Once again, these were never considered. Some artists had these ideas and they were rejected by producers. This has nothing to do with the "Hollywood mentality" of the filmmakers.

This is the worst design yet. Doesn't make the one we got look any better, but this is really, really awful.

Exactly. The designs we got are just the lesser of two evils.

That's bad. Really bad. The ones we got were better! That's not saying much, but still.

These are inexcusable....I would like to know more of a backstory on the images. Was this just a design someone submitted based off an early outline of the script, or were these legitimately considered?!

Would it kill these movie productions to hire a group of both fans and normal movie goers to run ideas past? They could sign a non disclosure agreement so the info doesn't get leaked. I just think these studios could better appeal to fans if they asked some fans what they would like or want to see. This goes for all adaptations of comics and books.

At least what we got is better in the sense that after the first awkward meeting and any freakouts are out of the way, you might want to know them.

Those models however? No, that's ok... I'll just stay here safe on my own planet, in my own dimension. Un-experimented on. Un-enslaved.

The thing is, they can't just appeal to fans, they have to appeal to a general audience as well. Appealing to just fans of certain versions of whatever is just limiting. To be fair it is pretty tough and tricky to balance.

wow, what a hilarious reaction from some of you guys, I can see you spitting at your computer screens!

This is concept art. When artists let their creative juices flow. This was obviously for the rejected alien concept script, where the "turtles" actually just vaguely resemble earth bound turtles. In all honesty I love these kinds of designs, but this was probably one of hundreds of different takes they could have gone with.

If these guys listened to everything the fans suggested, the movie might have ended up being even worse.

Hell, the outcry about white Shredder meant the movie being further destroyed in reshoots and editing.

One bad design doesn't make another bad design better.

Honestly?

With a little bit of work, I don't think this looks half bad. My only main concerns are that the limbs don't have enough muscle and the shell is way too big and spiky, but otherwise, I actually kinda like this. Slap on a bandana, belt, and all the necessary arm and leg equipment, and those things I mentioned are really the only things I'd say would need to be fixed.

But, I could be in the minority for actually wanting realistic looking TMNT. Though I could say it's a look better suited for something closer to the tone of the original comics than any of the cartoons.

Nope, just the concept artists. If you're asked to do concepts for a TMNT film, crap like this shouldn't even enter your brain. It IS still part of the Hollywood mindset, because these guys design characters for movies.

Personally I don't find them as a very realistic take on a humanoid turtle, the limbs are too thin and lanky, the legs are more lizard then turtle. The torso is the atypical heroic beefcake triangle body, which don't encompass the look of a Turtle, no plastron, the shell is all wrong. Only the head looks turtle-esque, but a full-on beak is too subtle for the general movie goer.

It's really just more evidence that they went into this project dead set on to "fixing" a design that didn't need fixing. Even though these designs were rejected, they were based on what the project was asking for on some level. Like, at no point did they consider making the Ninja Turtles just look like the Ninja Turtles? Apparently not. Yeesh.

Yeah, but "could have been worse" doesn't make what we got "good".

"You could be eating elephant feces for dinner, so smile and enjoy your horse crap, you whiner!"

I don't really think it's that tricky. The public is familiar with the Ninja Turtles and know what they look like. They like them. You can make them more "realistic", but it's stilly to go too far or alter them too much. Absolutely nobody would have complained if the movie gave us a more "classic" look for the Turtles. Hell, it probably would have gone over a lot better.

It's pretty obvious that was going to be a mess regardless. Even if you took out the Japanese Shredder, Sacks was a paper-thin character whose plot and motivation made no sense.

I wasn't talking about these designs in particular (in fact, a few posts earlier I said how I would prefer if the Ninja Turtles would just simply look like the Ninja Turtles). I was referring to someone who asked why the studios just don't hire fans to help with comic book movies in general and the fact still remains that it's not always in the film's best interest to cater so much to the fans when you have to literally try to please a bigger audience as well.

I can't believe people are actually backing these designs up.

Look, if they wanted to make a movie about reptiles from space invading or whatever, then just do that, but don't completely change this franchise to the point where it's non-recognizable.

They could've tried these ideas without paying for the TMNT rights in the first place.
