They are similar, but not completely taken from the vintage toys.

The paint job is the worst offender, it completely ruins the Henson look without any textures or colors. The faces are pretty bad as well, but I think I could have forgiven them if there was some more then bare necessity paint job.

Brought up earlier, but looking at your photo the feeling becomes even more clear. Geez. Playmates, you've done this stuff since 1988, have you never watched the movie? Google photos even?

Playmates Exec 1: So we're gonna do some figures for the TMNT movie.

PM Exec 1: No, the old one.

PM Exec 2: Should we have the sculptors get source material to do them?

PM Exec 1: Nah, we did some figures I think a long time back based off them, tell the sculptors just to use those as a basis except with less paint and detail.

I think the movie classics look off because of the eyes, they don't really rest into the head naturally like they should? Like how there's a little bit of green skin around them in the movie, and even on those old movie figures. As they are now the white of their eyes fills the eye slots completely, like a cartoon character, so that's how it comes across.

You're being too easy on them. We've been through this prototype game before, many times. The on-shelf versions will look almost identical to those, I promise you. Paint apps could vary some (usually for the worse), but other than that: these are final I bet.

The Man of Steel Movie Master final product looks very different from the prototype....just saying

Regardless of how people feel about the original movie figures I still like them. I do agree that the faces need work and some body work wouldn't hurt but they are fairly decent looking and look to have great articulation. The new movie figures look good. I just really want to see a more collectible figure not meant for children....and I want to see Splinter and a good clear shot of Shredder of course. As of now I'm semi content

The "1990" label on the packaging is highly misleading, the movie turtles are loosely based off the movie stars vintage figures with a lot more cartoony expressions, ie they are not the movie 1 turtles but movie 2 turtles. It should have been 1991 on the package. They look way too cartoony to be based off the first movie.
