People are selling these variant covers for upwards of £100 online (about $150). Which is making me think of the comics speculation market in the early 90s and how badly that turned out for the comic book industry.

Seriously, I don't understand people who buy more than one issue of the same thing.

simple, to sell. I read the issue online on the 18th after purchasing a copy of cover A for 3.99 plus shipping. didn't think anything of it at the end of the issue because inside im thinking..."Donatello can't really be dead."
then just because i frequent ebay i saw the prices of the 44 issue sky rocketing while looking for the new mutanimals on ebay. i usually buy everything on ebay from a few trusted sellers because all 3 of my lcs's suck.
i wish i would have put two and two together myself after the last page but since i read everything late i doubt i would have gotten to a shop with any still in stock.

so im going to start reading them all the second i can get them online and buy them asap. im also going to buy several copies of each cover of #50.

people buy more than one thing of something to collect and sell and to grade.

happens all the time and it will never stop.

also now i have all 4 covers of the 44 issue. i have A, B the RI variant and i will have two copies of the tricon cover.

i think its going to go down a bit in price but its still gonna be worth a pretty penny until Donatello is back to normal/alive in the comic and going forward because it will be the issue a ninja turtle was presumed dead.

great collectors item and i had some stuff recently sold on ebay so i basically traded for the b cover and ri variant and purchased the tricon covers. the tricon covers are only 1000 printed so thats the money issue to have in my opinion

Right, but didn't what happen in the 90s prove that this isn't a particularly good way to invest money? Besides, it leads to a culture where people are more concerned about making a comic "collectible" than the content that's inside.

I dunno, most of the con variants don't sell out. I have no idea what happens to the rest of the issues though. Can't see them being pulped because that's money down the drain.

The comic collector market just makes me shake my head most of the time.

I can see people collecting comics as a hobby for fun, but it's a terrible investment plan no matter how you slice it. The reason issues like Action Comics #1 and Detective Comics #27 became so valuable isn't just that they're the debuts of major characters, it's because people didn't know to hold on to those issues back then so they've become rare (there are maybe 50-100 known copies of AC #1, for example, with maybe a dozen still in good shape). Nowadays whenever something big happens you often have flashy, overpriced event issues advertised as such months in advance, and it doesn't take long for everyone who wants a copy to nab it... and then sit on it forever because there's not much of a resale market. And the normal issues wind up bagged and boxed in safety, so there's thousands and thousands of potentially purchasable copies of anything someone's likely to want.

Now sure, every once in a while you might have an issue that winds up being worth a few hundred bucks if something is a surprise hit, but that's going to be the rare exception and you're not going to pay off your future mortgage by hanging on long-term to any comic published in modern times.

AFAIK if they don't sell out you can nab 'em off the shop on IDW's site, same as Mirage. Don't quote me on that though.

I have a pretty strong feeling about this. One character's dialogue seems much more on point after the events of #44.

I just re-read the introduction of the Rat King and I'm fairly positive he's going to be making an appearance again soon. If you look back:
1) The Rat King talks about setting the pieces for the 'bigger game' being lead up to. He talks about sacrifices and pawns and winning pieces, like a chess game. He refers to Leonardo as his 'Knight'. Maybe he'll force him into his service in exchange for Donatello's life?
2) He plays on Splinter's guilt as a father. He even says right near the end of his mind game with Splinter, "I admire your single-minded desire to protect your children, Rat. A useful trait indeed." Hmm...
3) He makes a point of saying, "Pawns can be saved or sacrificed. Sometimes that depends on the whims of the player- other times, the strength of the move in play." Donnie just made one hell of a play, but he did have to sacrifice himself to do it. Maybe the Rat King will admire that trait? Leo is the Knight. Maybe Donnie is the Bishop?

So now that the Rat King has them in a tight spot, it seems like a good opportunity to get things into motion with the Pantheon.

I still say red masks for when the Hamato clan is "at war" would be the best, if they have to do the colors at all. Of course, finding times when the TMNT are not at war with someone is kinda difficult.

I like the colored bandanas for readability. Sure, the idea of each member of the group wearing color-coded clothing to identify them seems stupid compared to them having the same color, but it helps the reader identify which turtle is speaking or present in the scene without having to rely on their weapons, which aren't always visible.

I think we all know Don's not really gonna stay dead. My theory is that they will now go in a similar direction as Image comics did with Don, in that both him and Metal-head were busted up pretty bad. I think Harold will be the one to do it also, hopefully all of you know what im talking about, i dont know how to do the "spoiler" thing, this is just "educated guessing" of course.

I'm starting to get discouraged. A lot of interviews and websites said April 15th was the release, but IDW's email doesn't have 45 slated for a release next week. Also, my Comixology sub is saying the next estimated installment is the 29th.
Plz don't torture me until the end of the month. ;_;
