I don't think I can tolerate a Russian accent coming out of an established character like Rocksteady.

If they wanted to make a Russian mutant they could have just come up with an all new character like they do with all the other new mutants.

There's nothing wrong with Russian accents, I just don't want Rocksteady to have a Russian accent.

Russian accents in kids cartoons are usually terribly done and forced anyway. They're always stereotypical too saying things like, "Da." all the time.

Da means "yes" in Russian. Nyet means "no."

Most shows with Russian characters constantly say "Da" and "Nyet" even when speaking in english.

I don't remember the general doing that. I doubt he's gonna suddenly start saying 'da' after mutation. Again, a closer look at rocksteady does show him lookin kinda old there. Bebop def looks way younger.

I don't think the general is Rocksteady. This reminds me of when people thought Fon would be Bebop because they both have the similar skinny design with long legs.

Hell some people thought Xever would become Bebop because of the re-used CG assets on the long legs. See? That just proves they like re-using CG, not that any character will be the same.

I'm in Japan. Some people here, even when using English with me, may sometimes use "ne" at the end of some sentences. It's pretty usual, but I guess if you grew up outside of the country, maybe you wouldn't so much. They also use "ka na" a lot, even when speaking English, despite the phrase being Japanese. I've just gotten used to it....but I also have developed the habit of using "tabun" a lot, even when speaking English. I dunno.

Oh and yeah, you're right. "Dah" and "nyet" do mean yes and no. It's been a long time since I've ever heard anyone speak any kind of Russian or have ever come across it in media....unless Linka from Captain Planet counts or those old Warner Bros Wartime cartoons, which don't count anyway given that they were making fun of the Russians, Italians, Germans, and the Japanese, as they were all enemies of the US during that time.

That aside, I don't think it would bother me very much if they gave him such an accent, if he is going to mutate from this guy. If he is going to become Rocksteady, I'm curious as to how and why he would.

Except the cgi isn't reused. Rocksteady looks like the generals brass knuckles melted onto his own knuckles. The spiked shoulders are also different but based in that design. And he's using the hammer straight out of the design on the knuckles. Plus this looks like an older gruffer rocksteady. I'm 99% sure it's him and we'll see him hire Anton to steal shredders helmet tomorrow.

I know they're lazy but were never seen other characters using Aprils fan or wear Karai's jacket. They're not that bad. Yet.

You really are overreacting, Cubed... it's not That bad. I think it's a great turn of character for Rocksteady. Everything doesn't have to exactly match the old toon... it's a new show, after all!

If people don't remember what he sounded like, rewatch "Enemy of my Enemy". That is when Shredder does the arms deal....

I'm honestly surprised he's not flipping his **** because bebop is now a high tech thief skilled enough to steal shredders helmet instead of a street thug. Oh no! How dare Ciro change something from the old cartoon????

Erm, well....maybe the clothes just looked similar. I kinda wish they had more background people in this show in general. It's New York, the city that never sleeps. There just isn't enough activity going on for NYC and I guess it's because they decided to do the show in CGI.

if the russian arms dealer is rocksteady then I have no problems with him having a russian accent... but I do kinda have a problem with them aging him up. B&R are both 'young goons' that's how they get swindled into becoming mutants. I like that they are kinda on the younger end of the spectrum, similar to the turtles so they make good counterparts.

meanwhile, newtralizer, rahzar and fishface all seem a bit older than the turtles. maybe not a lot, but they don't seem like teenagers or early 20-somethings.

Now, it seems like with Bebop he is still a youngish guy pre-mutation. But this arms dealer seems roughly as old as Shredder. He even says to shredder during the arms deal "What's wrong, don't you trust me? We're old friends"
