IDW doesn't plan on collecting the Image books?!

Because "there may be too much of it"?

Double you tee eff... there is 23 issues of 22 pages, or 506 pages, along with Big Bang #10 and the four or five filler pages from the TPB.

Roughly a 530-page book, or two 265-page collected volumes.

Hire Frank Fosco to draw new covers, don't color it.

Doesn't make sense that a continuation of the Mirage universe be case aside due to licensing from Image or whatever.

Good thing about plans is that they aren't set in stone... at least, not in this day and age. ^_^

Well, since IDW doesn't seem capable of putting more than 4 issues in a book...

I don't know where any of you got this from. They're not planning on it now because they didn't even finish Volume 1 yet, and naturally Volume 2 would be collected next.

Ask again after we have the last Volume 2 collection.

The Bleeding Cool article, which I take with a grain of salt but it's the first we've heard since Bobby mentioned they may at some point down the road (in a couple years).

the image run would probably be the only TPB that i'd pick up. i never got into these comics when i was younger, so i never bothered to collect them. i have all of the other tmnt comics, so i have no need for trades....but these...i probably would.

It's been a while since I've read the image comics, but isn't the series pretty deeply embedded in in the Imageverse? I'd imagine it could be a pain to get permission from all the owners to use the characters in the reprints... From my understanding (which could be completely misinformed), Image creators own their characters, so even if Larson was on board with the reprints, others may not be.

But they're owned by IDW/Nickelodeon now, they can do as they please without asking their permission, right?

Like mgambino, I was actually curious as to where this material stood from a legal standpoint, as it contains a number of characters still owned by Image.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the only creator-owned characters to appear in the Image TMNT series were character created by Erik Larson (the Savage Dragon and his extended cast) and characters created by Gary Carlson (Galahad/Night Watchman, Deathwatch, Vanguard).

They'd only have to secure permission from 2 individuals and that seems entirely feasible.

No, not necessarily. They couldn't reprint "The River" even though the majority of the characters were created by Kevin and Pete, because Rick Veitch created Blood-Sucker and the story is still considered HIS intellectual property. That's the same reason that they couldn't reprint #8: Cerebus. I believe that #8 has actually been redone with Cerebus edited out, but it was drawn by Lawson in his newer style, so it doesn't really fit with those older books... at all.

You guys are also forgetting that "Body-Count" takes place in the Image-verse, I didn't see that mentioned here. So there are a lot of odds and ends, tie-ins with other books (like Savage Dragon) and random bits... I could see them not wanting to be bothered with it, honestly. Seems like a lot of trouble. Don't get me wrong, I love the Image series, and IF they were to reprint it, they should buy Andrew's conclusion, since a lot of love and hard work was put into it and it more than suffices as an adequate conclusion to the series, and make that conclusion official so that it can be read on a vast scale.

Gary Carlson already said he'd allow IDW to re-print the Image series. I remember someone, I think it was Andrew (?), posting a quote from Gary saying, "I'm not happy about another company reprinting our comics, but I also don't own the TMNT, and it would be really wrong of me to prevent people from seeing the material."

I'm sure he'll allow it.

It was Erik who said that, not Gary.

Note that in addition to Erik and Gary, they might need to get permission from Chris Ecker, as he co-owns the Knight Watchman and Galahad with Gary, but I'd bet he'd also be cool with it.

Probably what they mean is not anytime soon. If money gets dry they'll have to do it.

You're right, but that version was only released in Spain. There's a great fan translation by Arseniy Dubakov though. (They got reprint rights by Dave Sim for the US trade in the end.)

Uhm, no, I think you're wrong there. Bodycount was Eastmans brainchild and was finished before the Image sale. Mirage even published the first issue before the whole thing went on hiatus. But yeah, Image finally published the complete run (with different page counts to fit in 4 issues instead of 5).

Not sure why this is being discussed. The trades are still only up to Volume 1, and the only stuff they're collecting from Mirage otherwise is Tales of the TMNT so far.

Once we get finished with Volume 2 collected, THEN we can complain if IDW isn't collecting the Image series. We're still far off.

I probably wouldn't pick it up any way, considering it ended/cancelled (??) with a cliff hanger any way

feel kind of pointless to pick it up to me

excuse me but body count did not play in the image universe..all the characters that I remember were created by kevin...
as for the topic, all we read in that 'article' was one comment about it by one person, the people at idw know that we love to get the image tmnt comics reprinted and I remember that they like them too so its in their mind probably too(cowabunga corner interview #2 with tom waltz for example)...I bet we get a nice reprint of it(HOPEFULLY in its orginal black and white outfit!)in a few months or years...
cant wait to read them in a row, I still lack many of those issue in between..

I agree that it wasn't pointless, but it was cancelled before reaching any kind of satisfying conclusion. That being said, I really hope they collect it because I think it was the most unique of any of the Turtle runs.

Plenty of good comics (and TV shows, and book series, and video games) have been canned before the story gets tied up, but that doesn't make them pointless.
