Episode 7-9 will probably be better received than the prequels but people will never see them as better than the classic trilogy even if they are somehow better.

I seriously doubt they can top ESB, even if it's really good it will still feel just like a product, they will never become classics...

I thought Phantom Menace is the best. Here's how I rank them:

1. Phantom Menace
2. Return of the Jedi (nice but good God, George Lucas had to add in those godawful cartoony CGIs in the blu ray version.. I much prefer original untainted version. Reflect better for that time period's film quality)
3. A New Hope
4. Emperor's Strike Back
5. Attack of the Clones (terrible big baby acting by Anakin)
6. Revenge of the Sith (terrible big baby acting by Anakin)

edit:

Reports are coming in that the title of the new film is called ...

"The Ancient Fear"

You complain about Anakin in Ep 2 and 3, but THE PHANTOM MENACE is your favourite one? Good lord. Phantom Menace is, without doubt, the worst movie in the series by a million parsecs!

I don't think ESB will EVER be topped. It's just totally great from start to finish and I honestly think it is BY FAR the best Star Wars movie. I love all 3 originals but I just think that ESB is beyond even the awesomeness of the other 2. I could see these films being better than all 3 of the new Star Wars movies though. Episode 3 was actually the only one of those that I even liked honestly.

Are you being serious that you think The Phantom Menace is the best Star Wars movie? I'm honestly not trying to judge you or anything I'm just curious because if you believe that you are literally the ONLY person I've ever heard say that. What makes you place it above the originals and ESPECIALLY above ESB? Was it more from a visual standpoint or do you think it has a better story? Just curious is all. You have the right to your opinion.

Wish I could pick a favorite SW movie. I really enjoy the entire saga as a whole. I liked episode I as well, but for me it was due to Palpatine pulling all the strings so he would eventually be in the position to control both sides of the board during the Clone Wars. I love to hate that guy. During the big Naboo celebration at the end of the movie, you can hear a variation of the Emperor's theme playing. Of course John Williams made it sound fun and fancy free. There's something very creepy about a bunch of kids la la laing their way through a sweetie pie version of a Sith Lord's theme. "La la ,the galaxy is royally screwed. Mommy and daddy made a Sith Lord our Supreme Chancellor and we're all in for it now. What fun!" I've always wondered if that guy had the biggest smile during the parade.

I hope there are some memorable villains in the new movies. They should keep a few around for all 3 films. You get to liking a bad guy and they off him in about 10 or so minutes in some of these movies. It's more interesting if some of them live to fight another day.

Nah. George Lucas said a couple years back that JarJar died on Alderaan and was even gonna encorporate him as being a force ghost (hopefully he was joking about the force ghost thing).

It's not in the movies, so it didn't happen anymore. Even if Lucas said it.

BUT GOD I WISH THEY MADE THAT CANON!

I could see and would be ok if Jar Jar appeared in Ep. VII as this old wise guy to somehow redeem him. I doubt it'll happen though. I wonder how EP. II and III would've been if all the Jar Jar backlash hadn't happened, I still remember the first reviews of Ep. II started with "Almost no Jar Jar" "Jar Jar only has one short scene". I bet his role would've been better.

I don't care who but I'd like something from Ep. I,II and III to make an appearance in VII, if not it'll feel weird, like IV-IX and oh yeah the prequels that have no actors or characters relevant in the rest of the movies. Sure Yoda/Obi Wan but somehow I still feel like it would make the prequels feel even more disjointed.

And I don't care what anyone thinks, Episode I is my favorite Prequel. Maybe it's because I still watched Ep. I "through" kids eyes or something but I enjoy it. There's just this magic about it when I watch it, I guess I can go more about the things i like and dislike about it but that'd be another post. Ep. II and III feel more like trying to appeal to the SWs fan without actually fixing the flaws of Ep. I making them more soulless.

Pray tell why is it the worst?

I can't take Anakin seriously tbh. Everytime he talks (more like mumbling, and most time they felt forced and unnatural), throws a tantrum or cries, I laughed. He's like a big spoiled baby. Such dreadful actor.

I can list loads of things why I like it. Jarr Jarr is the only jarring (pun intended) thing I guess but I can easily overlook that.

Pros

- Duel of Fates : Most kickass epic song ever to be produced in SW history imo.

- Darth Maul > Darth Vader/Darth Sidious/Darth whatevers. He's lethal and dangerous, quick, pose a threat and look the most menacing. And he doesn't talk much or drawl or monologue on and on like the others that bores you to tears. Action speaks louder than words.

- First time ever 2 Jedis fighting together
- Liam Neeson is a great actor. When he talks I can't help but put my entire focus and attention on him. Very charismatic and gripping.

- Planet Naboo is beautiful. The city, the Palace, it's interior, magnificent.
- Costumes are excellent.

- Female empowerment with modern style: Queen Amidala. I love that ethnic style (kinda japanese makeup) and fashion she got going, very unique and sophisticated.

- Story is straightforward back to basic saving damsel in distress (but the girl is not completely helpless or useless. No, Amidala was strong), yet immersive and enjoyable for me. And I guess I'm traditional in that sense, I love saving the girl kinda story.

And I'm sure there's loads other reasons to love Phantom Menace that I've yet to cover.

Maybe we get a flashback that shows his death lol.

Ok. That's fair enough. I could see why you would like all those things. I just personally feel that ESB is the best Star Wars movie ever. I love the story and the twists and plot developments. Also we get to see Yoda for the first time. We get to see Luke learn the secret to The Force. We learn the true identity of Vader. We see Han being the most awesome space cowboy/pirate/ladies man/bad boy ever. The set pieces there are just really cool and especially the cloud city. The dialog is really great in it too. I just feel like from a pure story telling standpoint ESB is the pinnacle of the series. As far as the prequels go the only one that I truly enjoy is Ep 3. However, I TOTALLY agree that Hayden Christiansen is a horrible actor and comes off like an emo kid. I also don't like when a film tries to make the audience sympathize with ANY villain. I like a truly pure evil villain. Vader was that until they made Anakin a sympathetic figure. The whole love story thing really gets on my nerves.

Battle droids. Gungan. The useless little sh*t who plays Anakin. The insane amount of awfully written, poorly delivered, overly corny dialogue. Least interesting land/space battle in the entire series. Jar Jar's idiot f*cking antics.

I could break this down further, but I have no interest in this discussion. You're entitled to your opinion, but I can't agree with it in any way. Saying you like Phantom Menace is fine, but trying to prop it up as the best Star Wars movie because it has a handful of good moments is nuts.

The minute Vader revealed that he was Luke's poppa in Empire, he became a sympathetic character. It wasn't something the prequels did. He stopped being a weirdo robot man and became a tragic fallen hero.

I also don't think Hayden was all that bad. He just had NOTHING to work with. Sh*t script and fat sh*t director alittle unfair to pin it all on him. It's a miracle that Ewan McGregor was as good as he was.

I really don't feel that Vader became sympathetic in that moment. Couldn't you argue that he became even more evil since he was willing to kill Luke out of loyalty to the empire? Also he knew the whole time that Luke was his son and was basically trying to make him a Sith. That doesn't making him sympathetic to me. I guess it's more the CHARACTER of Anakin than the actual ACTING maybe. I just didn't like all the whiny stuff about how in love he was and blah blah blah.

Yeah, man. Vader was so pure evil. Like in RotJ when Luke confronts him about his inner conflict and he says "It's too late for me, my son" in a tone that totally feels like its full of regretful sorrow? Total evil. No sympathy at all. I needed to see him murder close friends and children, because he listened to lies being told to him by a dude he KNEW was a Sith Lord, to have any sympathy for Vader.

Heck, some of the best villains are ones who aren't truly evil, but have flawed motivations. Magneto, Demona, and others are awesome because they aren't necessarily bad, but they will go to extreme lengths to do what they think is right.

Cheers. I do enjoy ESB as well, reading how you described the movie makes me wanna watch it again when I get home later lol.

And yeah Christensen.. I don't really feel the chemistry between him and Padme. Padme worked with what she got and she came off very natural and endearing, but Anakin..the less talk about him the better.

What if I told you those good moments in Phantom Menace are far superior and much more abundant than all the other films' good moments?

You need to chillax and take differing opinion from yours more calmly rather than calling people "nuts".

The scene where he's being forced to do that by the guy that tricked him into embracing the dark side and basically was the cause of his emotional and physical destruction?

How can you not feel sympathy for a guy that was broken and pretty much turned into a trained animal by some asshole in a cloak? This is all stuff established in the original trilogy. Obi-Wan got the ball rolling in New Hope.
