Raph influenced by Wolverine?
Again another thought, we know that the guys origin is tied somewhat to Dare Devil when originaly crafed, and I got me to wondering if any other marvel property might have influnced the creatuve prossece of the guys, and the more I looked the more Raph seemed to have wolverine influnces through out his person. I know most of what I am about to say is a stretch, and I may be way off, but it is something to think about (I've never heard anything to the contary so if thiskhas been stated in the past I've I've mearly fogten or never saw it I appoligise)
Both are regarded as hot heads and berzerkers to many extents. Wolverine is best known for his 3 claws on each hand, some what similar in desighn to Raphs sais. Images of raph have even had him hold them between his fingers in a style reminesint of wolverine (from what I understand few people do this in real life) Both are short by human standards. Both have a tendancy to get the girl Both have a tendancey to show compasion to younger people (wolvey- Jubilee and Kitty, Raph Yoshi [streactching it I know]) I know there are more but thats all I can come up with off the top of my had at the momnets but there is at least one point of counter influnce Arond the time of the Onslaught saga, when wolverine was feral, his then trade mark mask was replaced with a mask very similar to the one Next Mutation Leo wore. The mask it self seemed to shift from primary blue, to the ocasiosnnal red version. And while I can't pull the dates of these events from my head as I write this, its possible this was a sighn of tribute to Raph. Again I dought any of this is meaning full, possibly just coensidence, and an over active imagination, but it does make you wonder if raph hasn't been, perhaps unconciously, influenced by wolverine over the years |
I hadn't thought much of it, but I can see some obvious similarities. From what I understand, some aspects of Raph were also influenced by other great Marvel characters such as Spider-Man.
|
Well there are some similarities, Wolverine could have had an influence when they were planning the characters.
|
I bet it could be true.

I just remembered a few more, again rember these are stretches
Both are generaly loners Both have been difficult to train by there pirmary leaders stand points (splinter/Xaviar) Both are martial artists (big duh I know) Both seem to be drawn to motor cycles more than most other types of personal transport Both harrase and care for their team leaders (leo/cyclops), both who would come to be well known in blue |
ya and the weapons are similar to, its kinda like wolverine has some built in sais.

It strikes me as less of a coincidence, and more like they were sticking to a sort of stereotype. The bad boy, the dark one, the rebel.
Though that whole claws/sais thing has me thinkin'. |

and don is kinda like beast, minus the Arnold muscles.

Shellfox
I basically agree that the two are similar, but as you said, most of those are stretches. (FYI: don't take offense to anything I am about to say, just my own observations, LOL) Especially anything relating outside the Mirage TMNT, since creators E&L did not have a personal, active (creative) role in all that stuff. Overall, I agree, and have actually thought about it before. The personality and weapons are the two main points, I'd more or less stop there. :) Oh yeah, and when did Raph ever "get the girl" ? |
He went out with that fox creature Ninjara in the Archie series.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those 2. So I guess that covers each universe except for the movies.
|
I can't remember where I read it, but in an interview with Judith Hoag she said that her character "fell in love with Raphael in a sense." I know that's not much, but he was definitely her favorite in the movie.

Well Eastman and Laird do claim to have a Marvel influence so it IS possible.
But, I say Raph and Wolverine are just classic "Hothead" characters like Priss from Bubblegum Crisis or Gundam Wing's Wufei! |
Raph's "berserker rage" was a parody of Wolverine, who in turn was modeled after Donald Duck. :D
