where do you live? Please feel free to continue that conversation in the new thread. Thanks! :)
