thoughts on lord dregg

personally, i dont really care for dregg myself. he just seems like a generic character who wouldve been better as a one time villain as opposed to replacing shredder and krang. but i do like tony jay so he at least has one redeeming quality for me. i remember as a kid wondering why he never had an action figure. what are your thoughts?

Lord Dregg is one of the most epic villains in the whole franchise. I cannot believe no toy exists. He would have worked perfectly in 2k3

As a villain he was alright, especially in Season 10 where he becomes more entertaining. The problem was he shouldn't have replaced Shredder/Krang.

If he co-existed alongside them and they were at at odds with each other (like in the 3 parter from Season 10) it would have been better.

At first, I didn't like Dregg. I wanted Shredder and Krang to come back and not be replaced. I learned to like him more once he met Shredder and Krang.

I friggin love Tony Jay, and he's the main reason that I like Dregg. That voice was just too cool! He was Dregg, the Skeleton Warriors narrator, Megabyte from Reboot, Frollo from Hunchback oND, Wraith from Mighty Ducks, Chairface Chippendale from the Tick, and probably more that I cant remember.

Oh, I love Tony Jay (mayherestinpeace), but even his dulcet voice couldn't give Dregg the air of gravatas that I'm sure the writers were seeking.

You can dismiss it all as being unable to accept change, but Dregg just wasn't a *good* change. He was the writers phoning in a generic, goofy-looking supervillain that they thought would be "badass" but had no interesting qualities. He wasn't even that competent.

He was more competent in Season 10. His idea of transporting pieces of the sun into Earth's cities and burning them was pretty heavy stuff for the original cartoon.

I've seen season 10. I stick by my original point.

I'll make a small exception for the last episode, when he had the powers of all those aliens and kept turning into crazy shapes. Or when he had that sarcastic mini-Krang popping out of his head.

Otherwise...no dice.

Didn't like Shredder and Krang being replaced by some generic intergalactic warlord. Which was why I stopped watching the show when it aired during the Red Sky seasons and why it's hard for me to sit through right now and I don't know when I will pop in the DVD to finish watching the series.

All in all not at all fond with the guy even when he met Shredder and Krang.

Tony Jay really did save his character. If they just gave Dregg any generic alien voice, nobody would have cared.

But damn, Tony Jay! When he was making his threats or plans Tony Jay gave Dregg credibility.

I never really cared much for Dregg. I thought he was kinda lame compared to Shredder and Krang.

He and Venus are amongst the most underrated TMNT characters ever. Dregg was by far the most twisted villain the Turtles faced in the cartoon until Ch'rell came about.

Do you realize what just happened CC? we agreed on something! Oh happy day! I'm so proud of us

But I seriously agree with you, Tony Jay was the main redeeming quality of Dregg. Tim Curry may be the only other voice actor that could have given the character such gravitas. (I sure hope Tim is OK after his stroke...)

He was no Season 1, 7, or 8 Shredder, but I still watched the show. He was alright.

I was really upset in the mid 90's the there wasn't toys for Dregg, Hi-Tech, Mung, the techno gang, and the bat men.

Dregg would not have been Dregg without Tony Jay. Another thing that worked in Dregg's favor was that he appeared during the "red sky" era. I don't know that I would've found him to be as enjoyable of a character had he appeared during the early seasons.
