Hard to tell for sure on that picture wearing the Shredder glove, but it looks different than the concept art. Extremely different.

Makes me wonder if they ARE going with that being an artifact from Oroku Saki's time in feudal Japan while Fichtner has a modernized tech-based Shredder suit.

Maybe, Maybe that's the rest of the suit behind him...

I was thinking the same thing yesterday, actually. Unfortunately yesterday was a difficult time for any sort of serious discussion.

I agree. Perhaps he has artifacts of Saki's. Like the helmet, etc. Most of it looks like something a samurai would wear in the past. Some of the suit looks very old and unusual for something that you could create today. If I had to guess, he incorporates the artifacts into the tech-suit.

That really doesn't look modern. It looks like some guy made it with metal from a junkyard.

that splinter concept art makes me sad. it gives me the impression they might've been headed in a more subtle direction at one point before someone stepped in and decided to turn everything up to 11

I wonder who?
And now we know that splinter came from lab, so i ask you then, where does japanese features come from, why does he have a japanese mustache and hair?

I mean i like the Pai Mei look

But it still doesen't make sense...
If splinter mutated with mustache and hair, why didn't the turtles? They are teanagers, they should have facial hair...

That's what bugs me most about the Splinter design. It's just so ridiculously convenient that Splinter's mutation gave him just the right sprouts of hair to grow a top knot and Fu Manchu 'stache.

that's funny you posted that pic because I was just imagining one of the higher ups looking at the concept design on saying " nope not stereotypical enough. I want this guy to look like every old wise martial arts dude you've ever seen in every movie ever. go watch part 2 of kill bill and go from there."

IDW Kevin says the movie has heavy ties into tmnt current mythos that includes IDW, SPlinter and the turtle are lab animals at STOCKGEN, which aprils father works at to create the Ooze Sound familiar?

are you talking about the movie or the comics because in the comics Aprils father did not create the ooze. he was only a research scientist studying it before he had some kind of accident. the ooze had been around for a very long time before than and came from the ultrom homeworld. also has it been confirmed he creates the ooze in the movie. apparently he was working with sachs to "create heros" but I don't think what he actually did has been revealed yet.

He was "involved" with the ooze
A tie they left in the movie, whether or not what shredder says is true, which many see to think its is. there are ties to many different sources being used through out this movie Just from the trailers alone.

Human Hair? Ok. hes got just enough to make a small topknot not a flowing mane lol you say artistic interpretation that all this movie is one artist interpretation except i would go as far as saying several artist interpretation so why does it matter?

It was just a referance he has a fu man shu mustache in several version so its not like they were trying to make him look more stereo typical, If anything they were further representing his Japanese Background by giving him a top knot a thing of Honor Samurai and Ninja wore as a badges

There's a thin line between making someting look good and going so overboard that it becomes a caricature, i think that this movie crossed that line...
