Scheduling reasons, apparently. He is (thankfully, in my opinion) penciling one fourth of the Mega Man / Sonic the Hedgehog crossover that's scheduled for April.

I think that we should also account for the whole 'mental instability' thing that Baxter mentioned a while back when he was talking with general Krang.

In his oneshot, at least to me, Leo came across as a bit unstable at best. He kept having all these flashbacks that threw him off constantly. So it wouldn't be too crazy to assume that due to this fact he might not be thinking straight. Also, in this continuity he is clashing heads with don constantly, as well as the occasional hostility towards raph. So, basically, he is involved in a lot of conflict with his family. That, I think, is already starting to pile up and may be what ends up overwhelming his already unstable mind.

Another thing to consider is the current series, Secret History of the Foot Clan. In issue #1, Leo clearly stated that he wished to learn more about the foot. Could it be that, in his quest for knowledge, the mysterious book that is featured in that story ends up turning him?

There are a lot of ways to look at this. It may just turn out to be a typical infiltration tactic, or maybe something else. Only time will tell.... how long till may?

this is my only quip with his style. everything else i love. i mentioned it to him that while i love his work, i really didn't care for the stylized masks. they already have their own identities...and mask colors, so it seemed purposeless to have individual style masks.

Interesting. After all we still don't know WHY that book is so important. What does it contain? There's a variant cover by Ross Campbell on which we see the Turtles and the Foot fighting for the book. Why they both want it?

I like them, but he has so be careful with them. Leo's looked like he was at a masquerade ball on page 6 or 7 of Foot Clan #1. But normally they look pretty cool, especially Raph's.

Raph's bandana looks badass and Leo's is great too. But mikey's, and especially donnie's, look kind of dorkish...

It would be more awesome if they were all red.

I would love to see the IDW Turtles adopt the red again for a few issues, and their brother leaving the family would have been a perfect moment for them to once again take one one color to signify the broken family again (even thought it was "Raph's color").

Say, someone here should do a quick shoop showing Mateus's Turtles with red bandannas!

I was literally shocked to see Peter's season 2 and CaW production notes from his blog. He put up like zero fuss about it.

He actually did though, he wanted the Foot broken up into different factions. He also didn't like the idea of Karai being a pawn of the Shredder.

Do you have a link of his comments on this? I'd like to see. Kind of wondering what his rationale would be to have the Foot broken up if, in this continuity, the Shredder never actually perished.

I love Mateus' masks on the turtles. Hell, I love his turtles!!! When I picked up the first issue of SHoFC, that was one of the first things I noticed. I'm really excited to see where this series is going. My only gripe with IDW is, I wish that they would have some of the Mirage guys do a Cover or Micro. I would kill to see artists styles mixed in one issue. Maybe, one doing a cover the other doing the pages or pencils/inks combo, or colors. Campbell/Talbot, Kuhn/Lawson, or Berger/Duncan...Damn that would be good.

Like ... ? People forget that less than a half of "City at War" deals with the Turtles' interactions with the Foot, and even that's wrapped in a lot of moral ambiguity/end-game feelings that IDW isn't going to touch, certainly at this point, possibly ever. Also the plots just don't sound remotely similar?

Still looks good though. The IDW series needs more tension as a whole if it's going to live up to its action-serial format (which I feel has never quite been realized), and this seems like a step in the right direction.

That all sounded pretty negative, but I really am excited.
