Scenes/Ideas that didn't make it?

Hi. Just wondering if there's some stuff that was "intended, but didn't make it"

In "Enter the Shredder", during the fight with all those robots, there's a scene with the Roadkill Rodneys coming out of the pit "We Must Stop Them!" Yet there isn't any rematch with them.

Also, in "Return of the Technodrome", there's some suggestion that Irma is infatuated with the Turtles. Maybe that was what I'll call "Uncertainty Liberty", that when you're not sure if you'll be continuing a show (maybe they thought it might be the last episode when they made it) you sometimes go to some extremes.

Thirdly, in "20,000 Leaks Beneath the Sea", when the tidal wave rushes through the sewers, you see Splinter go down the waterfall, and he says "Farewell, Turtles"....but after the ad break, you see him about to go over, but he's cought and brought up the manhole. Was it originally going to be a "we thought you died" episode, but they determined that would be too "heavy"?

A fourth example....that de facto two-parter with the portal generator, that has "Hokum Hare" in it. I'm almost wondering if they originally intended Usagi Yojimbo to return, but, maybe they couldn't get the rights again, so they created "Hokum" to "fill in the gaps", so to speak.

So, any comments?

And any other places that suggest scenes or ideas that didn't make it?

Well, I can only think of one. In the James Avery interview at the official site, Mr. Avery said some things got left on the cutting room floor. He only gave a "Shredder in Love" episode example, not any others, but he made it sound like the staff had thought up more a few ideas that either didn't make it to script or didn't make it to animation, for whatever reason.

Shredder in Love...I still wonder what the hell kind of madness would have taken place in such an episode. And then I get sad that it was never made. :(

I think Hokem hare was always intended. They visited the fairy tale dimension...not sure what fairy tale he was from though... I'm sure they could have gotten the rights to Usagi again if they wanted to since Eastman and Laird are good friends with Stan Sakai. In my opinion, though, Usagi doesn't fit the stories of "turtles and the hare" and "once upon a time machine".

I always wondered about that Splinter scene too, it's very weird because two different things happen. Usually shows don't contradict themselves like that. You would think the editor would have cut it differently or something.

And "return of the technodrome" does seem like it could serve as a final episode. It would have actually been a very good series finale (way better than the real series finale). I think it was uncertain of the future of the series, which is why they had the Technodrome fall into the lava at the end. I remember wondering, in season 3, how they got the technodrome out of the lava?

Maybe the thick hull could withstand most of the lava's destructive properties until Shredder and Krang organized themselves enough to pull it out.

 Cartoon science is fun. :)

You know a past love of Shedders would have been great if they had handled it properly. It could have served to show us a flash back episode of what led up to the events of Shedder framing Yoshi...and why? Maybe this would have been a way to bring in that gal the Shedder's brother was in love with and got killed by Yoshi for in the Mirage comics. They could very easily have made Shedder in love with her instead of his brother and have a sort of love triangle between Yoshi and Saki.

It would explain why Shedder tried so hard to destroy Spinter the way he did. As it is, even as a kid I never understood just why exactly Shedder hated Yoshi/Splinter so much. The fact that Shedder was ambitious and an asshole doesn't really justify the passion of the hatred he felt toward him. Maybe Shedder hated Yoshi they both loved the same girl...hmm, how mysterious...

Speaking of..... I was remember a part where Baxter had a electrca looking monster and sent him after the Turtles. He comments to the monster to make him turtle soup and licked his lips. The turtle look at him disgusted and fight the monster

Was this NOT on the DVD?

Sage Ninja 01-05-2006 02:37 AM

I don't know what you are talking about Turtle Donve :-?

That series did have a real "series finale" feel to it, it was quite well done, I made you wonder if the villans survived or not. As to the whole Irma thing I always got the impressions that she had more of an infatuation with Donatello than with any of the other turtles. That infatuation was always sublely played up on certain levels. And what is weird Donatello kind of responded to that unconsciencely at times:o

One thing that always made me wonder if they had more plans that never got going was the introduction of the Rat King and his abilty to control Splinter. It seemed like they where really going some where with that and then it never occured again.

And the introduction of Mona Lisa that never went any where. Was there some possiable direction the writters where playing with to give the boys (or at least Raphael) possiable love intersts that they could actually get involved with. And the whole Mondo Geko living in the sewers and seemed like the writters where trying to give Michaelangelo a best friend and buddy that always seemed like he always wanted seemed to Dwindle off.

And i can't even remember what Roch=kSteady and Bebops fate where?

Turtle dove, you are talking about "curse of the evil eye" which is on volume 2, I think. This is the part where Baxter has the helmet and makes the Taj Mahal, along with the electricity monster and the blob monster, which by the way is no match for Shredder.

As far as b & r, it was never explained if I remember right. They are there in season 8's finale. Then in season 10 when S and K return, B and R aren't even mentioned.

This show always set up stuff that they never returned to, and they always left it open by having leo say "i have a feeling we haven't seen the last of him/her".

After about six seasons, the others should have said, "No s***, Leo."

You know what I think might have happened... to fit in with the old toon humour and lightheartedness, Shredder probably would've been hit with some wierd ray love potion of sorts that made him fall for someone like Irma or something. LOL. It would probably be similar to the episode of The Real Ghostbusters where Janine wishes Egon was crazy about her and he would stare at her all the time and say "You're beautiful when you're angry" when she was angry etc. It was funny, probably one of my favourite episodes.

Of course I could be wrong... but I just can't see Shredder being in love for real or you'd think they would've continued with it in later episodes. So it would have to be a quick, one time thing. Oh god that sounds BAD LMFAO-- or good, depending how you look at it...

I'll uh. Shut up now. Yeah.

Love potion! Ha! Didn't think of that...although I have considered writing a comical Shredder/Irma story...hey, she's desperate enough shack up with ANYBOBY.

Shreddette 01-05-2006 05:17 PM

She'd totally shack up with him if he wanted.

Remember the Four Muskaturtles? She thought he wanted to marry her just cause she was hostage or something. He laughed in her face. LOL.

THAT'S my boy.

SurfGuru133 01-05-2006 06:06 PM

How bout this shredder gets cancer but uses his own special brand of mutagen to cure himself If u kno wud I mean

remix17 01-05-2006 06:07 PM

Poor Irma. XD Hope THAT ep comes out on DVD soon! :bounces happily:

Shreddette 01-05-2006 06:13 PM

I hope you're not serious, Surf. That's a terrible idea. Cancer isn't something people write about in cartoons, especially in such a manner when it's not even curable, and that would be trying to make cancer funny or lighthearted, which it ISN'T.

Ha, yeah poor Irma. What a BURN.
I'm so glad that wasn't me. :rolling:

remix17 01-05-2006 07:45 PM

Good. :) I remember a few years back when I learned that another favorite villain (a comic one) of mine got cancer...then shot himself. :(

Tenth graders flunking Biology should not be plagued by this sort of thing. :( :)

:o Dude! If Shredder laughed in my face cause I had thought he wanted to marry him I'd kick him in the "You know what", get myself free and beat the daylights out of him.

- I can see it now-

Me: So you like me?

Shredder: HAHAHA  Me and you? HAHAHA

ME: You little...urghh *punch*

The Turtles come to save me and see me beating the BLEH out of Shredder. Krang is watching on the intercom and laughing at Shredder

Krang: YOu should bllllll no better then to laugh at a girrrrrrrrl...

MrPliggins 01-06-2006 05:48 AM

Falling in love with irma has already been done in the show.. I bet the Shredder would fall for April or something (of course that's been done too)...or maybe someone odd like the neutrino girl. There aren't a whole lot of females in this series to pick from. I can see this episode being sort of like cowabunga shredhead with him acting totally out of character and it would be hilarious.
