He was terrible. His voice didn't fit him (and why did he have an accent if he was born and raised in USA?), the design was downright ugly, the way he learned to fight was meh, and his personality was not that of the Splinter we have all come to know and love.

Yet another big strike against the new film.

I don't get why some people would call him ugly.

If ugly it would be TMNT 1,2,3 Splinter cause it looks like he's wearing homeless people's rags and his fur was thinning and wet looking. It's like he's so weak and could drop dead at any moment imo..

This one has a cool hoodie/jedi robe, can fight like a real fighter instead of standing in a corner all helpless, and he looks pretty cool. The kind eyes are my fave. And he's strict in discipline like 2k12 Splinter, my fave incarnation so far tbh.

I kinda understand those who prefer a younger, more active Splinter, but a huge point of the first movie's story was that Splinter was old, frail, and had one foot in the grave, so it made sense for him to look all weary and broken-down. And he technically WAS clothed in old rags he found in the sewer, after all. That's not my particular favorite version of Splinter, but in context of the story they were telling, his look fit perfectly.

When I heard he was going to be fully CGI and have a big fight with Shredder in this movie, the very fits thing I thought was, "I hope it's not as cheesy as the Yoda fight scene," and it's a little disheartening to see so many direct comparisons.

I think I like either OT Splinter or 2K3 Splinter the best. Not really sure.

Cuz mutant rats aren't cute? lol I dunno, the Turtles' designs were defended for a long time online with statements that mutants (for some reason) shouldn't/aren't supposed to be cute. Same thing? Though some people might also find rats creepy and therefor not cute at all when made too real..?

I think it's the opposite. He wasn't real enough.
He looked like he was made of rubber, and that top knot was just, laughable.
I get that the top knot is in style these days, but ugh...
They could have dialed in more realism, especially in the face, but I think Eastman has always had a thing for the grotesque, like in NM.

They chose to go the toxic avenger route, and looking back now, it makes sense. Eastman has always loved Simon Bisley, who makes cool, but garish design choices, and has a very aggressive style.

Because of the scene, I had a hard time getting behind the Turtles to save him, I would have been more behind them saving April for some reason, since she is the one that helped give them a second life.
Exactly what I thought when I watched that scene. The thing with Raph was just abusive and not Splinter-like, according to me.

Spoiler:
I'm glad though that "he made a funny" at the end when he was saved.

2014 Splinter vs. "Attack of the Clones" Yoda in a "Look What We Can Do With Computers Nowadays, You Guys!" no-holds-barred CGI slap-fight. BOOK IT!

I loved his design, but he was way too hard on the Turtles.
