Let's go ahead and make a TMNT movie, but forget plausibility, why bother! We're only spending millions, and, it's science fiction, so to heck with it! Big goofy lips for everyone! Bullet proof Muscle-shells! Gah... |

And sure, it's all fantasy, but still. If the plastron, which is the turtle's ribcage covered in keratin scutes shaped like the musculature of a human, why isn't the carapace the same? Why isn't the carapace's scutes simulating shoulder plates, back muscles and all that juicy stuff? Because it's a shell? So is the plastron, it's the same shell. There are some very jarring design choices in these designs. And a few interesting tidbits that's just useless knowledge. In the concept art pages on one of the printings of #1, it's shown that the Turtles was originally going to have claws, retractable claws, but to my knowledge that have never been used, but the Turtles have for the most part been depicted claw/nail-less besides a few instances, like the live action movies and the game OotS. And as for the three digit on the hands and two on the feet, it's sort of incorrect. The heel is supposed to be the third toe as the heel is extra elongated, but I don't think that is ever utilized or brought up, and only appears mostly in early Mirage art style and Lawson's art style. |

Very cool to see the book get a mention, and I'm glad that they stuck my name in there, too. That's going to move about ten extra copies of the magazine once my family hears about it.

But then... The carapace must have detached from the spine and taken the back part of the ribs with it, since the spine and ribs are fused with dermal bones to make the shell, the pelvis bones are also fused to the shell (but not on Cryptodira) so a new spine have to be grown as well as a new ribcage, cause there won't be any left of the "old" ribcage since it IS a part of the shell, the bridges are mutated to oblivion, and the plastron mutates from dermal bones and kreatin scutes into a thick layer of hide simulating the muscles of a beefcake. And if they aren't of the Cryptodira suborder, the pelvis have to snap off to added mobility, or else it would be stupid if the still where attached to the former spine that is now just a hanging carapace, stuck on the turtle by only being attached to the skin... That gotta be a painful procedure... The mutagen might have some healing abilities like the ooze in IDW ![]() Quote:
Of course it is ridiculous, we're talking about bipedal turtles. But the Henson turtles had a lot going on in them, their musculature might be similar to a humans but they are still somewhat different, be it by design or Henson Creature Shop isn't as good as anatomy as one would think. And it do boil down to taste. I personally prefer the turtles to be... Well turtles, they have a human-like structure, but they still in several incarnations hold a lot of turtle esthetics, like their limbs. The fore arms and legs are much wider then their shoulders (often depicted in Mirage and Nicktoon) which is very similar to a Slider, they have small shoulders but wider paws, and big feet. The shell is the defining feature of the TMNT as that usually is the link that they are turtles and not just Repilians, removing the shell bridge won't add flexibility, it'll just add "stupid". And make the plastron look like a fit human's torso complete with scutes shaped like abs, removes more and more of their turtle ness. Last edited by Candy Kappa; 05-23-2014 at 02:11 AM. |

The truth is that he has abbs because that looks "Cool" it's just to show you that he is the tough guy (Because muscles mean tough, right?). It's also a compensation for crappy writing, instead of writing charachter corectly they will just design him to look tough because characher depth, what's that? |

I agree with Candy Kappa. I'd prefer the TMNTs had a real carapace, with shell bridge etc. (like the Nickelodeon ones).
But I kinda like the new design, though. |

Mostly it talk about the design and how they went about figuring out the skin texture and color looking at hundreds of different reptiles, that the older design Rockport suit for mobility and expressive turtles, that they have 350 plus artists and animators, and that they talked with marine biologist and the turtles are technically teenagers

I'm sorry, guys. Nope. These designs are terrible. Ugly, overdone and unappealing on damn near every level. It's trying way, way too hard to be "bad-ass", and as a rule, I find when someone has meddled this much with the core design of something, it's a pretty big red flag that they've missed the point and appeal of the characters/concept on a fundamental level. It's my opinion and nobody else has to share it, but there is no way I'm paying money to look at these hideous things for two hours.
