I have this fear of sharks, and by extension, the ocean as well. Where I grew up there was quite a few incidents about shark attacks and sightings and several local beaches had to be shut down because of great white sharks. My younger brother actually was bit by a shark on a family trip to the beach.

Luckily it wasn't an adult shark but my little brother still had to over twenty stitches.

He and my older brother were in the water playing and suddenly my little brother jumped up and he had this shark latched onto him and he started punching it. It took my older brother, my cousin, and my uncle to get the damn thing off him and we had to rush to the emergency room. I can't remember what kind of shark it was but I think it was a young tiger shark. Whats scarey is this incident happened fairly close to shore in water that my younger brother (only eleven at the time) could stand up in.

Ever since then I have been afraid of sharks and ocean. I still like the beach and I'll go in it, but I won't travel too far out. I ushaully won't go into the water past my thighs.
