Yes, this is very annoying and I wish the discussion would just stick to the comic itself. I really hate this culture war crap and I wish people could learn to be more mature about politics than that, realise how fruitless it is to constantly and blindly defend "their side" when the reality is much more complex than "My side, your side". Or at the very least learn to know when discussing politics is appropriate and when it's not to discuss politics, doing so when discussing a comic book with barely any explicit political content because it happens to feature a lesbian pig... Well it would help if people didn't use gender/race nonsense and bigoted viewpoints as excuses for why the comic is supposedly bad.
