- What does "Heroes In A Half Shell" really mean?

- What does "Heroes In A Half Shell" really mean? -

Here is your brain teaser for the day. Has anyone ever thought about that lyric? Our heroes don't have half of a shell, you can plainly see there is a front and back. Okay, it's late and I am going to bed now. I hope to wake up tomorrow and see his topic filled with intelligent responses. Goodnight.

It's a pun. You know, a play on words. There's a common expression about eating oysters served on half of the shell. Well, these are heroes that happen to have shells.

Sayonara.

It is half of a shell. It's round on the back but flat in the front, so it's a semi-circle. If it were a full shell it would be round all the way, like an oyster or an egg. Since it is only round on the back, it is a half shell.

I got into the habbit back in 1992 or 93' when I was little. I would like to thank my 2 year older cousin for getting me in the habbit. 2001 was when I revised my knowledge on TMNT. And today I'm a bigger fan than I was years ago. I have all 3 TMNT Movies, current Toon, and old school Toon on DVD.

I always thought that they have half-shells because they do not cover their whole body: their legs are clearly shown.

Nice old school TMNT pic you got there. It's got all the authentic 80's pencilling/shading/colouring - they just don't make cartoon art like they used to anymore.

Funny you should mention this, whenever I talk to someone at school about TMNT and they remember the theme they always say "turtles in a half shell."

I remember onetime in my 10th grade biology class, we were talking about clams on teh halfshell, or whatever it was. One of you just mentioned it. And one of the immature boys in our class suddenly goes, "Heroes in a Halfshell..........Turtle Power!" LOL! Dunno the meaning of the name either. Unless they mean that the TMNT don't have regular bodies where alot of it is covered by their shells. Therefore, they are referred to as 'half-shelled'......?
