What species of turtle would you choose to depict the ninja turtles as?
Box turtles. There are a lot of breeds and sub species. So many different looks and varieties.

Apparently they're all red-eared sliders.

Red-Eared Sliders of course, that's what they are in Mirage and the First Live-Action trilogy.
I love turtles, I find them fascinating and cute, but among my favorites is the RES, so it works out fine by me |

^Huh, I dunno if that's the artist's style but they do seem to be sea turtles. Kinda odd that the aquarium's environment is pretty fresh water turtle type (with ground earth, grass and leaves..), I thought it should be more sandy stuff, shells and corals, etc.
Not sure which issue that red eared slider was from though, I found it on tumblr with no reference link. |

IDW turtles being sea turtles, really is up to debate, as the tank is not suited for saltwater sea turtles, at all. As they live primarily in water, and only the females comes out of the sea to lay eggs on the beach. And it's internationally illegal to own sea turtles. And Eastman's sketches have the turtles depicted with feet instead of flippers, but they could be poorly drawn Pig-Nosed Turtles, which is a fresh water turtle that actually have true flippers.

Yup, turtles will pee on you if they feel threatened or stressed out with the situation they are in. |

Red-eared sliders 'cus it's canon. I hope later versions make it more obvious by giving them faint stripes like they had in Out of The Shadows.

I'd imagine the Don pin-up is from The Blue Hole, tales of the TMNT #18. At least the pin-up is infront of that story in the Tales of the TMNT collected volume 1.
