1. Donnie's bo staff made of metal and not wood.
2. It is retractable.
3. Trailer shows him using a button to open the staff. Could require a heavy spring for mechanism.
4. Donnie says, " I've always wanted to try this" as to show he intended it to be strong enough to flip a vehicle or lift something heavy.
5. Momentum of vehicle + retractable metal bo staff with button mechanism that was intended to have a very heavy spring that was strong enough to lift a vehicle or something heavy = logical movie premise.

Could I be missing something that would otherwise get me to think that in this films universe this is logically fallacious?

I think the biggest thing to remember right now, is that this is first and foremost a kids movie. Kids aren't really worried about physics as much as they are cool sh*t.

Of all the things to nitpick about... seriously, I think Donny's use of his staff in that scene was pretty cool. I'm fully expecting we'll see him do a lot of this kind of stuff in the film: use his brains and gadgets to accomplish things over his physical ability. That's what he's known for, right?

I'm not a physicist... BUT, it's not like the vehicle hit an immovable rod. His weapon has flex to it. If his bo had no bend on impact maybe it would have impaled the vehicle or broke, but since it has flex it was able to catapult it. Also it depends on where the impact took place.

In the end... films often take a more "romantic" approach to events in order to get events to play out in a more interesting way. Nothing at all new about this! I get that people want to try to examine why something could/couldn't actually occur, that can make for some interesting discussion... but for me personally? I just want to see cool stuff happening

You missed one little thing, it's nothing really, very small, probably not important.
It's a ****ing truck! There's nothing you can do to explain it...

And that is why I enjoyed the first films so much.. enjoyed a lot of things so much..
My brothers and I.. We were kids.. minds wide open. We didn't go in with a note pad and pencil ready to pick apart everything and anything.. not one ounce of cynicism or skepticism.. at least I didn't.. We enjoyed it for what it was.. a movie about the TMNT. Imo.. most kids could care less about the Boom Boom M. Bay and all of the other negativity that goes with it. But of course.. I cant speak for all children..

Thumbs down

Why is everyone complaining about the freaking physics? what is so crazy that it is out of physics?! what donny did was use some type of gadget and flip the car over. why is that out of physics?!

What i mean is why are some of you acting like this could never possible ever happen, i'm sure in real life there are things that can flip cars over, it's what Donatello does he freaking builds things!!, he didn't flip that car over he used something he built and activated it and the car flipped over, he was probably ready to test it Or maybe Splinter never let him try it, that's why he said 'Always wanted to try this.

I can't believe you guys are talking about physics...... really look at most CBMS for example,
BTW it's not like the car flipped into Space or anything, again Nitpickers are nitpicking the smallest freaking things.

BTW this thread was not needed.

I wonder if he uses it for other things? Like in other fight scenes. That same button?
It'd be cool if he points that at someone's head and pushed the button
I know that Mikey has a three section staff.. I hope he does in the movie and its not just a toy thing. I cant wait to see the using these weapons.. its been SOO long since we have.. in a live action film anyway

This is a kids movie?
I thought this was going to be the standard Michael Bay PG-13 thing.

All of the Transformers movies are kids movies too. Think about the subject matter.

Kids go see standard M. Bay films all the time.. even though this isn't one lol..
Fortunately this movie with pull in kids/teenagers and adults ranging from 19-40's.

The other day i drove over a stick that was on the road and it didn't rupture my gas tank or anything it just threw me 200 meters in the air and back on the road. Even if it was the strongest stick on the planet there's no chance in all 9 layers of hell that that's physically impossible..
It brakes every law of phisycs known to man...
It's stupid and doesen't make sense.

If it's any consolation, I'm also warped - and should have gone to bed half an hour ago!

Basically PD Don's weapon is a metal staff-like contraption in the Hanbo length, with a spring feature to give it a Bo length. Apparently traditional Bo isn't good enough for Hollywood, but, that's understandable when it's so often in various media depicted to break often since it's made of wood. Cause "lol wood breaks."

And, there's no need to refer a Bo as a "Bo staff", it's like writing "staff staff"

wouldn't that just like brake the stick? Because you know, it's hollow. or just push the stick into the ground? Someone call Mythbusters...

I think the scene would have been much better if the truck got tipped to it's side by the staff's pressure, being launched up looks just... Too cartoony.
