I have nothing against a white guy being Shredder, I just wished it would've been Hugo Weaving

Funny that you mention that cause Hugo Weaving actually played an Asian character in Cloud Atlas.

What if they were to do the crazy thing and have William Fichtner in makeup and prosthetic to look Japanese?

William Fichtner would've made a pretty good Bishop.

Funny thing is, that isn't Hugo Weaving.

I believe that was done in Cloud Atlas because it was pertinent to the context of the overall story. It would be dumb if they did it, otherwise. (It even looks dumb there, but, hey, at least it makes some kind of sense why they would do that there.)

Yeah, Hugo Weaving kind of played the villain in every story, so it made sense.

To be honest, though, it looked dumb and was kind of jarring. I'd rather have a straight up white Shredder than a stupid looking one.

Somehow I doubt that's even been realistically considered.

I'm going to get advanced tickets when they're available. As much as I fear for this movie sucking, I'm still anxiously waiting to see it. I want to be the first one in the theater. I want the best experience.

Yeah, I mean, it's something of a given that we're pretty much all going to watch the flick. It's a foregone conclusion that people obsessed enough with the Ninja Turtles to actively participate in forums on the subject are going to see it, one way or another. I'm quite certain that I'll see it in theatres.

Even if it's a crapfest and you never pay money for it, even if some of you never admit to wanting to see it... come on, you wouldn't be fooling anyone.

Yea, I'm hoping to get tickets, not sure if I have to preorder them from my local theater online, somewhere else, or what.

I kinda assume they're trying to go for a more realistic approach, like most movies are going for nowadays. I guess for the filmakers it's easier to swallow a rogue General and his military unit planning to take over the city than random ninjas running around.

Sadly with this guy playing Shredder, all we'll see is his ordering his troops around, and his final confrontation with them being him trying to shoot them with a gun. No all-out ninja battle.

I fail to see how a ninja is any less realistic than an army general. Particularly if that general is secretly a spikey yellow skinned alien.

Realism in movies is relative anyway. If someone wanted to make a truly realistic version of the Foot Clan then they could base them on the real life Yakuza. An actual international criminal organisation that started in Japan.

I don't think it's about being "realistic" it's about what Bay and Leibesman think makes a cool movie. Guns n' explosions and big army battles etc.

It makes you wonder why they would bother with Shredder and not go with say Bishop or an original military themed antogonist other than the fact that the name 'Shredder' has more promotional value.

Hugo Weaving?? Are you guys even serious?

Dude was Megatron in Transformers, and he bitched about that and talked **** about Bay.. Look it up. You think he would want to do a movie like this? Transformers is a billion dollar franchise. He would never want to be associated with a movie like this. Stop listing A listers you want in this movie. Roles have already been cast. Deal with it!

And even if he wanted to do it, Bay wouldnt cast him after he talked **** about Transformers

Um...I don't think anyone was suggesting Hugo Weaving should be in this movie. If anything they were using one of his prior roles to show how Fichtner being cast as a possible Japanese character is no big deal.

Transformers wasn't exactly a top tier franchise prior to the movies. I think it's unrealistic to expect actors of a certain age and style to really "get" the appeal of franchises like Transformers and TMNT. It probably sounds like complete nonsense to them. Even amongst ones that are open minded they probably have to have it explained to them why these are great characters and potentialy great roles to play. Of course I doubt Michael Bay really does that, in fact we know he doesn't. That was one of his problems with Bay and Transformers, hed never met Bay and knew jack about the franchise.

I don't think Hugo Weaving is that closed minded. Afterall he kept his mask on all the way through V for Vendetta. So he obviously "got" that role. I actualy think that someone with that kind of dedication would be a plus for a TMNT movie.

I'm just saying, nowadays everyone wants to make everything realistic and stuff. Like, the only fantasy related element would be the Turtles themselves but the rest of the world would be all dark, gritty and 'real'. So it just seems feasible they went with the general angle because it's more believable than a random dude that runs around at night dressed in sharp metal. It's like the filmakers are thinking 'ok... we already have humanoid turtles and rats, let's not go overboard with a ninja clan led by a super villain too. that's just TOO goofy'.

I of course don't agree with this, but based on the trend of current movies, it sure seems that way. Look at Dark Knight. The Joker was reduced to just some crazy guy with clown make up instead of someone who actually fell into a vat of chemicals that permanently turned his skin white and hair green and kills people with lethal laughing gas. That movie was so dark and realistic, the only thing cartoonish was Batman himself.
