Was there anything from the 87 toon Laird liked?

I know he didn't like most of it but was there anything he did like?

FlogginMcMurryZombiePizza 08-29-2013 03:44 PM

Let me ask Siri...

Xav 08-29-2013 03:46 PM

I know he liked the first season. There was someone on here claiming he liked, fly Baxter, the Technodrome, and Mutagen Man.

Jester 08-29-2013 03:47 PM

The $$$. :D

miru 08-29-2013 04:05 PM

The fact it made his babies famous to begin with

Jester 08-29-2013 04:09 PM

He did at times like the humor, I think he hated the direction.

FlogginMcMurryZombiePizza 08-29-2013 07:27 PM

Remind me again which one wanted the show/comics/ to go in what direction?

MikeandRaph87 08-29-2013 07:46 PM

I still can't believe he hated the '87 cartoon and phenom it spurred never adapting anything in the comics. Asking him in person he told me he liked the Technodrome, Baxter Stockman as a fly, and the sculpts of the original set of 10 figures from Playmates. Not much else aside from the different mask colors to further identify the turtles from one another outside the black and white comics and he enjoyed the voice cast. I do not think anything else from the Ninja Turtles masterpiece. Its a shame he feels like this aside from the fact Emily loves it which he appreciates.

Show, maybe wish it had its light hearted moments but was still overall serious, so yeah like previously said 1st season.

He like anything that either he or Eastmen came up for the OT series. Thats how Bebop and Rocksteady were created.

Jester 08-29-2013 08:57 PM

Must have had a falling out, because I remember hearing he loathed those two.

It was the execution of the characters not the characters themselves. The fact potential powerhouses with cool designs demoted to idiotic comic relief to fit the code of tv of the time and keep the series running for awhile. Tom Waltz and company I believe see it that way nd want to erase the concept that became stuck with them. Peter could not bring himself to revamp them. Its quite possible the direction the characters took Bebop and Rocksteady to be what they are remembered for took hold specifically to Peter and dissuaded him from incorporating other media characters into the black and white comics. A side effect that causes my limited interest.

I remember he stated that on the comments section when he did a the kast q & a on his blog. It seems he's said similar things elsewhere.

aww....the co-creator of TMNT didn't like the 80's turtles???

I didn't know....does he like any of the other versions?
2003? 2012?

It's pretty common knowledge though I think it gets way exaggerated. He's said more than once that he does not hate or even dislike it nor does he deny it was hugely successful as mentioned on here there were aspects of it he liked and I do think he had some indirect influence on the show. Of course the way it developed wasn't really his thing.

He was quite involved in the 4Kids show and it's safe to say he likes it. I don't think he's watched the Nickleodeon show but someone sent him some short youtube clips and he gave a positive opinion on what he saw.

LeotheLateBloomer 08-30-2013 02:46 AM

He never said he hated the 87 toon, he probably didn't have that much of an attachment to it. I did read that the different colored headbands didn't really bother him. At least not nearly as much as the initialed belt buckles and multicolored wrist, elbow, and knee pads.

Do you have a link to his reaction to the Nick cartoon?

marcelangelo 08-30-2013 08:26 AM

galactus is hitting the nail on its head here....
leothelatebloomer:...you may not know that it was laird who came up with the idea of different colored bandanas when confronted of the 'problem' of the toy company(they were of the oppinion that it would be hard to sell four identical looking figures(turtles with all red bandanas) to parents)..and he even came up with the colors himself...

I agree very much with senior galactus here, it is generally exaggerated when people talk about peter lairds feelings for the ot...
I mean anybody who would spend a minute imagining his situation could easily see how stupid this notion is that laird simplay hated everything;)...to see your creation in SUCH a SHORT time period wander from indie comic to hollywood and entertain so many AROUND THE GLOBE is just absurd if you think about it...theres the american dream for ya...

Peter's daughter.

I would think he would like Krang being based off the Utroms by having a nice twist; Dimension X would have its own characters instead of the Triceraton Federation/Fugitoid.

I'm curious if Peter likes Red Sky.
