Nobody save for comic book fans knew who Iron Man was and now, thanks to a creative team who gave a damn and respected the source material, a studio willing to put the effort and money behind the project, and a fantastic cast of actors, Iron Man is a household name.

And that was BEFORE all the Avengers hype. They managed to make Iron Man HUGE based on nothing but great trailers and fantastic word of mouth.

GotG has an equal if not BETTER chance than Iron Man did. Now because Marvel Studios is a proven brand with quality product and a lot, A LOT, of good faith and hype behind it.

I'm not really a betting man, but gun to my head? I think it's going to do great. Maybe not Avengers numbers but then it really doesn't need to do those types of numbers.
I don't think Iron Man was as obscure a character as you're trying to make him out to be. I knew who Iron Man was at the time, and I wasn't into comics at all at the time. My experience with Iron Man was through his cartoon in the mid-90s. It's a far different situation with Gaurdians of the Galaxy in terms of name recognition at the time the came out. If Iron Man was a B-list character at the time, GotG are barely D-list characters. This film, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange/Black Panther wouldn't be possible without the brand recognition Marvel Studies has built up with it's Cinematic Universe.

Yes. Which is the point I made here:

My point is I don't think you can say Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy are on the same name recognition list at the time their respective movies came out which is what you imply by trying to refute his nobody knows what Guardians of the Galaxy is with the claim that nobody knew who Iron Man was at the time.

Before the Iron Man movie, the general audiences did not know who Iron Man was.

Same as GotG.

It doesn't matter that Iron Man had a cartoon in the 90s for a while that you watched.

Vast majority of people that didn't read comic books or watch Saturday morning cartoons did not know who Iron Man was.

Now, he's a household name.

And Iron Man didn't have the brand power behind it that GotG currently has now.

So as of right now GotG has a better chance than Iron Man did previously because of Marvel's brand power.

No, I think there's still time. It's only February. But I think we'd have heard something by now if there were plans.

Yes and no.

I'm not super aware of all the ins and outs of release date goings on, but just at face value, boy would it look bad for them.

Several release date changes already and then another one after their main competition in August just released a very well received, fantastic trailer?

It'd be embarrassing.

They probably could but the only place I'd think of that they'd put it is February, which is where a lot of movies go to die.

I just don't think that's the case with Iron Man, but whatever.

If you're gonna disregard cartoons, we may as well stop here. Darned near everything would be on an even playing field.

It depends how far along they are

Dumb and dumber to finished filming well in advance and they are pushing for an earlier release so in regards to this film they might be able to push it back again but it likely would have been announced by now.

While he wasn't as popular as he is today, I think he was more known than you are saying.

I wouldn't want a movie this close to anything with such a similar demographic, regardless of how successful I expected it to be. How much is yet to be seen, but really, this is bad for both movies...

I think most people was aware of Iron Man, just not enough to read the comics if they didn't already. He may not be as iconic and recognizable as Captain America, Wonder Woman or Wolverine, but still one of those heroes people have seen somewhere probably thanks to the cartoon series or other Avengers material.

GotG, will ride on the Marvel Studios name and the sheer enthusiasm the marketing have been, with the teaser, intro videos, trailer and the very clever poster with the " you're welcome " written on it. And I think that's enough to get people curios to see the movie, it's been a while since we've had a space opera of this caliber, a science fantasy movie. And with the grit and the grim, I think many wants something that is both clever and fun to watch. Something that isn't insultingly lowbrow but still can make a whole audience laugh.

And judging by the promotions and trailers, that is what we wil get from Guardians... Hopefully.

So of the movies that I see people trashing on here (Man of Steel?!) just make me scratch my head. If this movie turns out to be as good as Green Lantern (which most of you also seem to hate), I will be very satisfied. There is still so much unknown about this movie.. I will wait to see it. It seems to me like some people need to lower their standards for what they expect from a TMNT movie. It won't have any implication on your health, family life or financial well-being, so maybe just accept it as entertainment. If you can relax a bit and let it entertain you, even if it isn't literally the greatest movie ever made, it can still be enjoyable.

The bottom line is that even asking the question "has GOTG already won August" is far beyond ridiculous. I feel confident that if I polled 500 random people on the street and asked them for their thoughts on these two upcoming movies, most people would know nothing about either of them. If I asked 500 random people, in general have you ever heard of GOTG and TMNT? I think the score would be about 497 for TMNT to maybe 50 for GOTG. So there are likely a huge number of people who saw the GOTG teaser and really don't know what it is, other than a movie.

No one has won August, 95% of people haven't considered anything they'll be doing in August, let alone which of TMNT or GOTG they will be going to see in theatres.
Rofl. Two problems with that. First most of those 500 people will be like 'there's a tmnt movie coming out? What?' Second most of those people will get excited until you show them the pics. Then they'll be like 'wtf is that crap.'

That's because most of them assume they'll only wear that sometimes or maybe just the final battle scene. Wait til they see that's their new standard look and they never use the classic look throughout the movie.

They look fine as variants. But not as their permanent look. Again I ask why is mikey the only one not dressed for battle?

To be honest, I think the negative buzz about the designs pretty much began and ended with the Mikey costume. The first shot of those figures seemed to cause a 180.

Nope this is not the case Most people saw the Maquette and the poster and believed that was there design added to the fact that the figures release look the same and you have a consensus was overall very positive beside a couple grips and jokes but that seem very few and far between on every other website this site seem overwhelmingly negative

This is pretty much true all around for the majority of the internet.
