And yet if someone complains about the looks of the Turtles and talk about why they don't care for them, others will ridicule them and use the main argument of "Because it's More Realistic, so stop crying. This is how they'd look in real life."

So in other words, some people can't use 'the real life argument' for certain things but the 'real life argument' can be used for other stuff (like the Designs/Looks of the Turtles)?

Another idea came to my mind after reading some of the stuff here. More like another reason why I don't like Bay's Teenage Mutant Brawler Hulks.
When TMNT is regular human-sized, its make easier to see them as human-like characters. You can understand how they feel in a battle against multiple Foot Soldiers for example, who usually attack in numbers. Or how the act, when they some big (size-wise) menace. One of the aspects of TMNT, which I always like, was Turtles difference from regular superheroes. Aside from appearance they're pretty much like people, which makes them all the more relatable and interesting, personality-wise.

With Turtles being giant monstrocities, it's harder to empathize with them. It's hard to see how even MANY Foot Soldiers will pose any kind of threat to them, if Shrek'les can dispose of them with one single punch. And, if infamous Hummer scene is any indication they also have superdurability and superstrength. Basically it makes them quite similar to any other superstrong superheroes, which instantly destorys a lot of of appeal of their characters. There are pretty much like any other superhero at that point. They lose their uniqueness, and this is certainly is something, that I don't like.

Double Standards. Favorite argument of fanatics of any kind.

That's a smart, adaptable, contemporary move by the production.
There is nothing smart in diminishing quality of the franchise and turning it into generic ****. It's lazy and half-assed approach by the people who want a quick buck instead of creating something with genuine quality.

I disagree.. yea he cant change his weight but there are other factors at play.. Esp. when we're talking Ninja. Like basic decision making skills lol. It goes right back to what I was trying to say before. If it was his intention to be "stealthy" I don't think he would have jumped off of a 30+ foot tower. Not sure how high it was.. but it was high. I think it's a question of judgment. It is obvious with that scene that Mikey and Leo were not trying to be stealthy. I think we will get some " stealth " in this Ninja Turtles movie. I know ill probably get reamed for saying this but.. its is a movie.. I think some slack should be given anyway.
In other parts of the trailer they were taking out Foot members from the shadows. I assume that's how the beginning of the film will play out. All stealth and build up. I'm all for it. I remember when I used to skate.. it was all about weight distribution and foot placement. After all it is the broken bricks that some are griping about " cant believe that I'm saying this but it is what it is ", when taking all of the other factors into consideration I don't find it to be that mind boggling. I actually find this whole topic amusing. Every once and a while ill stop and think to myself.. wait lol why the hell am I talking about broken bricks lol.

it's a Hollywood brain-dead action flick. I don't expect a lot of internal consistency and remotely any logic.
I agree with the fact that this IS a movie.. but I wish there was some consistency in the griping around here. I wish people wouldn't discriminate against a film and how "logical' or "practical" it should be just bc it has the Platinum Dunes label written on it while other franchises get a free pass in this area. I don't expect it to be as brain dead as some of you expect it to be. Yea I know the second some of you see the word BAY on a film you think all intelligence goes out the window. But again he is one out of six producers. A lot of them were hand picked by Peter Laird. Walker and Mednick get TMNT. So does Kevin Eastman. I also think that you have to be somewhat of a decent writer to write the screen play for a Mission Impossible flick, but that's just me. I enjoyed Ghost Protocol.
Quote:
Michael Bay specifically? Bad Boys II taught me to not expect rational plot.
Hollywood as a whole? They made A Good Day to Die Hard.

Damn youse, Hollywood....
Thank GOD Marvel doesn't come from Hollywood lol. "Wipes sweat from forehead"
All these other superhero films are no more "logical" than this one should be. People are just picking and choosing..

Quote:
Oh, and if you think nobody criticizes the original films, you're crazy. Secret of the Ooze and III get a lot of flak, even if the original largely gets defense. Rotten Tomatoes shows the decline of general public opinion on them as well.
I am obviously referring to the forum. I've experienced it first hand many times. " Wow how dare you criticize the original film to defend this crap". People preach about tolerance but when someone else criticizes something they feel is sacrosanct or untouchable tolerance goes right out the window it seems.

Lets just say it.. only this film deserves to have every single little detail dissected, torn apart and dismissed.

Quote:
then we're also suggesting they can alter physics to suit their desire for stealth.
Lol come on man? Have you ever used a skateboard? It is not altering the laws of physics as I understand them. Mass is not the only factor in play here.

I'm pretty sure judging by the Trailer that we will see some stealth in this film. God lol you guys will go to any length to invalidate this movie. At least you acknowledge it being a Hollywood film. Or just being a movie in General. We can go threw a ton of superhero films and pick out a BILLION things that seem implausible.

Btw my friend.. you sure wink a lot lol

I'm very curious HOW the Foot manage to capture 3 of the turtles during the movie. Do they drug them? Clearly, they were getting their asses handed to them in the trailer.

My guess is Sach holds a blade to Splinter's neck and forces them to put down their weapons...

I love it lol.. You mean that "Raph smash" that sent the foot soldier... out of frame inches behind him? lol but yet people like you insist he is now floating in space somewhere lmao. That's rich. Your childish attempts to irk people by continuing to call them Shrekle's and giant monstrosities I also find amusing.

Well I'm sorry you feel that way. But you're entitled to your opinions regardless of how ridiculous they may be. I love it when people like you call this " lazy " just bc it's not the cut and paste duplicate that you want. What was it you said before? About double standards? I have never seen so many in my life.

Once again another double standard lol. I guess he is the only one hurling insults around here and that this is a one sided issue. Dude.. young lady.. whoever you are.. look around will ya. I'm sure if it were Sheep doing the name calling you wouldn't be posting this right now. Again.. if you think some of these things haven't been discussed in detail over and over and over and over again then you haven't been paying much attention

This is what it all comes down to

You don't know that though.. Why is it that people only think Sachs was speaking of the turtles when he said that he was trying to create heroes, how many different types of foot have we seen so far? With different masks on? How do we know that there aren't different ranks of Foot with different abilities.. You never know maybe some of these foot aren't human. Just a thought. No one can say that these turtles wont be challenged..

About their shells, on the mirage comics (don't remeber wich number sorry) one of the turtles get's shot at and survives because the bullet hit's his shell, and on the Archie comics all 4 turtles survive an explosion by hiding inside their shells. If that's ok then why is it so wrong that Raph crashes the humvee and survives?

And the bricks? A Giant Tortoise can weigh as much as 300 kg (660 lbs), try and drop that on a couple of bricks and see how much of those stay intact, now imagine a turtle as big as an human and do the same, the whole building should collapse on his weight.

And about the faces being like that because they are more realistic, I don't think that it's realistic as in what a mutated turtle would look like in real life and more as in what their faces would look like if they would talk and have more realistic expressions.

I'm talking about people on here and other sites/forums, who if you complain about the look of the Turtles, they literally do say 'because it's what a Ninja Turtle would look like in real life. It's More Realistic. They wouldn't look cute. They'd look Ugly and like Freaks and etc.'

Thus they use the realistic argument on that front by literally saying that. But if folks who don't look forward to the film use the 'realistic angle' in their arguments...then they are deemed 'In The Wrong'.

That's what I meant.

I've also heard the argument used for the "gear": Teens would dress to display their individuality...it's realistic!

That one is true and being scavengers and all I can see real teens doing it like they do, although no teen on his right mind would do what Donnie does on this movie... It's the only Turtle I really have a problem with design wise...

lol I too have heard that same thing. I guess wearing Trench coats wouldn't work today...even though Raph gets dressed in one in that one photo/pic and looks like a Creeper/Pervert trying to find little girls.

It'll sound silly but...then wouldn't it be more realistic for Raphael to use Guns then instead of his Sais?

Since people bring up other/past comic book issues, I do remember when Raphael used guns. Whether it be Bodycount. Or even in the Image Comics, he used guns and took care of some guys before he wore the Shredder's Armor.

So again, why not just have Raphael use guns (that he gathered from gang members, because Realistically they would have guns. Not baseball bats or chains or anything), modify them to fit his finger to the trigger, and just use those instead of his Sais?

Why not do that? Wouldn't that be more realistic in this day and age, a guy fighting crime with guns instead of Sais? And you can't complain...otherwise you just don't like Change

I do agree that a big part of the reason that I don't know how to take some of the changes they've made is down to this "real life" thing - as in, is a more realistic take what they're going for, or not? I have no idea what context to take some of the things they're doing in, as I don't know whether this movie is meant to be more cartoonish in scope, or whether we're getting the Nolan treatment on the Turtles.

I don't care either way which path they choose, I'd just like it to be consistent across the board - at least it would give me some framework to properly judge what they're doing.

That, or they wanted to be captured so they are taken to the villain's location, and they know Raph, April and Vern (should be Casey) is following them. Maybe Sachs is going to try and do with the mutagen that Magneto was trying to do in X1, make everyone into a mutant and the Turtles have to stop it.

Ugh, I'm thinking too much on this.

Are you kidding me? Being a mod makes him mature? Guy has his own agenda and it usually sides with most of the other snob like elitists on here. Hell, he essentially protects them. It's not very hidden either.

You literally have people making arguments that it isn't plausible for the turtles to be large, muscular beings and still have ninja abilities. When the very context of the argument is fictional mutated, humanoid shaped turtles.

Oh, and muscular plastrons is blasphemous departure of reality in terms of how they would mutate. Or them having lips. But it's totally fine that their bone structure completely alters to mimmic humans in the first place.

We all know these stuff is fake but this is not the discussion.
The discussion here is how fake can some one take.
Anthropomorphized animals have been around since forever which is why a turtle standing up and having human-like physique is not that strange, but when you start going further and further into either side then stuff may end up looking strange to some folks.

The turtles should have wings under their carapace, cause it's cool. And it's totally just fantasy anyway.

And wolverine claws, cause it's kewl
