If Donnie kicked, or lifted it causing it to flip. Go ahead. HULK TURTLEZ it up, but that's not what happens.

I'll buy his 'Anti-physics bo' the same way I buy that he's an 'mutated anthropomorphic turtle who is trained by an anthropomorphic rat'.

There WILL be a degree of suspension of disbelief in this movie. This will not be super grounded, nor should it. This will not be super realistic, not should it. It should LOOK real, as it seems it does. But as long as it all works within the confines of this, their own universe, I'm there.

Set the 'rules' up and follow them though. If the Bo breaks in half the next scene against a Foot's shin. I'll be bitching like the next guy. But if this is how his new and improved Bo works, and they stick with it (heh), then I'm game.

I'll already take this one scene over 'Inflatable Punching Bag Donatello beating up a foot with a foam bat'.
Ok I laughed hard at this line

That scene had nothing to do with strength at all. The momentum of the car is what lifted it up, not Donnie.

Example (the person being the car ):

All he had to do was place the bo in a specific spot on the car and on the ground and voila! If anything this is a scene where brains are used over brawn.

But you know what I mean right? If it's a pimped out Bo, it better stay pimped out. No shenanigans where it can do awesome things one scene then becomes just a stick the next. If it stays like that, I'm good. I can accept it.

So that's the shot I mentioned months ago in an earlier thread. I'd post a link but the thread was locked.

When I saw it, the cut was different, and it looked like he flipped the truck himself. Can't say for certain if the shot was changed, we only watched the sizzle once, but everyone thought the same at the time, as there were many WTF's muddered.

Let's just say there were all kinds of confused people in the room, not to mention other disturbing revelations...

The Bo makes a little more sense, I guess.

Great example, and that's EXACTLY what people need to understand. This has particular aspect has nothing to do with "Donnie SMASH!".

I might find it absurd but I won't argue with consistency. If he can do things like lift a truck shoot knives/missles and use it as a USB I won't complain so long as hitting the Shredder's armor or it breaks when he swings too hard at an enemy. Those glasses need to go everything else I can ignore but those.

Average human weight: roughly 175 pounds.

Average weight of a pickup truck: roughly 6,000 pounds. (And potentially much more if this is a military vehicle like the Humvee BayRaph demolished with his shell.)

That must be one seriously strong stick.

well batman I believe used a souped up motor cycle and what I assume was some kind of high tensil strength cable for his. Donettellos move looked like he used his own strength to pry up on the staff and flip it. I watched that clip a few times and admittedly I might be wrong because it was a little small but that what it looked like to me.

I find it funny listening to people come up with all these commentd about the movie and the cartoons did the same thing.

And all this talk about "a certain level of realism"... to me its either real or its not. You cant sit here and critique things that are unrealistic but accept others...well, you can it just makes no sense...
I think it's more that people don't expect realism from cartoons as much as they do from live action films. Not choosing sides here, but when people associated with the movie and defenders of the movie are saying that these are "realistic Turtles", it kind of sets people up to expect a semi-realistic world to go along with it... otherwise it seems a little inconsistent.

I think the OP's right - it's better to just think of this as a live-action cartoon. Regardless of the creative team's intent, trying to interpret any of this movie as realistic is just setting ourselves up for disappointment. It could still potentially be enjoyable on a cartoon/larger-than-life level, so I don't think that it really takes away from anything to think of it that way. If other people still want to take it seriously, that's up to them... but I think in the long run, it won't really hold up.

Just IMO.

Haha debating movie logic. someone call the mythbusters.

I love donnies expression when He flips it, He looks surprised that it actually worked. Plus I think he says something along the lines of "I always wanted to try this" and then flicks a switch on his bo staff. I assumed when the designs came out that with all that tech on him it gives him batman esq abilities. which is cool.

Wait a minute here, for every version of Donnie this is how he made his inventions and tech. So he's shouldn't be able to do the same because it's a movie?

So a mutant rat can train mutant turtles to be crime fighting heroes, but Donnie can create things out of scrap? Is that the "logic" we're going with?

Doesn't just about every comic book movie have elements of what some are proposing to be illogical?

brain...not brawn

Donnie used physics - as someone mentioned in another thread, he used his staff like a pole vaulter.

After extending his staff, he wedged the bottom tip into a stone firmly embedded into the mountainside, and the truck's momentum did the rest...

i was trying to be funny. im totally onboard with Donnie's staff. and his tech.

for me, mutant turtles who are trained as shinobi, automatically requires a suspension of disbelief.

not at all I just prefer it to be more about being better skilled than just natually better than the other guy. It kills the underdog aspect when you physically outclass your opponents

I am sorry.

I'm with ya i feel like all comic book movies have this element. I just dont understand why so many are holding this film to a different standard.
