Honestly, I didn't what to think about the new show before it came out. From how the trailers portrayed it, some of it turned me off from it because I didn't like how the characters looked and the phrase "Booyakasha!". I was afraid that this show would try to hard to be like the 80s series, of which I loved but has aged.

When the show first aired I enjoyed the first few episodes to an extent but I think my biggest problem with it when it first aired was that it was lacking it's owns identity. It was hard to figure out what the direction of this show was going for; was it trying to be like the 87 series, the 03 series, was it trying to be an action or comedy series, why is there anime expressions in a CG cartoon, etc. Basically what is this show trying to be. The animation also threw me off, sometimes it was smooth, other times it looked like the same as Penguins of Madagascar ("Metalhead" for example).

But as the series progressed (probably when Karai appeared), I started warming up to this show because it finally knew what kind of show it wanted to be. I really do like the action. I believe "Never Say Xever" had the best action in this series. While there are still some things that irk me about this show, for the most part I am enjoying what I'm watching.

Off-topic, I am actually new here and I was wondering if anyone can help me on how to have a profile pic.

Welcome aboard. Below the drome logo is a tab that says "User CP", click that. Scroll down a tad, on the left hand side you'll see a tab that says "Edit Avatar", click that and you'll know what to do from there.

I was always pretty optimistic so my opinion hasn't really changed. I think as the show has gone into more serious territory I've become an even bigger fan. I appreciate that like Avatar, it can still keep its sense of humor even when things get serious.

I just love this show, and my opinion hasn't changed at all since I watched the first episode last September. I have loved it the whole time. Before the show came on, I thought it was strange that they were going to have April as a teen and three toes, but it works for me now. I love what they have done with the turtles. Bring on season 2!!!

Quoting my post on the subject:

Quote:
A lot of comparisons have been made between this latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teen Titans, and not without reason: TMNT‘s tone and visual style both recall the older show, and I don’t think it’d be farfetched to surmise that showrunner Ciro Nieli—who served as director in episodes like “Terra” in the older show—uses it as one of its north stars (the other North Star being, of course, the Fred Wolf cartoon). And frankly, I have absolutely no problem with that: one of the things I think that show did really well was to balance its humor and character moments with legit action, the way the first TMNT cartoon tried but could very rarely achieve. What’s more, the way Teen Titans commitment mixed utterly off-the-wall episodes like “Employee of the Month” with restrained, emotion-driven fare like “Things Change” was itself very reminiscent of the TMNT’s approach to storytelling, not just in that first cartoon, but in all its incarnations. In the end, it is that variety—what I call the Doctor Who factor, after one of that show’s trademark characteristics—that has allowed the concept to work in all its different takes.

[...]

It is precisely this element which I feel is missing from Nick’s Turtles, and one of the two major things that prevents me from enjoying it as much as I’d like. Missing from the show is that sense of scope, that sense of “what will they tackle next?” The original comic book wasn’t just a comic book about ninjas: it was a book that held you by the shoulders and told you “abandon all expectations; this is a book about whatever we want it to be, and that can be anything”. It’s why, when the Archie book decided to spend a story arc having the turtles travel South American in a series of stories with a distinctively environmental bent, it still felt like the turtles.

Compare this version’s freshman season with its predecessor’s. By the time “The Search for Splinter” ended, the audience had seen superheroes, fight clubs, living drawings created by Jack Kirby, nanomachines, homeless-people kidnappers, mobsters, monsters, monster hunters, ancient civilizations and yes, mutants and ninjas and brain-like aliens. While a considerable amount of time was spent in New York, the series also went to other dimensions, deep underground, and even Massachusetts, and the result was a world that felt considerably more stimulating than this one.

In contrast, Nick’s TMNT feels no larger than the few city blocks we always see when the turtles head topside. Part of it is clearly due to budget constraints—never has such a good-looking show looked so bound–but a lot of it is also in the execution. In focusing so much of the story on the same two sets of villains—the Foot and the Kraang—and connecting every other threat to them, the series has taken away a lot of the interest away from the world. Why should we care about it, when we know there’s nothing interesting there?

probably one of my biggest concerns when i heard about it, thinking it would look very cheesy, but honestly its looked great, the only scene that to me didnt look that great was the rooftop scene in turtle temper, there they just looked way too CG

Anyway this show has not exceeded my expectations. I felt the turtles were acting too close to human teenagers and kind of lost their fantasy edge. These are mutant ninja turtles. Half of their appeal is the ninja turtle aspect. They are not just regular human teens who can fight. The purple dragons were basically non existent. They were not nearly the same intimidating force like it was on the 4kids series. They seemed to be just their for the turtles to beat up on.

I have 2 agree w/ u on these part, the show has had a good start and I feel like it has taken in a even mix of the previous versions though I was hoping 4 the show 2 take after the 03 a bit more, when I 1st heard about the nick version, I was wary/really upset cause I feel like animated shows r better drawn than done in cgi but its turning out better than I expected in that aspect

if some of u have read some of my previous posts where im talking about them being humanized 2 much in this version and the 80s version, part of the quote above says part of wat I mean by that and that them being mutants, they don't have the same experiences as humans so y try 2 make them seem like humans

this is kinda a long shot but im hoping that some company out there makes more of a version directed toward adults or more anime-like in terms of less limitations as 2 the content and wat can be shown on the show, I understand its more of a kids show and nick more than likely wont do this but I do hope 4 it 2 take on more than "kiddy-show" limitations, then again, I am a high-action anime fan, and on the purple dragons in the show, I feel like they r completely WEAK!!! but that's my personal opinion

I do appreciate that they brought karai back and some of the plots have been pretty good, along w/ some of the fights, though honestly, I feel like the best fight scene is in the gauntlet and that even though it was a good fight scene, it does come close 2 the fight scenes in 03 but is far from evening topping that, again, personal thoughts coming from a anime fan

on a end note, having newtralizer eat that kraang was a nice touch which I wasn't expecting 2 be in the show

I like the fact that they've taken the the best elements of the 2003 series and blended them with things about the original brand that were actually cool while also giving the show that "Goonies" feel. TMNT should always have sort of a "lost boys who know more about the world via what they see on TV than from actual interaction with others" feel to it, which was captured well in the first and fourth movies, too.
