Generally things are worked out well in advance, but sometimes there are unforseen costs - say the price of oil spikes, then it's going to have a knock-on effect on plastic costs. Or maybe there's a problem with the factory and a new one has to be found. Stuff that you can't really plan for, that can have a huge effect, from meaning paint apps have to be cut, to accessories being dropped, or joints omitted, or even whole figures cancelled.

Of course, there is the simpler explanation - Playmates (a company never known for their high quality) knows that kids & collectors will buy the toys regardless, and are happy to knock them out on the cheap. A somewhat cynical view, but probably not too far from the truth...

I'm hoping Playmates doesn't keep pumping out paint variations on these figures. Mutagen Man I could deal with, since I like the blue color better and I put pupils on him myself, but the Casey thing is just ridiculous. I just noticed that mine is the one with the grey torso, which makes no sense since the hood is black...UGH, so my Casey not only has two left arms but now a mis colored torso as well. No way I'm buying another one, though...(not like I could find one even if I wanted to, anyway...)

Thanks for the welcome! These boards seems like a pretty busy place, with lots of people posting, which makes it more fun! Thanks for the info about the paint glitch, and sorry that I didn't notice that this info was already in other threads. So, is the consensus that the dark grey is the "proper" shirt color? I also think that the black actually does look better (IMO) because the all-grey scheme seems a bit drab to me (and I like the fact that the hood is also black). I'm gonna try to spot another black one in my travels (if I spot them again anytime soon!).

I didn't hear about the Mutagen Man paint variation (besides the eyeballs being unpainted issue). Is it the color of the translucent body/container (blue vs... green?).

Also, your Casey has two left arms? Is that turning out to be a common thing? Wow- Playmates needs to step up their QC, big time! I saw Turtles in Training on the shelves where they fell apart inside the package, and I heard about the misassemblies on the Classic Rocksteady figs, and now this! Jeez.

I would definitely keep an eye out for Caseys on the shelf, and when you find one (maybe with a black shirt, if that's what you like!), I would do an exchange for your defective one. No reason you should have to keep a messed up figure like that!

Not in the video, but I think it was mentioned on this forum once that the first anchovy alley didn't sell well enough. Henceforth, the Shredder base was canned.

The anchovy set is pretty sweet and inventive, as it's easy to store ( unlike the sewer play-set) I do wish it had a street floor for the topside with the pizza restaurant door and the lowest floor is a bit too small to have a figure standing properly under the ceiling.

But the possibilities for more is there, we could have gotten connecting sets with lots of inventive features.

It is however kinda hilarious that LEGO releases both movie and cartoon Karai figure and Shredder's lair before Playmates does.

The one without pupils has a blue "window" on the container, and the one with pupils has green.

I'm not sure if it's a common thing, but mine has two left arms, yeah. So the one in the right arm socket can't articulate properly in the elbow (it goes backwards.

There's no way I can do an exchange, I don't have the box for him. It doesn't really bother me enough to get a new one, though...I can deal with it. I should've inspected him in the box when I found him, but I was just so excited to finally find him that I just bought him right away.

Regarding the exchange, there is no reason you can't purchase another one and return your original in the new package- you got a legit defective one and the packaging is exactly the same. It's up to you, but I don't think that anyone would consider that wrong to do. You paid good money for a figure and you deserve to have one that is free from defects (IMO).
