I hadn't really noticed till Powder pointed it out, but things have been amazingly civil, even in the disagreements. There's nothing wrong with disagreements so long as basic respect is kept between both parties, so I think it has gone well.

Now if only I didn't see so many pointless flaming threads on the anime forums I frequent...

I'm waiting for someone to make a thread asking on whether or not the turtles should have tails in the up coming movie since they had them in the mirage comics.

That, I would argue.

I'm showing my maturity here but from certain angles it looks like poop that's stuck.

Agreed. I'm glad to see that this topic is being discussed maturely without anyone resorting to personal attacks.

Not sure who came up with the specific colors, but the one who came up with the idea of multicolored bandannas was actually Peter Laird.

that will never happen in any medium outside the comics because you would have too many angry parents bitching about how the turtles are "exposed"

but to answer the thread topic, all red would be awsome but I don't care if we get multi-colored at this point.

The tails also look like dicks. That's another problem.

Edit: Surprised that isn't censored. Oh well.

I prefer the turtles with tails and red masks, but this is really just a part of the design, I'd be more concerned if they look too cartoony like the chipmunks, or too realistic, a hyper realistic look on the turtles could alienate them with the audience, and too cartoony the movie can't be taken on a serious tone.

multi masks or red masks, I'd love to see idividuality in the design for each turtle, making them easy to see the difference without any gear or clothes on.

Even if this movie with all red bandana turtles is to be more grittier than the first movie and is successful, a lot of people would be complaining about why the masks aren't colored.

I'm fine with it either way.

Not a bad reason to have them but the major flaw in that is reptiles don't sweat. The turtles have been shown sweating before though which always bothered me. If we're going for full blown realism here then having sweating reptiles would be bad.

But they are humanoid so that might make it make more sense.

That's a great point. If you go by the old toon origin story that would make sense but going by the comic origin it doesn't work. The OT mutation happened because of a cross of DNA. IE the last thing you touch your DNA combines with and you get a mash up of two species.

In the comic the turtles and Splinter are just exposed to the mutagen and it causes a mutation of their psychical form. This wouldn't change their inner biology. All the mutagen did to them in the comic was cause their brains to develop beyond their species normal capacity and cause their limbs to develop further as well. Reptiles did at one point stand on two legs and had three fingers so it's quite believable. This is of course assuming a turtle is a less evolved version of some dinosaur and if you do that you can completely take the human element out of their mutation.

Hey this is fun, attempting to apply logic to the turtles.

Yes, almost seems stupid considering what we are talking about. Almost.

But one thing I noticed is that in the episode where they meet Leatherhead mikey needs a mask to go under water. Now I know turtles hold their breath, so whats up with that. Or maybe thats a mistake? They also seem to be scared a few times throughout the series of water. Like when they had flashbacks and I think one of them fell into rapid running sewer water. Maybe the mutation took some of that ''turtle'' instinct such as being able to swim away.lol. But maybe the mutagen could do something to them possibly making them warm blooded? Or atleast change them in that way. It wouldnt be a far reach considering we are talking about mutated turtles who are also ninja. Haha.

Haha very true. We're just that devoted to the turtles, we much understand them.

Well many dinosaurs couldn't swim so I guess you could say they can't handle water like a turtle because their method of breathing evolved and they have no flippers. The fear of water could be a psychological thing too as they have developed brains which cab lead to irrational fear. That always bothered me too. It was obviously just a cheap way of tossing suspense into a scene.

I don't know how cold a sewer is but some of the locations the turtles have been to are cold. They never seem to bundle up so it would make sense they still have their reptile blood, which means they adapt to their environment. Guess they just never wanted to show Raph sunning himself on a rock.

My girlfriend is a paleontologist, and we've had a conversation or two about the biological nature of the Turtles. She...wanted me to make a list of all the instances where the Turtles sweat in order to figure out whether or not they were ecto or endothermic. Or, possibly poly-thermic....who knows.

But their sweating isn't the only thing that makes no sense from a reptile standpoint. They also have teeth, opposable thumbs, and the wrong number of digits on their hands and feet.

Also, only because I've seen someone else mention it, turtles do not have a shared ancestor with dinosaurs. They two lines co-existed. I wish I could find the link, but there's actually a prehistoric turtle that they found in Australia that was given the Genus species name "ninja turtle". Alas.

I don't think sewers get that cold, otherwise the pipes in them would freeze, and that'd be bad. They're well below the frost line, so they might be protected. That being said, I don't think the turtles are cold-blooded because...well, reptiles tend to go into a type of torpor if their core body temperature is allowed to go down too far.

...which is totally all on topic. I swear...
