It's my opinion and nobody else has to share it, but there is no way I'm paying money to look at these hideous things for two hours.

so dont? no one is forcing you to see this movie, just because YOU specifically dont like the way they look doesnt mean sh*t, ive been a TMNT fan SINCE I CAN REMEMBER and ill always love 87' TMNT and the first 2 live action films and as much as id love for them to look like they always have its OK to open up to something new

we got 2 weak ass trailers maybe because they dont want to ruin the damn movie like every other company showing everything in the trailer, if you dont like how they look then GET OVER IT, your opinion isnt bringing them back to the drawing board

....i think they look pretty cool, for a fresh new take on things...

I eased back on posting for a while because it was made clear that if I didn't love this movie, my opinion was irrelevant.

And I like to think I do a decent job of detailing my problems with it and acknowledging that I like some things, but still sometimes get the impression that isn't enough and I need to STFU and GTFO. :p

I actually joined the forum because of the IDW comics sucking me back in, then the Nick toon. Then I got drawn into paying attention to the movie.

I just don't like it how my dislike for this movie and it's existence somehow gives people the impression that I want it to fail and make everything before magically make everything better. It's that kind stuck-up elitism that while is present on both sides, I can't stand the thought of me being a part of that when my problems with this movie ranges from beyond superficial.

There is and has been nothing about this movie to gain my interest or trust for it to be worth my time. That's it. The fact that people are willing to make it a problem is pathetically stupid and they're only making their problem and not mine.

I love how you post these things... like " shhh I thinks he's gone now" WOW WHAT A REJECT HAHA THATS SO STUPID HAHAH. I guess you can call us the " Crisler's crowd" now lol. I guess it's people like me that go out of my way to find things to grip about every day.. like Yoga pants and people not fainting good enough. Bc our reasons for thinking that this new stuff is badass are totally annoying and illogical right? lol It's not like anyone has tried in recent past to explain why in a more detailed way over and over and over and over and over again, just to receive replies like
Spoiler:
from you. I'm sorry. I will try not to be so dismissive in the future ok? : ) I forgot about the fact that people have been so welcoming and understanding of other peoples opinions on both sides around here and.. I mean really all you have to do is just explain why you like something and never have to worry about being chastised for it. Ever. So it's not a giant waste of time at all. So next time ill try harder, bc I know it will get me places around here with open-minded folks like yourself : )

Found it.

Crisler's Law.
Spoiler:
The law of averages that states that sooner or later in a reason-minded discussion about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, someone will attempt to refute the entire discussion or argument with a statement equivalent to "But we're talking about four mutant ninja turtles living in a sewer!"
LMAO that's a good one. Great time to pull that one out

I guess it all comes down to taste.. not right or wrong. I guess it's people like me " bc lets be honest here, I know to whom you are referring to in those spoiler tags lol" and the " crowd" I am in only resort to this " Crisler's law" while having debates, and it's folks like you and sheep that hold all knowledge and all of the correct logical answers around here. Lets not pretend that people haven't tried in the past and have gotten absolutely nowhere, and there is a reason why people get nowhere around here while debating which anatomy/design is more " logical" .. We can sit here and go back and forth all day long with our superiority complexes while covertly doing a million google searches and reading books on plastron and turtle anatomy but at the end of the day
Spoiler:
There is nothing " reason-minded about it, "we're talking about four mutant ninja turtles living in a sewer!"
It's exhausting is what it is. Pretty sure that is what you're witnessing, fatigue. Spinning wheels stuck in mud. Every day it's something else and that's fine but it really doesn't matter anyways bc this film was " doomed " from the start regardless of how accurate or realistic these designs were. Ill just save myself some time and just... admit, that the older suits were way more " turtlish" than these retched things. They were more realistic, more logical.

Has anyone read the article that can elaborate on what Sam said?

That comment about "they're technically teenagers" caught me off guard.

Details?

ANd THATS NOT EVEN THE SAME, they looked at lion for the body movie ments how they walk moved talked even, Sure i guess they looked at the fir But i hardly doubt the animated the fur 100% like a lion, lol

These are mutated turtles and really the OG turtle dont have that realistic turtle skin either so whats your point, SO they make a step to add detail to these Character and its never good enough, I Understand being a cynic But really it getting ridiculous,

We get them talking about looking ad Actual reptiles trying to fine textures
Them talking about using 350+ animators and artist to fully develop the turtle of which is a huge fan of turtle and had a heavy hand in the designs whos a member on these forums.

Then we get info about them talking with a Marine Biologist and talking about turtles

And you still find as many hole to poke and rip open

I can't get over Mikey's lips and tattoo, and Leo's expression. Def not great promo art to show for this film, they actually look way better in the movie. They've got terrible marketing people..

It'd be awesome if they released more concept art, and maybe they did test renders with different skin textures.

Well they kinda would, wouldn't they?

That of course is not to say it isn't true to how the creators of this movie feel and went about designing the characters but that doesn't make it look better.

There's really no explanations no matter how well though out or articulated that are going to make them appealing if they feel they just don't look good.

Also I don't think throwing shade at previous designs are going to endear anyone to this movie either.

but the fact that there getting so much backlash from their decision for being so Un thought out and unnecessary is starting to turn out to be false, because its being to seem like it was very thought out and necessary.

Well you have me at a disadvantage as you've read the article but I'm guessing from what you've put it's an explanation of the faces rather than the overall designs, yes?

If so I don't think it's that cut and dry as you make out.

It is unnecessary by virtue of the fact that they didn't need to go the rout they did and several people with knowledge of movie making have suggested other ways and cited examples of the same effect being used without going the direction they did.

I personally feel that they didn't put much thought into it and went with the full motion capture rout since it's the "in" thing but lets for the sake of discussion cut them some slack and assume they really did seriously weigh up all their options and felt this was the best one...it doesn't really get around the main issue of it just not looking "good" to a lot of people.

It's nice that they've put a lot of thought and work behind this but that doesn't mean it's the right direction, does it?

"Jonathan Liebesman is going to make a great film. From what I’ve seen of the script, it’s fantastic. Michael Bay has made some great and intense movies. We’re talking about being inspired by movies like The Avengers for scope and roots origin" Which really explains a lot and is tottaly wrong direction to take TMNT in...

Lions and Tigers are cats...it fits in the same logic of looking at other reptiles

i mean if they are just going to use other reptiles as reference why even make them turtles?

ANd THATS NOT EVEN THE SAME,

no sam it is the same..if i was going to build a lion puppet, i look up pictures of Lions.....i don't just use my cat as a reference be cause they are both feline

if i was going to build a wolf puppet i wouldnt use my dog just because they are both canine..i would look up pics of a wolf

if someone is going to design a turtle they should never have checked the reptile section past turtle..the are almost countless versions of turtle species they could already use as reference

hell i do it when i make my custumes...my cosplay shell is a combination of Sea, Tortoise, and Slider

To me at least, the past designs never seemed to look much like turtles at all, at least in their faces. However, they still looked really good and were overall great designs. Although these new designs are much more human looking, they don't appear to be less turtles looking. Although I would definitely prefer more traditional designs (like the artist whose art I am using for my avatar), I do not find these designs ugly, although I definitely can see how some could find them ugly.
