Leatherhead

Is he an alligator or a crocodile?

triplexxx 03-28-2007 02:33 PM

Crocodile.

Ballerninja 03-28-2007 03:36 PM

He's only a croc in the 2k3 series, I think. He was an alligator in the original series, and in mirage comics.

raphaelprime 03-28-2007 10:19 PM

I think he's an Alligator in every adaptation. Only thing about the 2k3 series is that the episode was called 'What a croc' cause i dont think 'what a gator' would have sounded as good, so they just called him a croc. But most(if not all) of the drawings and animations i've seen of him, he's been drawn as an alligator cause gators have wider snouts and slightly shorter, whereas crocs are long and slim.

Since we all know wiki is 100% credible. :roll: you could check it out.

according to wiki

Mirage = Alligator
Image = Croc
87 OT = Alligator
Archie comics = started out as a human
2k3 = Croc

Someone, oh someon, who's an expert on all things reptillian please tell us the difference between Croc and gator.

All I know is in spanish, they only have one word, "Cocodrillo"

Much less confusing. UT!

I love Leatherhead. Doesn't matter to me whether or not he's a croc or not. There aren't enough shows on him...

odupianist 04-05-2007 06:42 AM

I was quite surprised he was not in the final battle against the tengu Shredder.

ninjitsu_magic_47 04-05-2007 09:13 AM

Yeah, that sorta bugged me. He lives in New York too, he would have helped somehow. :evil:

Sanjuro 04-05-2007 12:21 PM

Crocodile. The difference between the two are very small. Main noticable difference is Crocodiles front teeth show when their mouth is closed.

Lederhed,aligator močvara Floride.

ninjitsu_magic_47 04-05-2007 05:48 PM

Maybe he's a croc/gator cross? :D :lol: :P

Ava Collier 04-05-2007 06:19 PM

Now I remember! I was searching for the answer to this question myself, that's how I found these forums. I do think it would depend on his origins. I really think the 2k3 version is a crocodile, but it would make more sense in the 80's version if he was an alligator...since they have those in Florida. ^_^

I always hated Leatherheads name... its like, real dumb. Anyone else share this thought?

I remember in Image Leo refering to LH as a gator. I'll have to check.

Keep in mind that's just wiki. And even if Leo did call him a gator, that really doesn't make him one.

odupianist 04-06-2007 06:58 AM

I think Leo also referred to him as a gator in the 2k3 series too, in the episode "Hunted"

I'm sure that Leatherhead is primarily an alligator in all of his carnations. I used to think in the 2k3 incarnation he is a saltwater crocodile due to his personality. He, like other crocs, was pretty calm, but when angered, extremely deadly and vicious. Then I decided to do a little research into crocs and alligators and saw that he is, indeed, an alligator in the 2k3 incarnation. Here's a picture compairing a crocodile and alligator snout from a bird's eye view (Sorry, the picture will only show up as a link for some reason).

Note how the alligator has a wider snout. Salt water crocodiles have a similar build, but it curves in like the crocodile snout in the picture above. Then you look at some of the screen grabs from the show and you can really tell that they are similar (I'll just post a link to the grabs on ninjaturtles.com. I'm too tired to make images appear out of nowhere right now...)

According to wikipedia the term crocodile can be used to refer to any member of the crocodile family, given this I’d say it's more likely that he's an alligator who is sometimes called a crocodile.
