Well...personally I prefer the making tails like they do in Mirage comics. But, with the mutating away toes and fingers, why would they still have a tail?

I'd suspect, on a logical level. The turtles would have kept their tails because they have their cloaca through their tails. But, that's probably more delving into the anatomy of a humanoid turtle then the movie makers ever did.

I often wonder how Splinter goes to the bathroom with that tail of his. You can't tell me it doesn't get in the way.

And in that scene, it does look like he has a tail. That's pretty cool.

I dunno, can't believe I'm taking screen caps of Raph's ass, but having doubts about tails.

In one clearer frame I got it looks too light on my screen and doesn't seem to match Raph's coloration, and it doesn't seem to be affected much by the shadows if at all... Tried Photoshop's auto adjust levels/contrast (in spoiler below), and only that, to take out that typical movie filter tone and I'd almost be more willing to believe he split in his undies (were he wearing something white underneath the red), but even then I question the lack of shadow. I mean it does appear to move with him through a few frames, soo... I dunno. Tail? Split in his drawers? Tower debris? Render glitch? Hmm... (Maybe someone else can have better luck with the highest YouTube resolution, it lags on me to much to catch that same frame. The 720 was what I got it with.)

I never checked this thread, just thinking it was the scene where they're training as kids looked like Raph might have had some sort of underwear on (I'd laugh seeing the young turtles in superhero underoos).

But, no.....they put the actual full TMNT Raph in wrestling trunks. And it makes it look like the shells don't cover...who am I kidding, the plastron is just a different shade of skin for them to have Calvin Klein physique shaped musculature.

I may be actually looking forward to seeing this from the trailers' vibe, but I will never understand the design. I think Leo was right on the first page...so much cocaine when they were brainstorming.

Given the configuration of turtle anatomy and how everything pretty much comes from the same place- I'd have to say sit. The cloaca contains both the anal and urinary tracts, which for some reason is separate from the genitalia, so I don't see how they could do it standing up. Unless that changes in mutation and becomes more like a human's- but I doubt it. That's a VERY radical alteration of some basic biological functions that work very differently between human and reptile. Seems simpler to keep the functions separate and not tinker too much with the inner plumbing. But that's just my take....

Well, they DO live in a sewer, but it's the drainage part (supposedly) not the actual waste part. So I'd HOPE Splinter would teach them not to use their home like it's a latrine!

I've wondered that myself. Maybe since he's a mammal he can stand up? Except for the "#2" part, which I'm guessing he squats for. Then again- rat droppings..... That's all I'm sayin'.

I called it when that shot came out. I thought they looked like boxing trunks, too. I was thinking Raph must have liked the Rocky movies, cause I think they're even the same color/pattern!

I just got the movie figures yesterday and as I looked upon their shells, it seems they were raised a bit higher (compared to the previous turtles versions where their shells cover their butts). So they do have asses in this movie version which enables them to wear underwear and pants.

I have the weird feeling that Bay wants us to see the turtles in a suggestive way.

One of the reasons humans wear clothing is to cover private parts and the fact that they wear clothes suggests the need to cover. Despite them always being wearing nothing. Mirage they always had nothing on ( including their masks) when they were home, so what clothing had is only ninja gear. For Fred Wolf they always ( with exception to their disguises) wore their mask mostly so we can tell apart without their weapons. Not really sure about 4Kids but for the Nick series it seems like people were really excited for them to show Donatello and Michelangelo mask-less. Something unusually naughty. A missing cloth and some belts can a significance difference.

This turtles having more human-like faces works as benefit for the actors to emote through facial expressions which could help their overall performance. Which makes me think they plan on some more emotional scenes.

To me they’re a tad too big for my liking and they’re kinda ugly in the face area and but that’s mostly from the uncanny valley look they have. Human like lips and eyes. The plaster also resemble a muscular man’s chest.

This all comes together with Megan Fox saying that her first crush was on Michelangelo that want to see them like that and promotion with # Team Raphael, # Team Donatello,etc resembles Twilight thing.

I feel very insane for coming to this conclusion. Would someone prove me wrong because I rather be wrong.
