The fact that I'm 44 years old and on a TMNT message board obviously shows that I was a fan of the original and was around when Mirage #1 hit the market. And although there were years where I didn't follow TMNT, I was always most familiar with those early Mirage issues and the OT cartoon. Those toys were great and I have an "almost" complete collection of them now. But if I had to sit down and watch a TMNT episode, I would pick a Nick episode over an OT episode every time. That doesn't make the Nick toon better, but in my opinion it certainly is.

None of the revamps would be in existence if not for the original taking off.

Absolutely correct. I don't think anyone is debating that. Still, being the original, doesn't in fact make it "better". BUT... both cartoons are based off of a comic book that existed before either of the toons. Again, not sure what your point is. Does the new toon owe a debt of gratitude to the old one? Sure. It pays homage to the original one quite frequently. Being a fan of the old toon makes me really appreciate seeing things like Bebop and Rocksteady joining the show, but if the Nick show did none of that and used totally original characters such as Tiger Claw, I would still love the show just as much.

My point is you will never see any 2k3 or 2k12 figures in a classic collection set ever, they're just revamps. Case closed, the originals from '88 to '93 were the greatest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle figures thus far. The NECA comic figurines come close, but the expressions on their faces look too manufactured and plastic. I'll never forget how their facial makeup of the '88 turtles matched their characteristics. Everyone had to grab them in 1990, including adults and teenagers.

It's also the opinion of MANY fans out there that the NECA turtles are THE best figures ever made! That's what's great about opinions...everyone has one.

You have way more adults collecting things like "toys" now than you did back then. Even though I was an adult collecting toys in the 80's, it was not as widely done back then as it is now. And that is the reason why vintage toys hold a higher value than toys today (for the most part)...because those toys back then were bought by kids and opened to play with. You didn't have as many ADULTS buying them and keeping them carded as you do now. Back in the 70's the MEGO dolls and STAR WARS figures were almost completely bought by kids or for kids. You rarely had adults buying stuff to keep them carded, which is why lots of those figures can go for hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Sure, there were adult collectors then, but not like there is now.

Does VH1's silly little show mandate what actually was and wasn't a billion dollar industry or how popular it is/was? And if it's not mentioned by VH1 then it's "pointless"?? The POINT IS that millions of viewers love the show, millions of people love the toys and other memorabilia. Your reasoning is getting more and more off-base as this conversation goes. And while we are discussing VH-1's little show (which is far from relevent by any means...I couldn't even tell you when I last saw VH-1)...should they do an "I love the 2010's" they may or may not mention the nick toon. But can you tell me what cartoon they would reference during this time-frame that has more of an impact on marketing? Name a cartoon that has as much shelf-space as the Turtles currently have in Target and Walmart (the nations 2 biggest chains)?

I get it.... you like the old show and toys, you don't like the new show and toys. Totally understandable. You aren't alone. I don't have a problem with that. I love the old, the 2k3, the 2k7, and the Nick era. I love Mirage, Archie, and IDW (I'll refrain from mentioning Image...haha).

Found Donnie the Wizard at Walmart yesterday and found Mikey the Elf/Raph the Barbarian today. I didn't pick up the Ooze Turtles when they first came out. But I'm a completionist so I'm trying to find them all. Thus I was surprised to Ooze Raph today. I've been seeing Ooze Leo and Ooze Mikey everywhere lately. However the Raph did not come with Mutagen like Leo and Mikey did. I also haven't been able to find Slash anywhere. I found Rahzar, Newtralizer, and Dojo Splinter, but no Slash.

Hang in there.. you'll find him. It's been my experience that NO figure to date has been that hard to find. If you ever need help with a Slash, let me know. I could pick one up for ya. Always willing to help out a fellow collector.

Some fans of the Mirage series censured the '87 cartoon from '89 into '90. I guess the look on the '88 Leonardo figure never leaves my mind. I'd put it up there as one of the greatest a action figures ever. Why was it so lovable? Part of the charm to that Leonardo was that it had a head structured like an actual turtle. The Nick relaunch Leonardo looks too much like a Martian. As the '87 Donatello put it, "That's a fact, Jack".

I really like the turtle variants "mike the elf" "Donnie the wizard" "raph the barbarian" "Leo the knight" ! as for old vs new, both are cool. I never got into the 2k3 series so can't speak for that. You also have to remember with online purchasing, you don't have stand at the door and wait any longer. The new turtles are very popular with kids today. Everywhere I run into a kid they all love turtles. They get real excited when they find out I am a turtle fan.

I'm looking for Nick April. Should have bought her when my stepson was asking for her, but I was too concerned with the turtles and the big bads, now that I've given in to his request she's harder to come by than Slash, Newt, or anyone else and I refuse to pay the eBay/Amazon price-gouger's cost.

There is only one Turtlemania and that's the one from 1990.

I understand that shell heads want Turtlemania to return, but it hasn't. You're right, I shouldn't take it so seriously, but I do.

Back on topic, why didn't they do another Viking Donatello over the Wizard one?
