i find this episode really cool. but not sure how i feel about the whole "freak of the week" thing that they seem to be doing. i like that they're adding really original characters and i welcome them gladly. i just hope there's more to this plot as the series progresses.

spiderbites/bytez... [sp?]... is a pretty cool character. looks like a ben 10 alien though. but still a pretty cool concept. although... his obnoxious attitude is irritating a little. and i find the conceited kraang alien really funny.

Per the credits, "Bytez". Which matches up with this, so I'm pretty sure it's an intentional homage.

Am I the only one that kinda felt that we didn't need Spiderbites? I kinda think the episode was just fine with the Turtles having to battle the Kraang while trying to save an ingrateful jerk, as well as also making sure they got the phone. I didn't think a random mutant monster was needed, especially that far into the episode.

Also, based on how Snakeweed and Spiderbites look.... according to this cartoon's logic, why don't the turtles and splinter look like monsters? I'm sure they do look weird to normal people, but based on the more monsterous designs of these guys, the Turtles and Splinters should have big fangs, sharp claws, spikes here and there and long Venom tongues. Compared to the other mutants, the Turtles and Splinter look pretty normal.

And finally... why didn't Raph know how cellphones work? NOONE uses tapes anymore... and the days where only the super geeky nerds know what computers and technology are all about are way over. Cellphones with cameras are pretty commonplace nowadays, and Don knowing how they work doesn't really make him much a big tech head.... it just makes him 'normal'. So does Leo watch tv cartoons and Don play with computers while Raph sulks around with his pet turtle all day, sheltering himself from the rest of the world or what?

cool! thanks man! i never played that game so i was unaware of the homage. but pretty cool idea though. i'm liking the fact that they're introducing new characters. and it looks like raph is developing his character in just a couple of episodes. my worries that the characters are stereotypical of their personalities is being alleviated a little... well in regards to raph anyways.

you know... i've always wondered why don knew all these processor tech jargon but didn't know what a pizza was in 'Rise of the Turtles'. i'm guessing raph just doesn't care too much about tech stuff... so that would explain why he didn't know how they would work. after all... they've been sheltered underground for 15 years.

I really liked the new take Splinter after watching the first two episodes, but now, after watching this one, I LOVE him! That sarcastic little "burn"(to qoute Mikey) he gives Raphael was just too good!

well, I think donatello just has this urge to correct these kind of things whenever there is need too...that souldn't nessessarily be taken as a means to show that he is superior smart...at least not really here..
but to be quite honest with you, me I wouldn't get into learning how exactly videos are captured in today's technology either...I just haven't spend time figuring that out, so I don't feel that raph is exceptionally slow here,)...
also to tape something does just imply to record something..and in my understanding donatello as I said just has that urge to adress how videos are recorded with phones instead of how you used to record with tapes and films...

by the way...I like how splinter moves his ears while talking..that is a really cool observation about animals...I think he finally really looks like a rat, too..I love him maybe the most out of all characters so far!!...his line '...that might prove difficult when there is evidence in high definition' was very funny to me...also the cool little things they are incorporating in the animation are a joy to me..like leo twisting one of his katana before going 'prepare to dish out the mighty wrath of justice' or how he uses the swords to stand up after after a blow..great..oh, the dynamics in the fights, beautiful!I loved the scene in the beginning against the kraangdroids(nice term, leo) where michelangelo is moving towards camera and the wayhe lashes out the nunchuku into the camera is so energeticly captured..it's just big fun to watch...

Splinter quote is good as well but I couldn't stop laughing when Don told him to seriously just yell get em. In the old 80's toons each time Leo had to say something dramatic to get them to charge, I always wished someone would say exactly that to him, but since they didn't I was saying it.

Me: Spike, chomp on your leaf if you are worried about a cranky, acid spitting, possibly blood sucking mutated man spider lose in NYC.

Spike:Nom.

was a fun episode but i don't really like the design of spiderbites. wish he looked more like a spider. yeah, he still technically has 8 legs (4 new ones on top, plus his human arms and legs) but if you missed his mutation you can barely tell he is supposed to be a spider.

still bugs me how empty the cityscape look. even 1 or 2 random people in the background, even just for establishing shots, would go a long way. Regardless of the area of NYC it can't be 100% empty at all times.

Enjoyed this episode a good deal. The premiere of the show being an hour (or really the first two episodes combined to make one full hour episode) sort of threw me off when watching the true 30 minute slot, though. Nonetheless, really enjoying the new show thus far.

Excellent episode. The strong points of the premiere are carried out in this one as well:
- genuine humor
- the fighting sequences (top notch animation/visuals)
- Splinter's funnies and words of wisdom
- the brotherly interactions (bullying, teasing, etc.)

Can't wait for episode 4; has potential to be even better than the 45 minute premier. Chuck Norris C. Bradford FTW!

hello everybody

i must say i was a bit disappointed
first: what was the turtles' original plan? what kind of lab was that and why did the kraang disappear after the spidermutant showed up? i felt the ending of the episode was like no real ending. the spider jumps away, the turtles don't follow him (so let the mutantfreak wrack new york or what?) and they seem not to care anymore for the newly found kraang hideout, eventhough the whole agenda of the tmnt in this episode seemed to be exactly about finding that place.
i also didnt enjoy this "training" where the turtles would shoot with arrows at raph while insulting him in childish goofus manner.
also i was surprised that splinter would talk about shredder and not oruko sagi. i would have wished for a longer build up of the shredder persona.
anyway, let's mostly hope that this show won't become a mutant of the week show.

I don't think it's that unrealistic for Raph to not know about cellphones. I mean, they only just found out what pizza is. The tech they do have in their lair is pretty retro (TV, arcade machine, pinball machine). Makes sense that only Donatello would know anything about flash drives.

I enjoyed the episode, even more so on a second viewing (in high quality in Nick.com). My only reservations were Spiderbites/bytes/whatever, because it felt a little too similar to the Snakeweed situation (guy gets hit by mutagen because they're being a jerk, takes revenge on turtles for ruining his life), and Splinter's story to Raph. That, too, felt a little too similar to the back story from the first episode.

However, apart from those nitpicks, I thought this was another great episode.

A much weaker episode than the first 2. The bland black backgrounds for the ten minute fight scene had me bored. Just unimaginative animation and the spider sucked too. I don't mean to be negative! Also raph is my favorite turtle and I love me some sam wise but he seems to be the most boring turtle in this cartoon so far. lol. We'll see what happens later on though

Yeah, I hope this is not indicative of what every episode will be. It was pretty bland. But I have hope it will pick up.

Yeah, it felt exactly like a watered down version of the premiere. I will say that splinter outshined raphael in their discussion in terms of characterization. The new splinter is portrayed pretty well. Wise but a bit cocky, I like that. The fact that this is the 3rd episode, and it feels like filler in the middle of a season is a little scary though.

that is entirely what it felt like. the first episode introduced a lot of characters and gave them a big motivator going forward: rescue april's dad! in this ep, sure it seems like they are trying to accomplish that, but you don't get the impression anything moved forward. basically the turtles got sidetracked with a new villain and raph learned to control his temper a little.

it had a few good moments but felt like such a drop from the pilot that it did kind of bum me out.

if I were to give it a grade, it would be a C.

the kraang are really starting to bore me. they are totally incompetent in battle and they all look the same. again, feels bland. i hope they have some generals or something that will liven things up. not to mention they have all this ooze and seem to just be moving it around without using it for much of anything. they could... you know... create some of their own mutants to help them, maybe? i hope they have a good reason for moving this mutagen around, because so far it doesn't feel like it. I am patient, just giving my impressions so far with the info we currently have... which isn't much.

Looking forward to next week as eager as ever.

Yeah you share my thoughts exactly. I like the darth shredder sound and look so I hope they bring him in sooner rather than later. These coporate kraang looking robots are already stale for me. I also really hope that raph is more than just a hot head in this cartoon. I love the hot head role in the first film and mirage but it does get dry. He can be so much funner with wit and zingers.....I know donatello stole that role now. Probably why Donatello is my favorite turtle in this cartoon. I feel strange even typing that.
