The bottom line is that as soon as I dared to say what I did about rocket, he took it personally by going as far as telling me to not diss him. I was doing okay until he said that to me. I found that comment from him disrespectful towards me.

I've had to start using a tragic amount of emoticons in recent times just to make sure my intent was clear. Shame.

Character wise, I think that Thanos was the best thing about the movie. Cherry Bomb is the only good song from the soundtrack, everything else from it was crap.

Spoken like someone who never lived through the era of "The Pina Colada Song". The soundtrack was actually spot-on, as I knew most of the songs (Cherry Bomb!! Hooked On a Feeling!!) and more importantly, they FIT the tone and vibe of the movie. (And it WAS Quill's mix tape, after all. He's a child of the 70's and 80's, obviously.)

Seriously, dude, lighten up. It WAS a great movie. I LMFAO'ed (very quietly, of course) through half the movie! Yes, the jokes were often cheesy, and Rocket and Quill were D*cks, but that was INTENTIONAL. I got the jokes, and LOVED the characters. (And I can't imagine taking a kid to see this movie- really, this was the most "adult" Marvel movie to date....) My question is- what's your problem with Rocket?! He's small and not very strong; what kind of a fighter did you EXPECT him to be??!! He's a ballistics expert, obviously- even I could figure that out, and I'm a long-time Marvel fan who knew almost NOTHING about him!! (My Marvel "expertise" tends to be in the Earth-based heroes.)

Yeah, he didn't need to be strong, because he had Groot around, and Rocket himself was really intelligent.

I don't hate the movie, but I also don't love the hell out of it. The truth is that the movie had flaws that prevented it from being better than it was, well at least in the minds of some folks, this is coming from someone who has liked just about all the movies that Marvel Studios got off the ground. I honestly thought the soundtrack was basically hot garbage. Just wasn't my cup of tea. Look, I like my fictional comic book characters when they are likable, not rude. I don't condone people insulting others for nothing, as for Rocket, he didn't have to be strong. I would have liked him a little better if he could some how put up a fight without relying on a gun or groot. S****y humor does not a good movie make, and this one in particular, had too much of it. Which made it worse.

I started out not caring at all because I never even heard of GotG until they announced it was gonna be a movie, but it looks like something I might enjoy and feel kinda bad I can't go see it.

Lack of disposable income, my good man. Had to abruptly switch car insurance companies and that took an unexpectedly large chunk out of our August budget, along with some general repairs. There's also some wrestling seminars coming up that are much more important than any movie.

It's cool, DVD's are cheap, I'll see it soon enough.

More GOTG box-office news:

Quote:
James Gunn's offbeat superhero tentpole had the best Monday showing of the summer save Memorial Day, and has raced past the $100 million mark domestically.

Marvel Studios and Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy grossed a whopping $11.7 million on Monday, the best showing of the summer, save for Memorial Day. It's also the best Monday gross for any Marvel title outside of The Avengers ($18.9 million).

Awwwww, bummer! Car insurance is a huge pain in the ass. There's always the discount theaters in a few months so you can still catch it on the big screen!

ESPECIALLY considering that that is something that happens all the time in the comics, and it's always shrugged off. Rocket is really the only one who gets even slightly worked up when that happens, and even then it wasn't to the degree it was portrayed in the movie. I mean, it all comes down to the fact that in the movie universe that has never happened before, but they saw an opportunity there to exploit that for some added emotional punch, and it totally worked.
