English subtitles for Our Friend Power 5 on DVD?

I'm thinking of trying to crowdfund a project to subtitle the Korean TMNT knockoff "Our Friend Power 5" in English, and have DVDs made and distributed. What type of interest would there be for something like this?

I'm immensely interested but do you even have a copy of the original? I can't find one for the life of me. been looking for years.

Same, bro.
What about an English dub?

Powder 02-13-2016 06:29 PM

You didn't even know it existed until I brought it up a few months ago. :tlol:

You're right.....I have nothing whitty to say back to that!

I don't own the original VHS. I'd certainly be interested in buying one for my collection if I were ever able to find one, but for now I have a rip of it generously provided from someone in Korea who ripped it from a bootleg DVD. The video quality is watchable, I can't imagine it's significantly worse than the VHS itself would be. The most annoying thing about it is a buzzing sound throughout it, which can probably be eliminated. I think an audio dub would be way too expensive to produce. I'm trying to find out what a translator/subtitling service would charge for something like this.

Powder 02-13-2016 06:41 PM

I'm sure that'd do the trick. I don't know much about video editing software but if one has an equalizer for the audio track, the buzzing could likely be lessened somewhat. If not, perhaps it could be exported as a separate file & mixed down in Protools or Fruityloops a little bit. No idea about subbing though, I only know of a few outfits that do Japanese, not Korean.

Duke Nukem 02-13-2016 06:50 PM

Yeah, that's the biggest hurdle and likely the most expensive part of the whole process. I know people who've gotten rid of tape hiss from audio cassette rips, so I'm sure they can also eliminate the buzzing from the video.

I want to voice act for a dubbing company. Maybe my dubbing company will dub this.

Powder 02-13-2016 07:05 PM

No disrespect, but dubbing this is a terrible idea. Much like kung-fu films & other Asian b-movie material, part of the charm is the wacky original audio. Trying to turn something this absurd into a more understandable and/or serious feature would take some of the fun out of it. :trazz:

I wanna the dub horrible, crappy quality-wise and only available in Canada so it becomes rare! MDC, Mew Dubbing Corporation!

This would be a lot more likely to get subtitles made for it if anyone could find the thing, first.

Yeah, that's the guy who hooked me up with the movie and shared it on youtube. He doesn't have any leads to finding VHS or even other bootleg DVDs. I've been fairly busy lately any haven't put any effort into this idea lately, still haven't heard of any translators who do this type of work. It's likely that there wouldn't be enough people interested in it to realistically fund it, but a ballpark estimate of the translation cost would help confirm that.

thundermaster612 06-25-2016 07:12 AM

When I first found the movie me and my friend watched it, my initial reaction was "WHAT THE ****?!" it still is. But I'm curious about the advertisement and merchandising for it. Did they have any merch? or is it just the poster. What about a movie trailer? I haven't seen one at all.
