This sums it up for me. The turtles themselves were good (I actually have grown to the designs a little) but Shredder, April, Splinter=bad.

Terrible designs, terrible plot and story, bad choreography, bland cinematography, blatant disregard for certain elements. Not too bad casting, well integrated special effects.

Overall a sour experience.

The movie was... Well... You know how technically the 1990 movie is not really a good movie but it has enough decently done elements for it to be enjoyable enough? This has similar negatives but it does not have enough positives this time.

C'mon, demand more out of Hollywood, guys.

Did anybody see the dark knight trilogy? They can treat comic movies on another level these days, and this one fell below the level of the 1990 original.

Friggin pathetic. Stop eating this crap up, demand something quality for once.

Unfortunately, it's not up to us select few on the technodrome. It's up to the millions of other people out there, mostly kids I reckon.

Yeah, it isn't up to us. I had a bunch of friends on facebook going "OH LOOK AT THE NEW TMNT TRAILER WOOO" and I had to warn them it would be crap, and low and behold, it was.

I don't even have problems with changing things up for movies etc, just make the changes for the better, not because you have to change something up for the sake of it.

*but in the spirit of your signature the nick toon is rather good, and the IDW comics are CRAZY good.*

Maybe if we're lucky this sequel will get pushed back enough that for whatever reason, it becomes an after thought for the studio.

Have to disagree with you entirely with your 1990 movie not being good comment.

Unlike the 2014 film, the original film has a clear, cohesive & sensical plot that allows it's title characters to be the stars and everyone has the right amount of screen time.

It blends the comic and cartoon quite well and it's antagonist actually has genuine motivation for his plan.

Yeah, I've never heard anyone really say the original film was "Bad"; maybe cheap. Once you mentally allow for any budgetary restrictions, it holds up really well. It's not like it has a ton of plot holes or bad acting or things that don't make any sense, it was just done on the cheap.

Meanwhile, tons of movies coming out these days are made on a budget that's larger than the entire annual GDP of some smaller countries, and still can't finagle their way around those pesky little "plot holes/bad acting/nonsense story" traps. Funny thing, that.

Sad thing, they could probably hire an intern from a film school who would do a cohesive script, free of charge, just get the experience and some credits. And they could probably do a lot better job than the morons being payed the millions to do it.

Come on guys.. it could have been a lot worse (I was expecting worse) the Turtles got a pretty good amount of screentime.

Definitely more than the Transformers in their movies. (Although AOE really improved on this issue)

And judging by the poll, most people on this site liked the movie lol.

Watched it today the second time. Liked it more than the first time (maybe the first time I was trying to find all of its problems, this time I just shut my brain). And maybe it is better to be short for kids. But, in any case, I hope to see normal plot and story in sequel and everything need to be not so rushed.

I feel like a smaller budget can be an asset sometimes. I know that the 1990 movie was a pretty grueling production for the cast/crew at times, but I'd wager it also had a smaller/tighter crew, less studio meddling, and less cooks to spoil the broth in general. (They also clearly had a better director and better writers, so that helps too.)

The best mega-blockbusters tend to be the ones where the writers/producers/director have a clear vision and have/give each other the creative freedom to see it through. Safe to say that was not the case with the Platinum Dunes movie.

Technically, more than 50% of the responders disliked at least some of it. It's a very mixed reception at best.

Solid C-

By no means a "good" movie. Had a lot of issues but a surprising amount of things I enjoyed. But I didn't regret seeing it.

Didn't like it. 4/10.

Way too much exposition. Way too much time spent explaining the uninteresting origin. Not enough time spent getting to know the turtles or fleshing out their personalities, and they were all stripped down to their most basic character traits. Rushed and/or underused elements left and right. Obvious reshoots and deleted scenes. Almost everything was blandified across the board. One of the most heartless, mechanical, lazy, uneconomical screenplays I've seen in a while.

At the least the action was ok, and the humor and performances were better than expected.

I was so pumped for this movie, and yet it turned out to be the only film I saw this summer that I actively disliked. Here's hoping the sequel's a little bit better.

I disagree with this assessment, but I don't think this is something we should get behind if we assume this assessment to be true.

If not for Steve Barron, the first one would have suffered from the Hollywood mess.

The 1990 film was really good, considering the technology and budget they had to work with.

You liked it if you shut off your brain.

That explains everything wrong with this movie.

Yeah, it's the plot in the 1990 movie does make a lot more sense and it's good that the characters have some genuine moment, it's still the superior film in this case after all.

The problem is that a lot of the elements feel like they're crammed in, the subplot about Danny (which takes up a signifigant portion of the movie) was invented for the movie and it's kind of weak since Danny joins the Foot really weak reasons like "Dad treats me like a kid".
In addition to that, okay I know there are brief moments where the turtles' individual character traits show like in the "waiting for pizza" scene but most of the time (except for Raph) they feel more or less like variations on the same guy, who constantly spouts puns and pop culture references and that's really annoying.

Like I said though, there are enough decent parts about the 1990 movie to make enjoyable enough but I would only recommend it people who are already TMNT fans and I don't think I would recommend it to people unfamiliar with TMNT.
