They come from the same mold, they four all make one singular fully rounded personality, they all look the same but they are not the same, and when you make them look to distinctive it kinda takes away something from that, for me atleast...

Ya I know alot of people don't like how big they are but thats a different subject. Personally I like it. I think they look cool. They've never looked like this before.

Nope? Yes its cartoonish bc its a cartoon.. You think that they exaggerate the body types too much? You think that this is trying to hard?

I respect your opinion but I disagree. The Nick show does a GREAT job with characterization imo. I think they nailed the turtles and their teenage personalities. This is one of the biggest reasons why it is such a success. Kids relate and cling to their potent personalities and I think they will with this movie as well. I mean ill be 30 in December and I thoroughly enjoy watching the cartoon. I find myself laughing at Mikey constantly. I think its cool to have them have different body builds to accentuate their personalities. I don't want dull characters in any way shape or form. But that's me

I think the Nick show does a **** job with characterisation. It remains inconsistent as to whether or not the turtles are more 'turtle' than 'human' and over-simplifies Mikey to the point of completely missing the reason he acts the way he does therefore misinterpreting the character as a whole.

I don't like the exaggerated body type and the huge eyes, either. Differing eye colours are a nice way to display each character's differences from one another, but when the pupils themselves are constantly showing or are really big, it makes it distracting. That's why I call it tryhard. To me, it feels as if the radically different physical appearances of the turtles say "we designed these guys this way because kids TOTALLY can't tell each turtle apart without MORE differences!" Which is completely untrue; children are not stupid. That's one big reason as to why I don't like it.

But going back to characterisation for a minute, I do definitely agree with you that the Nick turtles are probably much easier for kids to relate to and enjoy due to their lively nature. I just want to make that clear that I don't disagree with your entire post. Simpler characterisations are easier for children to relate to and project onto, so they're going to have more fun watching it.

But writing characters that way isn't as realistic, so it isn't what I prefer. I like the more grounded personalities present in 2k3 and to a lesser extent, the first films, but the arguement could probably be made that they're more "dull". I don't feel that way at all personally, since what I see on the screen are four teenagers with some fairly believable personalities, disregarding the fact that they're mutant turtles. Sometimes kids don't find that as interesting, though. I dunno. As a kid I certainly found the turtles in the first three films more interesting than the turtles in the 87 cartoon.

Nickelodeon is doing a superb job with the series. The way the characters are portrayed is fantastic and the voice acting is incredible, and I love the designs; the body proportions are the closest to those from the original comic and the heads/faces look both cool and more aesthetic than ever, besides they look more flexible. Finally Leo is carrying his swords comic style with both together over his shell which is much more practical than the crossed way, and he isn't as perfect as in 2003 so he won't be constantly overshadowing his brothers, though he's still the best. I'm glad Raph got rid of the accent and there's something very satisfying in watching him stab and stab enemies all over again (footbots and krangdroids, but still); Mikey cracks me up, is the first time EVER that I find him genuinely funny, mostly because he switched from trying so hard to look and sound hip based on cliches to a playful and naive kid (IS SUPER AND MACHO, LENGUA Y QUESO ). Donnie is awesome too and the way he fights with his Bo is the flashiest and coolest of his incarnations. They nailed perfectly both the daily aspects of their regular life and the serious ninja stuff, both reflected in the way they switch behaviour and eye color. The way they fight using all kind of ninja gear, takedowns, etc. is very well done too, even better than in 2003.
Though I have only good memories of the classic series and live action movies, those incarnations of the turtles where like 2003 Raph pointed out, clowns, and their personalities were the most simplistic ever. The way they "fought" was beyond ridiculous, even as a kid I could tell there was something wrong when the turtles human friend, the pizza delivery boy Keno kicked much more butt than the turtles themselves...
Let's see the new movie turtles being stealthy and invisible when they look like mutated football players on steroids covered in random and useless stuff (a native american chest plate? a mexican hippie necklace? a sweater tied to the waist? REALLY??) Leo's somersault in the trailer looks stiff and forced as hell, landing like a sack of bricks, oh yeah and Raph slamming his shell against a jeep like nothing, I fear that all the "ninja" stuff in the movie is gonna be property destruction like that.

they look like twigs. anthropomorphs that have spent over a decade doing constant martial arts training should have more muscle than those twigs. flexibility is about muscle and athleticism, and these turts dont look half as strong as the 2k3 ones

did you conveniently forget 2k3 leo had ptsd he was not ****ing perfect

he was overly critical of himself, forgot that the world didnt revolve around him, made a dumb and almost joined forces with the shredder, and had some control issues

2k12 raph's voice does not suit him at all so whatever merits the actor's performance or delivery may have fall flat

the accent was a great addition to his character and i hated to see him lose it

what the hell are you even talking about

when was "being funny" mikey's one and only purpose

he is the turtle that takes it easy because he would much rather see the good in any situation and remain upbeat. he's the aang of the turtles. jokes are just a PART of his character they aren't the entire thing

also 2k12 mikey isnt v funny at least 2k3 mikey felt much more like a teenager rather than a 12 year old

1: flashy fighting is not always practical and in donnie's case the excessive spinning is really annoying and its lazily animated a good deal of the time anyway

2: why the hell does don need to be flashy in any way shape or form this is more of 2k12's butchering of his character and making him completely unrecognisable

i dont even wanna bother with the rest of that post since no1curr about fight scenes to that detail; the fight scenes in each series reflect its theme and they're all fine as is as far as i'm concerned

For me, though, it's primarily Leo's bamboo chest armor that's utterly ridiculous and Mikey's shell necklace that's kinda silly.

That and why all four of them are wearing loin cloths....I just don't get the loin cloths, man! Well, Mikey I don't get the pants. Think that's dumb. I'd trade the pants and keep his loin cloth equivalent of the hoody around the waist. I kinda like that, actually...it amuses me.
The thing is, I don't even think he'd be able to wear that hoody. It wouldn't fit over his shell.

Main issue is, the turtles never felt the need or desire to wear extra crap unless it was for disguise purposes or 'buy the latest toy now' variant purposes. So why now?

And again the bebop and rocksteady example was a lame one since they were basically wearing the same stuff before mutation and only added a few weapons. Plus that was their design since day one. It's not like they just wore shorts and then some new movie came out and decked them out in military gear.

But again if it's such a big deal now then why weren't people complaining about mikey never wearing surfer gear or Leo using samurai armor over the past 30 years.

It's like some new movie coming out in which batman can fly and transform into a bat or something stupid like that and have the internet bombarded with idiots explaining why 'it makes sense', why 'it always should have been this way' and why 'the movie just HAD to do it this way or it wouldn't work'.

Like the other guy said, like or hate the movie in always gonna think the turtle designs were ass. They're just real horrible and now we've seen enough clips and footage to confirm it. You'd think they'd try harder since they're the MAIN characters and all.

I just want to throw this in here because I've seen it pop up a couple times; Michelangelo isn't wearing a shirt around his waist, he's wearing a surfer's wetsuit with the top half tied around his waist... which makes even less sense than any 'fashion' or 'individuality' argument.

See, I think it's ugly. The body is okay, but the shape of the head bothers me and, like you said, it has a Samuel L. Jackson thing going on. "What are all these mother****in' mousers doing in my mother****in' sewer?!"

I think it's what the new designs could have become had they gone off in the wrong direction. That said, it does resemble a turtle more.

I wonder if people would have been okay with something like this:

Have to agree with PUddinpop. Physically the Nick series isn't all that exaggerated. Don is the only one that's really a notable difference and Raph is just slightly wider, but I don't see vastly different designs amidst Raph/Leo/Mike. Don's just thinner and a bit taller and Mike's a tad shorter.

Doesn't seem too exaggerated to me at all.

As in wear it like a jacket? I dunno, they've worn jackets before. He just had to find an XXXL, that's all.

That's better. Maybe if the head had more of the classic triangle shape.
