I thought that one was funny, they messed up the turtle voices a lot.
I wonder how that can happen... they must record the voices before making the cartoon.

That's exactly how they do it. It's easier to animate so the characters sync up with the voices than to try and get the actors to sync with the characters. It also allows for more flexibility in the script... what if you don't realize a line sounds stupid until the voice actor says it? Reanimating the scene would take way too long.

I think I remember one of the Red Sky epsiodes had a huge goof... Leo was shown wearing red, and not only was the shot full-body, but the mistake carried on to the next shot! *ouch*

you know I think it would have been better if they had animated the cartoon and then had the actors sitting in front of a screen of it as it played infront of them, and just tried to sync their voices to the mouth movements, as they acted. This is how it is done over in Japan and they do just fine. And actually if the writters wanted to change the dialogue around it wouldn't be that big of a deal to change, they wouldn't have needed to reanimate the whole scene.

If they had done the recordings while having the animation played out before them on a screen, I think it would have improved the amount of mistakes in the cartoon when when character would be talking as another character and then it would flip back to the actual character that was orginally supposed to be talking. A perfect example of this was in the first episode when Donatello jumps in front of April using Raphael's voice, and then finishes off the scene using Donatello's voice. Had they recorded this while watching the animation as it happened they would have known what turtle was suppossed to be talking at what time.

Makes me wonder just how much information the poor voice actors where given as what was going on in a particular scene when they where given the script. Voice acting must have been really difficult to do back in the 80's, it makes me apprciate the actors talent to be able to pull off sounding as geniuan and good as they did back in the old toon. Because you have to admit, that despite all the animation errors the voice actors did a fine job acting out their characters.

The episode with those kids was "It Came From Beneath The Sewers". It was on the new Volume 2 DVD.

i wonder if they could fix the wrong voice problem on the newer release of the DVDs. I think that it would be good, it could like an alternate adiuo opption or something.

Oh... that explains why even in Japanese, the lipsync in anime doesn't match very well.

Animated features (a la Disney, Dreamworks, Pixar, etc) use the "record voices first" method. What it does is allow the animation to better match the vocal performance...lipsync and visual acting. Unfortunately for an older, lower budget cartoon such as this, the two halves obviously didn't stay in touch enough. Maybe it was the scriptwriters not following the storyboards, things not getting double-checked enough... And when mistakes were made, they didn't have the resources to fix it. That Raphael/Donatello voice switch could have been done by animating Raph going to block April's way and having Don chime in from elsewhere (or walk up)... but they had to use what they had.

Errors such as Leo (swords and all) wearing red is entirely the fault of the colorists. Silly people.

I wonder why they change the colours of the bandanas and other things, you can have 2 Raph's or 3 Leo's on screen at once!

Actually in anime the V.A. are instructed to concentrate on the emotion in their voices and the dilvery of their lines more so than trying to keep insync with mouth movement. I mean they still try to keep with the mouth movements, but its just not as important as saying your lines with convinceing emotion and inflection in your voice. I think thats why japanese voice actors sound so good and passionate.

But anyway, Masked Ninja that is a good theory on why things seemed out of whack. And thinking like that would it have been so expensive to at least fix the cloured bandanna mistakes, you think? So it didn't look like there was three leonardo's. I've seen people on this board color the turtes bandannas
