Nobody. Just fanboy well-wishing.

Though, for the record, I absolutely love Thrawn. He was a hell of a character and a very different kind of SW threat.

They're re-starting the EU, but it's not like the old stuff is off-limits, even Disney themselves have acknowledged the EU "universe". So I'm sure we'll be seeing many old favorite characters return and storylines re-told, that's what I meant by "rewriting the Thrawn trilogy". So yeah it's a nice way to "clean up" the EU but many stories or characters will just be a shadow of their former selves.

I just read the synopsis for the first four books in the new EU and they're very inoffensive, and could just as easily take place in the old EU. And from reading them you can tell that this new EU will be as big of a mess as the old one, I guess SWs will have more in common with Marvel/DC soon enough with constant clean ups in continuity.

If there is even any "favorite" EU characters returning, I doubt they'd even share the same names... just similar characteristics.

I mean, will it turn out that Luke has/had a wife with a few shades of Mara Jade in her, but named Clara Bushwhacker? Sure. Might there be a cunning new Grand Admiral or Grand Moff who has outwitted the New Republic for years with his love of art and a few other traits of Thrawn? Sure. But that's about all I'd realistically expect.

You underestimate the power of fan outcry, being into comics you should know this better than anyone, hell we can even use the new TMNT Nick show as an example.

The EU being retconned is the same thing DC and Marvel do with their comic universes every so often. It's rendered alternate canon outside of the mainstream stuff.

Hopefully these casting rumors will end this weekend as many think Lucasfilm will announce something on Star Wars day. This is the latest from Deadline:

Quote:
Rumor Mill Wild As ‘Star Wars’ Cast Revelation Gets Close
BY MIKE FLEMING JR | Monday April 28, 2014 @ 5:37pm PDT

Looks like JJ Abrams, who is so secretive he probably still won’t admit to having directed the first two Star Trek movies, is finally going to have to divulge his cast for the revamp of Star Wars. The force is with him, in that he’s got a big table read tomorrow with the cast in London, and so he’s finally going to be forced to fess up shortly. There have been more rumors on this one than any film in recent memory, and here’s the latest.

I’m hearing that Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac is in line for a major role, as is Adam Driver and Attack the Block’s John Boyega, both of whom have been rumored. There is also a young girl, and that might be Maisie Richardson-Sellers, an Oxford-trained actress whose casting has been rumored in recent weeks. The new cast members will join returning Star Wars alums Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. The big surprise, I’m told, is that Ford has a gigantic role in the first of the next three films. Disney hasn’t been commenting on any of this, and today’s no different. Stay tuned.

It's official:

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

We all knew it was happening but seeing it in a press release makes me feel very excited, I also like that I don't recognize any of the other names, it should be that way. I'm pretty excited to see where the story goes.

Awesome! I got very excited too. So can't wait for this new trilogy! Part of me still can't believe we're getting new Star Wars on the big screen, but this news brings me back to reality. Quite a nice surprise for today. I wasn't expecting to hear anything until at least mid May.

I've been so pumped since they released this today. It's amazing how one simple picture can get me this excited for a film 20 months away. Please get this right JJ.

I'm a big Star Wars fan but am trying to keep my expectations low because I don't want to be too disappointed. I was pretty excited the other day when IGN had an article about how Han was going to feature prominently in the movie. He is my favorite character so that has me a little more hopeful.

I am loving this cast, sad to see EU go though, still not happy that Abrams is writing it, they kicked on of the best writers out and scraped his script, that worries me...
