eBay Bidders Beware (TMNT #1)

There is a seller with 0 feedback selling four copies of TMNT #1, what he claims to be first prints. Possible? I guess. Likely? Not really. He's using the same picture for all four auctions and it's not even a very good picture. I've emailed him asking for a more detailed discription of it, but haven't recieved a reply yet. Naturally, the prices on each one are going rather high. What's additionally odd is that the same person has the high bid in all four auctions.

Auction #1
Auction #2
Auction #3
Auction #4

Just letting you guys know so nobody gets burned.

Man, thats sounds like such a scam....i feel bad if anyone actually buys into it...thanks for the lookout!

Is issue one really worth that much? The one at my comic shop is only 25 bucks....I guess I should pick it up....

Anarchistguy 11-12-2003 06:24 PM

Must be a forgery if it sells that cheap

coryroo24 11-12-2003 06:32 PM

its hard to say if they are fake or not, I wouldn't take a chance the person can't even spell "singed by eastman and laird" Whats up with that

cqb101 11-12-2003 06:38 PM

And the same buyer has bid on all of them.....Driving the price up? Looks like it....somebody should report this to ebay, or atleast notify some of the other bidders.....

TMNTGal 11-12-2003 08:11 PM

Definitly looks like a scam. I'd never buy anything from someone with 0 feedback.

azure turtle 11-12-2003 09:11 PM

Yep... Very fishy. I bet they're counterfeit copies of number one.

Kid Icarus 11-12-2003 09:32 PM

they look counterfeit... =\.

Shadow 11-12-2003 09:58 PM

someone should e-mail him and ask what the mesurements of the book are...the origional is larger than most comics

Cascadia 11-12-2003 10:24 PM

I think it is scam.....the first printing is very rare but I doubt that one person has 4 copies of it.

also, one of the person's auctions is for the second issue, however, the auction has a picture of issue #1, which everyone is questioning about. See for yourself.

Whcih reminde ne, how common are the counterfeits anyway? :)

xZAOx 11-13-2003 10:17 AM

i dont like it. no way id pay first. id email him (if i were intersted in it, which im not) and ask if hed send first to someone with good feedback due to amount of money involved. if he says no, and you have a nice number of good feedbacks with very little if any negs, then i wouldnt trust him at all.

Actually, they're not very common. I've never seen one myself. It's too bad these look like a scam, 'cause I might be willing to pay up to $10 for one.

Note all the empty black space! This is definately fake!

Karpo_007 11-13-2003 03:29 PM

Well the first books were printed Larger than regular comic books. I have never seen those so I'm not sure if the empty space is supposed to be there.

OA 11-13-2003 05:53 PM

with this kinda money involved, if you even QUESTION the item i wouldn;t go through with it...esp on ebay when the very next day you can find a better price...

jeff the cheff 11-13-2003 07:05 PM

Good lord that is a lot of money, how much are they really worth anyway? I bought mine for $20 but it was third printing

Right and the extra space there is on legit copies. The most common printing of #1 would seem to be the third printing, which on the surface looks nearly identicle to a first printing. It was also from the third printing that the counterfeits were made. My guess is that it's one of those two, a third printing or a counterfeit.
