From another thread, but figured I'd post it here. Not sure if anyone's done this yet?

Because I'm a huge nerd, I just ran the numbers on season 1 and season 2's ratings up to Karai's Vendetta (the last one noted on Wikipedia). The mean average of per-episode viewers was approx. 2.84m in season 1 vs approx. 2.5m in season 2 (so far).

It's dropped off a bit, but that seems pretty solid to me. Granted, if they keep moving it around in the schedule without promoting it, that'd cause problems for anything. But it's a bit soon to start worrying too much, IMO.

They give him way more recognition than the other shows they play.

He just doesn't seem to fade away.

If I had to guess on why Nick would kill the show on purpose (which I seriously doubt), it's that I've heard it's cheaper to keep the franchise going with a new show instead of giving the established one more seasons, this part of the reason why Transformers has had nine (yes, nine) cartoons the past twenty years and yet another one coming out next year or why let's say Ben 10 (not a Ben 10 fan by the way) is not even ten years old and is already on it's fourth cartoon.

So yeah, even if they would be trying to kill the cartoon they will never try to kill the franchise.
Doesn't Ben 10 continue the story through each series. He's aged up each series along the way isn't he?

SpongeBob kind of reminds of the Simpsons in that regard. Most people agree that it's not what it used to be but somehow still sticks around long after it went downhill until the "bad" period makes up the majority of the run.

I don't follow Ben 10, from what I understand that is true up until the latest one. I'm not sure what the latest one really is though, if it's some kind of reboot or prequel.

One thing's for sure. Nick is letting people know it's online. I was watching Mazes and Mutants on Nick and afterwards, an ad came on saying "Cant wait til next Friday for a new episode? Why wait?! Go online now and watch it!" Lol! Honestly, I think they get more ads in through online. I'd have fast forwarded through most on the tv ( would have set to record), but I just sat through quite a few ads through the online player.

This is a great point. Online-first and online-only programming is pretty big right now and only getting bigger every day, so Nick might not be putting too much stock in traditional ratings alone. They're probably getting some good online ad revenue by releasing them early, and they'll still get the usual ad money from the televised airing too. Not bad.

I remember hating spongebob on the very first episode when it was originally aired. My first reaction and my cousins' was that it was really stupid. I am amazed on the continuation of that dumb show.

I really hope this turtles show continues for a while, ringing up at around 6- 7 seasons. I don't watch this show on the regular station, but I'd hope that they are still marketing the crap out this show, it deserves at least that because of well this stuff sells.

I don't know about more ads, but they probably can actually get their own hard core statistics at how popular the show is via web hits, instead of just relying on Nielsen, which has been proven to be a flawed system.

That's a good point, though I think they probably make a pretty penny since you can't fast forward through the ads, lol! Yeah, Nielsen ratings are definitely flawed. A few years ago, my family got all the Nielsen stuff. We all lived together still then, so there were six people constantly changing stations, always recording stuff, I don't think the surveys were ever filled out. I don't know if they still have it.

Watching the online player reminds me of tv when I was a kid, no pause, fast forward, etc. Hurry and do things during commercial, lol.

Hah, when a commercial comes on TV, guess what I do, I will click MUTE on the remote and then get up to do something! The only time I actually make an effort to watch a commerical would be during Super Bowl!

Lol, I rarely watch live tv, so I can usually fast forward it. The Nick online player doesn't let me (use my iPad) The ads there are shorter than commercials, but still, none are really aimed at my demographic anyway.

Interesting. Previously, I could not watch the Nick player for nothing, constand buffering and it was just a hassle. Now since Chinatown Ghost Story, I have been able to watch it, with no problems, and I get no ads at all! It keeps on streaming all the way through without a hitch.

What?? Are you on a PC with Google Chrome and adblocker maybe. I knew I should have dragged my laptop back out! I have to sit through like 6-8 ads every time. And if I accidentally touch another tab, the entire thing restarts. I mean, it streams fine and all, not really a buffer. The ads are just kind of a pain.

Yep, laptop via Google and ad blocker, plus I have adblocker through Trend Micro Titanium. Now, it doesn't seem to help with the ads on youtube (which drives me nuts sometimes) but oh well. And, I'm on DSL! When I was looking into DSL, so many friends of mine were like, don't do it, it sucks, you wont be able to stream Netflix or watch youtube, it will super suck. I've had DSL now for 3 years, and haven't had a hitch.
