The design of the costume looks like a combination of the Out of the Shadows game models and The Next Mutation TV show. I don't really hate or like the costume it is just kind of "eh". My judgment on this movie is placed most squarely on the director, story, characterization, and the movie itself. So far it doesn't look great, but I will give the movie a chance. This had better not be Dragonball Evolution bad, that was just scary awful.

Also I do not have pictures, but I once had pajamas that doubled as costumes, they were for Donatello and Raphael. Best PJs ever.

If I didn't know this was from the new movie I would HONESTLY say that I thought it was the Lizard from the Amazing Spiderman movie. I didn't like that design either but will readily admit that movie KILLED Spidey 3.

They did for the 80s toon towards the end in a sense, they did for the final season of the 2003 toon.

Transformers had it happen in their recent cartoon as well where the designs were heavily movie inspired.
Yep. just like the movies slaughtered the fun, colorful, flawless X-Men of the 90's. They did away with their brilliantly designed uniforms and team line-ups, to cater to the bland-as-hell movie origins and forever destroyed the X-Men for me.

I'd say "Ha! Now you Turtles fans will know how us Godzilla fans felt when they released that abomination iguana in 1998 and dared to give him the same name". But then I remember, I am one of those turtles fans as well and will suffer with everyone else (if it's truly as bad as these costumes appear.....for now I will still hold onto a shred of optimism).

Actually this is STILL one of the movies I'm looking forward to this year.. It could be like Amazing Spider-Man people hated the costume then he went back to his normal look. While I still believe these are trial balloons to gauge reaction, if this is the end product who knows after a big battle with the Shredder the turtles would go back to the way they always look because keeping up with clothes is too much of a bother to them. Either way I'm curious to see how this version of the TMNT universe shapes out.

Yeah, but the bigger problem people are having is the face design. They could go back to what they usually wear but you can't change the face for the sequel. They're kind of stuck with it unless they change it in post production.

I'm sure very few cares and calls it a loincloth. Just like He-Man's outfit have been humorously called a fur thong, when it is in fact not a thong.

Yeah it's a cheap costume but it still gives us some very important clues about the design decisions they are taking. So I don't agree with some that are dismissing it totally based on that.

I'm good with the turtles wearing clothes or sunglasses and whatnot but not if it's part of their everyday wardrobe. I understand why they'd come to that decision: the turtles grew up in a sewer and watched a lot of TV, exposing themselves to all this human culture and materialism. They are basically human teenagers in mutated turtle bodies, so of course they'd want to be fashionable and wear clothes and accessories like sunglasses etc. That all makes sense. But visually it just clashes against what they have always looked like. I'm not sure it's the right way to go.

I have more of a problem with the tattoos cause assuming the turtles are roughly 15yo (heck even 18yo), it's not a really good message to be sending, the turtles have always had a very clean-cut image, and they have a very attentive father who I can't see liking that very well. So I'm a little apprehensive about it.

As always, my mind is open. But I'm not impressed so far.

Now that they apparently have "lips" I just really, really hope that the way they look when they talk is not too strange. I don't care what looks more "real" i care about what looks cool and honors the history of the turtles. I think a lot of us were really happy with how the turtles looked in the 1990 live action film, they really don't have to do all that much to update them for 2014 in terms of their look. Overdesign is a huge problem in a lot of films, I hope the turtles aren't going to suffer from it.

I was actually expecting a lot worse than what we've got here! It's not the greatest image to be released, so I'm reserving judgement until we see the actual design as it's supposed to be, and not as a cheap Halloween costume.

The only part of the design I dislike is the lips, and I'm hoping the shape of the head 'squashes' down a bit...

It's a f***ing Halloween costume, the turtles aren't going to look like that in the film. Overreacting much?

Mikey with shades is a cool idea, classic old 'toon mini-series vibes and it fits the character.

Not feeling his Stanly Ipkis impersonation though

We shall see. However, it must be remembered that this has shown up after a lot of info and images more closely related to the film, and very few of those have been well-recieved. You argue that, as a cheap Halloween costume, it obviously isn't going to be too good, but then how do you explain those infamous Michael Bay films that costed loads of money to make; yet still are widely despised by many people? Things can, in fact, be broken in concept as well as in execution.

What, you mean the Transformers films? They might not be too well received but I am an avid Transformers fan and I like quite a few of the movie designs, and I liked the movies as movies. There are many different series of Transformers, all of them are different and some are worse than the movies (Transformers Energon, Kiss Players). Anyway, the costume is probably like that so the child with the costume can see and it can fit on their heads.
