Exactly. Every time UPROXX or Comicbook.com post something on facebook about TMNT, especially something good, the comments are filled with people who are all "but...but Gaurdians!"

I've never heard of GotG before (as a comic). I'll see it when it gets to the cheap theater (that's not because of any supposed battle with TMNT, it is only because there are very, very few movies I see when they first come out. TMNT was one. The next won't likely be until Episode VII).

This is So Flawed First off GOTG isn't some holy perfect movie, Its most certainly not better then tmnt. They are very similar in a lot of ways. As for a "word of mouth" seriously It took number one for a reason Heck most people online loved it, check twitter filled with people and a large majority of people saw they will be seeing it again. Seriously Everyone who i have talked to (besides one guy) loved the movie. Twitter is filled with Positivity for the movie, Facebook, even most of the Comic book movie sites have alot of positivity

While it doesn't really matter in the long run (esp with the sequel already announced), I have to admit that seeing how it goes today and over the weekend is like waiting to see who wins the box office Superbowl. lol

Largely, seeing if the Turtles defend their top spot, despite an iffy storyline surrounding them and making them the box office underdog for it, is more just a bit of fun than anything else.

Yeah, I see a lot of tweets from #TMNTMovie of people who have seen the movie and loved it. It bothers me how some people just ignore the number of positive responses that you see all over twitter and only looking for the ones that are negative.

It's all subjective. No need to get mad at the people that have a more negative opinion than you do.

It only leads to stupid, pointless roundabout arguments about nothing and snarky gif responses.

I never said it was a holy perfect movie. But of course it's better than the tmnt. Honestly all it has going for it is blind nostalgia. If it was all-new original characters it would have bombed. And in a way, it almost seemed like it was all new original characters.

Let's not forget some of these twitters and whatnot are the same ones that make transformers tons of money and want sequels.

Take off the nostalgia goggles. The movie sucked. I'm as huge a tmnt fan as they come... But I'm not blind enough to say this movie was any good.

I'm so glad that it seems a good amount of people still feel this way. I really can't find anything redeemable or enjoyable in this film at all. I think this is what makes me so sad to think this is getting a sequel, because this universe they created for me has some of the worst representations of the characters thus far....as well as having a crap story.

I wonder if this next one does similar box office results like Amazing Spider-Man 2 if they'll just get rid of the whole thing or push a possible 3rd film back.

Ugh. Hope they John Fusco script leaks soon.

The way this thing is dropping like a rock in the BO is telling. The sequel definitely has it's battle ahead of it. I'm curious to what the production budget is going to be. This one now looks like it's going to barely break even, much less churn a profit. And then the directors says he's going to add in possible Bebop and Rocksteady and Dimension X? This is going to be like a 200 million dollar budget, and I just can't see Paramount throwing that kind of money to it.

I like how we're back on the 'It's a giant failure' train.

It was previously predicted to about what it made in a week for it's entire span in theaters. Let's calm down a bit here.

It never got off the giant failure train...

Though to be fair, we should wait to see how it does this weekend. But yeah word of mouth is gonna affect it badly. At least where I am the ones that haven't seen it are waiting for the DVD after hearing what everyone is saying about it.

I think people arent looking at the bigger picture here, I mean it still has plenty of countrys to open up in, toy lines and dvd sales. This movie will make more than enough money to spwn a sequel and be comfortable doing so.....

Unless the movie is making like 400 OS or more, then don't count on it to save the BO with a big budget. Remember, the studios get less than 50 percent of the OS BO compared to 80 percent or more domestic. In some countries like China, they have a max window of 2 weeks of theatrical release, and they only get 20 percent of the revenue, the rest goes to the Government.

Sometimes DVD sales and toy sales do help, like in case of Fantastic Four and Kick Ass 2, but in the end, I believe both sequels more or less kind of flopped for those franchises. The only reason why Fox is doing another Fantastic Four, is so they can maintain the rights, if they don't have a movie going on at least every 5 years, then the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four revert back to Marvel studios.

I love how last week everyone was saying I was crazy for saying that Paramount announcing a sequel was a move made out of desperation. Now I don't look so crazy now do I.

This movie needed to at least break even domestically in order to be even considered to make a sequel. If you think the toys will earn them money, go to the toy stores in a month or two, if the "Ninja Turtles" box art is still on the shelves, the merch isn't doing well. Don't forget money was invested to make those toys, they're not going to make money until they've paid off production costs (could be tens of thousands for each figure), oh and don't forget Walmart will kick your stuff off of their shelves if it's not selling incredibly well.

Viacom has stock holders, if you really think they're going to announce they're Q3 earnings as "well TMNT made slightly more than what we put into it " as a success, you're crazy.
