Interesting. As a side note, I've always preferred Donatello's "David" to Michelangelo's!

The effeminate David with his cute little hat and everything? Interesting. I've written a compare/contrast essay on them, though not really expressing opinion in the way of preference. What is it about Donatello's David that you'd say hits the mark as to why you prefer it?

I sense a trend with the two most recent (IDW & Nick) Donatello incarnations. It is clear from the first Nick episode that Don is going to be a far bigger personality than he has been in other incarnations. To an extent, IDW's Donatello also came off as a big personality right off the bat, favoring a rather aggressive approach akin to Raphael.

I think it's really cool that Donatello's character is getting this kind of treatment, in both versions. It's fresh, and pretty intriguing.

Well, I don't mind that he made David appear feminine. I think it's sleeker and more honest than Michelangelo's. Michelangelo was idealizing the human form and suppressing some serious emotional issues. I'm interested in your essay!

How is this new? Donatello had the most aggressive and assertive personality in the original cartoon, and saved the day in the majority of episodes.

I think it's just been easy to forget that considering he ironically got the short stick in 2k3 & TMNT.

When you say IDW version, do you mean the comics they are putting out currently? I don't know much about IDW, but your comment here just sounds really intriguing and interesting with this shift in his character development, especially since I prefer him and Raph over the others. Just thought I'd look into it

I'll admit that I haven't recently watched the OT, but I don't recall this side of Donnie to the extent that it's being used in today's incarnations. He's always assertive, he's Donatello. That's just part of his character.

I don't really see your question as holding weight; Donnie's never been so aggressive in other incarnations as to suggest murdering a defeated villain like he did in IDW with Old Hob.

Concerning Nick's Donnie, I doubt we'll be seeing scenes along those lines, obviously. However, I can tell by the first episode that Don's personality is big, he stands out. Maybe it's Paulsen adding a little something there. Either way, he seems rash and ruled by his emotions (judging from one episode) while still retaining what makes Don...well, Don. I think it's a rather obvious character difference.

I love 2k3's Donatello...I don't really see how he got the short stick, really. I remember the show focusing a lot on Leonardo but at least Mikey & Don seemed to be respectfully balanced in terms of character development.

Yep, the on-going comic. Check it out if you're intrigued! The first few issues do a good job at displaying this aforementioned side of Donnie.

What I meant was that he was not given as much attention as he was in past universes.

Awesome, thanks The various Turtles' comics are still a bit much for me to maneuver through since there's so many renditions out there, so it's helpful to have a bit of direction if I'm looking at the right ones.

Donatello by far had the most aggressive personality in the original cartoon, and was literally the star of the show for most of it. Every episodes problem mainly went to Don to save the day.

Don in the nick toon is of course going to kick ass. Its rop p. I can't wait to see more. Don in the idw is more aggressive and argumentative. I like how Raph isin't the only one to stand up to leo on a normal basis in the idw comic.

Man when I think of the original cartoon, I can't recall donatello having the most aggressive personality. I need to go back and watch those when my complete set comes in a month.

I liked that he said without hesitation that he was smarter than all of them including Leo.

I can't either, and maybe Cubed's more up on the OT but I think he's largely exaggerating. I don't think any Turtle was really overly aggressive in that show. I also don't recall Donnie being the star of the show, because he was (sadly) the least popular Turtle, at least from what I could tell. I never had a problem calling Donnie when my friends or cousins and I played Turtles, because nobody else wanted to be him. I considered myself lucky.

Heh, yep - smarter than all of them combined, he said!

You're joking, right? Donatello had a huge role in almost every episode and also wound up saving the day in most of them.

How can you say he didn't have an aggressive personality? He literally tells both Raph and Mike off in many episodes and goes off on his own in plenty. I think its because David Wise favored him over the others due to the amount of sci-fi plots the old toon had.

Yeah Cubed is totally on point in regards to Don's presence in the OT. He was more of a leader than Leo even, which as a Leo fanboy is hard to admit, haha.

Well, I said I don't think any Turtle was really overly aggressive in that show (keyword: overly), which I don't, because it was the OT.

I know he always saved the day, but that didn't make him the "star" of the show, at least not to the general public. Michelangelo was the "star".

There were plenty of people who liked Donatello back when the old show was airing. Mostly because of the videogames his staff gave you the illusion that you could hit Foot soldiers from further away,
