Obviously I do care about the franchise, I'm just realistic. The main draw is it's a story about four mutated turtles and their surrogate rat father. It's not that complicated.

Who knows? Maybe they'll add him in a sequel.

From what I gather from all this info, The origin in the movie is different from all incarnations. But the fact to the matter is, Each incarnation has been different in how they tell the story.

Being someone with an open mind, I been a fan of every single iteration of the TMNT since its inception, I don't stick to one version, Whatever version they put out there, I will support it.

There is plenty to see. Most of the spots/trailers have been cut differently than how they play out in the film.

Is Saki/Shredder just a background character who Sachs talks to in the shadows, or does he have a bigger role outside of attacking the turtles in the armor?
Spoiler:
No. Shredder is the only one who attacks the turtles. Sacks has no interaction with them (other than light experimentation).

It makes zero sense how Splinter is a ninja master though. HTF could he not have any ties to Hamato Yoshi?

I'm curious, Is April's father in the movie name. Kirby? Just like in the Nick series.

That's pretty much the general consensus from casual TMNT fans. This franchise biggest draw is it's weirdness and sense of humor about itself and the superhero genre/pop culture.

It really should never try to compete with properties like Batman and Spider-Man because it doesn't have the same legs. TMNT is on it's own pedestal and it excels when it doesn't take itself too seriously.

That's what I don't understand. If anything, for someone to say I'm not a fan of the franchise because they are blind to this, it's a bit absurd.

I see no reason why they can't expand in future films, but I think adding more substance to that very particular arc would be redundant as the film establishes their feelings for one another. Even Shredder mocks the relationship in dialog.

Hey man, it's cool...don't let people attacking you stop from answering all of our questions. Some people just need to blow off some steam and then get knocked out by the Foot.

The more I'm thinking about the elements of this film and how things may have been added later on makes me wonder if this was a movie that just had too many rewrites and "cooks in the broth" so to say. Perhaps this isn't the right thread for this, but if they're really going to disregard so many important elements of their history...I wonder if they really did have a plan to completely change their origin all together and after all of the general public and ESPECIALLY fan outrage, they realized they didn't have something tangible on their hands by going with their original story.

Yet, they wanted to keep some elements in there because they liked it...all while adding in things fans just desire to see. I don't know, we'll have to see. I'm all for original tales as long as the characters are true to who I know and love. While sure it would be fantastic to see the Eastman and Laird pages jump off the screen and while I think that would make for an excellent film (I'm looking at you Del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn) that doesn't seem to be the case with what we're getting. I do think I need to control my hype and not let it over take me when it comes to the movie.

I just got to remember to enjoy myself....isn't that why we go see movies in the first place?

Bingo. I'm the same way.

They get the characters of the turtles decently enough and their back and forths? They can go ahead and do what they want around it. Cool with me.

Because it ultimately matters very little?

It's quite possible his name is "Guy who is super dead". They MAY have given him a name, but nothing memorable, and certainly not Kirby. That would have caught my attention.

IDW is the best version of TMNT

If they make a TMNT reboot movie retelling the shredder battle/origin, I won't buy a ticket.

Yes and no. I would say the IDW series might be the biggest influence, then the Nick show.

They pretty much go right after each turtle's stereotype, which the Nick show does as well.

No that's not what I meant, what I meant is does SAKI have a big role in the film, or is he just in a few scenes?

He is a bastard child left behind from the Vietnam war. Shredder took him into the Foot Clan. While I do understand Vietnam is a different location, the father might have been stationed on leave in Japan? That part escapes me a little bit, but that is the basic gist of it.

Shredder is Saki. He pretty much spends the majority of the action sequences beating the **** out of the turtles.

I don't know, I think how the characters are portrayed is definitely important but I think the story of how they got there is important, too. I mean, when it's a story most people who are fans are already aware of, why change it just to change it? Especially - and this is my big issue - when you know, for a fact, that some people ARE going to be upset about it. Why divide your audience, on purpose? Disregarding my own personal feelings, it's just a questionable business strategy to force choices you know are going to be controversial, and then tell people to "deal with it". It would have been simple enough to leave the basic origin story alone, or maybe just incorporate some new pieces into it without wiping the slate entirely and starting over, and therefore please everyone, thus ensuring more people buy into it. Seems kind of common sense to me.

Again, we can agree to disagree, I guess, but this all reinforces my opinion that this movie was developed by the wrong people, and that even if it's good, it probably would have been better if almost anyone else had made it.
