Has anyone seen what the GotG marketing has been like post-release? I honestly don't watch that much TV, but I wonder what they're doing to maintain their momentum going forward.
Disagreeing is one thing being gleeful because a handful of critics agree with you is something else.

From you? This is a joke right?
Also, just checked the RT site - scrolled through pages of "not interested".
I've also read all the reviews posted, and even the positive ones find it hard to say anything good, with most giving it just enough to earn a fresh rating.

I think you're missing the point. We're fans too. No ones happy that the movie is garbage. It's actually why I'm so angry.

Most of the negative reviews reads like most of you guys wrote them. I tell ya if this movie does well I would hate to see what the basement looks like on Monday.

You do know the first TMNT movie doesn't even crack 50% on RT?

And you wonder why people attack you.
Don't worry, you can explain to us on Monday how everyone else is wrong, and it really is a good movie.
Oh, and my condo doesn't have a basement, but it does have a tennis court.

Seriously? Honestly?

Wow you got a few screw loose champ. The revelation about you and your buddies going after me is a hoot one I don't back down from you clowns I might not reply because I got other things to do than waste an afternoon fighting about a movie most of you guys are going to see anyway. Two I just find it funny you guys all of a sudden care about movie critics' opinions when the other turtles movies got panned by those people. Lastly you confused me when someone who actually care about what other people think I don't care what some intern at Cinema Blend thinks and I don't care what some cheese ball on Twitter thinks either at the end of the day my opinion of the movie counts because I'm the one buying the tickets and investing time sitting in a theater.

Champ? Ok Chump. I can use stupid words too. Let's all do it! Yay!
Whose after you Spanky? Kid you got issues. Listen Bud, I could care less how you spend your money, so if you're that intent on blowing it, go on! Child, the reviewer is warning you of danger! Danger! You will be disappoint!
You got that Son? Leave the herd, ya heard?

Meh... Google says that the correct term is flock, not herd...

Lol... Sorry, I'm all outt'a condescension. Honestly, I thought maybe you were reasonable, but player, you wanted to step...lol...I can't keep this up.

Be mad bro, enjoy.

That paragraph could be spoken word-for-word, straight from the mouth of the kids that live next door to me. Tragic.

Let's get back on topic here since I want to post my opinions. First off, since there is some momentum provided by the Nick series with some marketing along with some legacy value, there will be at the least a respectable opening weekend of at least $50 million. It won't be as good as GoTG's, but I wouldn't be surprised if it got in the $70-$80 million range. There is a slight chance (around 20%) that the movie I'm afraid fails to hit #1 its opening weekend based on GoTG's momentum, but it's probably not going to happen. Post-release marketing will be important, but we'll be hitting mid-August which is traditionally the beginning of a slower season at the box office due to kids heading back-to-school along with the lack of big attractions to pull moviegoers into alternate choices. Unlike the 1990 film which had a five-week run at the top before being topped by Pretty Woman (when it had reached just shy of $100 million), today's world of course means faster dropoffs, and ultimately by Labor Day weekend (the fourth weekend and NOT a big box office weekend traditionally unlike Memorial Day) this movie may barely cling on in the Top 10. Still, I feel that the final tally should be around $120-$140 million domestically and around $225-$250 million worldwide, a mild hit but by no means a "blockbuster" in today's terms. Just not enough favorable reviews and mainstream word of mouth for it to last I'm afraid.

PS: I actually decided not to look at any other opinions (including Box Office MoJo's) before I posted it, and after checking, my opinions come reliably close.

I'm always entertained by how much difficulty people seem to have understanding RottenTomatoes. Literally had to explain the site to someone last week who was accusing RT of dishonesty saying "They always give movies a certain rating when the first few reviews come out and then as more reviews come out they change their mind and lower the score."

Like... Yeah. Site is working as intended. RT doesn't review movies. It just collects the ratings of critics. Hell, it doesn't even collect their scaled ratings, it converts them into a binary rating and rounds up a percentage.

Probably $35 million opening weekend, but will struggle to hit $100 domestic. It'll do great international numbers, though.

Looking forward to seeing it on Thursday.

Also, here are the top grossing films that never reached No. 1 in North America and its an impressive list. I completely forgot that Casino Royale did not debut at the top spot back in 2006.

This week's Weekend Warrior from ComingSoon:

Quote:
With Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy doing far better opening weekend than anyone expected, it's looking like the four movies opening this weekend will be settling for second to fifth place at best, as it should pull a solid repeat even with the typically larger summer movie second weekend drop-off. The movie with the best chance for second place is the Michael Bay-produced reinvention of the popular ‘80s cartoon and comic characters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Paramount), starring Megan Fox and Will Arnett, which hopes to kick off a new franchise ala Transformers and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
Their prediction for TMNT's box office:

Quote:
Even so, when you combine the kids and the adult fans, you can figure on a solid opening of $35 million, but once the older fans are gone just leaving it to kids, it might have difficulty scraping its way to $100 million especially with audiences being given plenty of other choices in coming weeks… like going back to school.
Their predictions for the weekend:

1. Guardians of the Galaxy (Disney/Marvel) - $44.5 million -53%

2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Paramount) - $35.2 million N/A
