DC vs Marvel: Future Movie Line-Up

In the past few weeks, Marvel and DC have made some pretty big announcements. Captain America 3 will be based off of Civil War, and will star Robert Downey Jr. DC then announced their future movie line-up through 2020. Then, today, Marvel announced a boat load of movies.

I'm wondering which line-up you are most excited about and looking forward to, and why. And this isn't a "hey, I love DC/Marvel more than Marvel/DC, so I'll say I'm more excited for that certain line-up". No, this is more about what clump of movies you overall prefer over the other, and why.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts and having a discussion about them. Also, if you want to get a little more in depth with it, you could dissect each movie you're interested/not interested in seeing or have faith in/don't have faith in.

Just interested in hearing everyones thoughts! In case you haven't heard anything about this Marvel and DC line-up, here's some info:

Upcoming DC Movie Line-Up: Batman vs Superman (2016), Suicide Squad (2016), Wonder Woman (2017), Justice League: Part 1 (2017), The Flash ( 2018 ), Aquaman ( 2018 ), Shazam (2019), Justice League: Part 2 (2019), Cyborg (2020), Green Lantern (2020), and Superman and Batman solo movies (TBD)

Upcoming Marvel Movie Line-Up: Avengers 2: Age of Ultron (2015), Ant-Man (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Doctor Strange (2016), Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Black Panther (2017), Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 ( 2018 ), Captain Marvel ( 2018 ), Inhumans ( 2018 ), Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 (2019)

Crap, I clicked the wrong one by accident (stupid touchpad). I meant to click DC.

I mean, I generally like almost all comic book movies, and I know it's against the "rules", but I'm more interested in DC's characters and am interested to see some of them in live-action film for the first time. Most of Marvel's films are sequels, and placeholder films with lesser characters nobody cares about like Dr. Strange and Ant-Man, to kill time so they can eventually re-cast the "real" Avengers with cheaper actors.

They'll probably all turn out just fine in the end, but I'm not as excited for Marvel's. They'll probably be good movies, but some of them just seem transparently like, "Here, this'll keep you kids busy until we can find an Iron Man who doesn't expect 50 million bucks for a weekend or two of close-up shots in a so-called 'starring' role."

I'm leaning toward Marvel. I like Batman most of the time and his circle (Catwoman, Batgirl, Robin, Joker and so forth) I'm intrigued by a Wonder Woman movie, and I am hoping to see Chloe Grace Moretz in a Supergirl flick. But that's it for DC.

Marvel, I love Captain America, Ironman, Bucky, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Black Panther, Hulk, Thor, Loki, Rocket, Groot, Starlord and the twins. And while they are not part of the MCU line up, I also like the X-Men world too.

I'm excited for most comic flicks. I think everything but Turtles 2.

I wish I was, I wish I was. If that happened, that movie right there could trump anything Marvel is doing for me. I know when names are getting tossed around who would make a great Supergirl, Moretz is one of the most mentioned names. Hey, the internet is being blamed for the possible casting of Benedict Cumberbatch for Dr Strange, maybe DC might listen to the internet for Supergirl casting choices.

I know, right. If someone was to come back into time and tell me that ten years ago that I would actually not care for a CGI/live action movie of the TMNT, I would have never, ever believed them.

I've always preferred Marvel to DC. The X-Men were my favorite team growing up (Mutant things).
But I love Captain Marvel, I actually enjoyed Civil War, LOVE Infinity Gauntlet, and I never read GotG comics but the movie was so enjoyable I can't wait for the next one.
While the movies DC has put out are unmistakably great movies, I haven't enjoyed them as much as some of the recent Marvel movies I've seen. I've always enjoyed DC's animated features a lot more than their live action stuff.

I'm really hoping some Hulk movies get announced after all these other things, because out of all the big, fairly-recent storylines from Marvel, Planet Hulk and WWH were my absolute favs. I love me some Hulk.

I know I'm accused a lot of hating Marvel whenever I post criticism in threads about their movies, but I really don't. I grew up reading their comics, i saw their live-action 70s output, I've watched all of their animated series in the 1990s, I've seen them take their first ackward baby steps in tv and movies, Generation X, the crummier Captain America movie with italian Red Skull, Roger Coreman's Fantastic Four, Thor and Daredevil from the 90s Hulk reunion movies...I've stuck by their side and put up with a lot. I even love the Clone Saga!

I have seen promise in a lot of their current movies, and they are in a better place now than they ever were in the formative years leading to their output...but it's still been a mixed bag for me over the years. Each Iron Man movie is weaker than the one before (does'nt mean they're bad, just dissapointing), Thor has two generic movies in a row that get by based on the raw commanding spark of it's lead actors. Cap I has a lot of charm being a period peice, but sort of feels toyetic and a sequel hook more of the time than it's own movie. Avengers I had virtually no plot. While Phase I had it's moments, Phase II has been a massive dissapointment, and only Winter Soldier can truly claim to be a distinct masterpiece, in turn, it also led to a woefully underperforming Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D redeeming itself in it's last half and managing to avoid cancelation. Time will tell if it can repeat the success, though ratings for it are still slipping somewhat.

It's just sad to see so many of the rather fickle public routinely pick Marvel over DC when their product really is a shell of itself nowadays. Their cartoons stink, you cannot say with a straight face Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble and Agents of S.M.A.S.H are the cream of the crop in the wake of Spectacular Spidey, Avengers: EMH and any X-Men show seen in the past. Outside of those shows, DC have them flat out beat in that regard.

All of Marvel's best comics lately tend to be very niche and don't have a lot of shelf life in them because of ever diminishing interest. Their flagship titles are a mess, with one of their leading books being consigned to the scrapheap for the forseeable future (Fantastic Four) after routine relaunches because of declining sales (and to spite FOX mostly), which in turn are a result of a 27 year period of development stagnation for the characters.

Their attitude to critics is also appauling, don't be fooled by this snake-oil charm and fan interaction, you need only go on Tom Brevroot or Dan Slott's twitter to see how snarky and seedy the underbelly of this company's creative teams are.

DC on the other hand have always been more approachable to me. Their characters more redeemable, even their arguably bleaker worlds have a spark of fun and intrigue to them. I would greatly prefer an Animal Man, Sandman and Kirby's Fourth World movie over Captain Marvel and Black Panther.

I'm leaning toward Marvel. Some of the last Marvel-films were pretty good and Avengers was awesome, but the last Superman-movie was just meh... (fantastic start and boring second half).

I look forward to them all as "comic book movies" I don't do the DC Vs. Marvel thing.

Seriously, are there people still like that? This is not the 80's anymore, people don't have to, "take sides." I feel like these 30-40 year old adults are ruining superheroes for the rest of us because things aren't like the, "good old days" or so to speak.

I stick with Marvel.
I prefer humans attempting to be gods, rather than gods pretending to be humans.

Also, I prefer lighthearted entertaining movies about gods and superhumans, rather than wannabe dark flicks.

Marvel has shown themselves to be very capable of consistently creating quality films. Even Iron Man 3 and The Incredible Hulk aren't that bad.

DC on the other hand is very shaky. The Nolan trilogy is great, but Man of Steel was horrid, Green Lantern a joke, and Batman vs. Superman is already shaping up to be overcrowded. So it's a lot easier to be excited for Marvel's upcoming films than for DC's.

If it looks fun I'll go to see it.
The upcoming Marvel movies look fun, the upcoming DC lineup...not so much.

(Can we be done with "Daddy Issues" soon please?)

As someone who himself had to slowly warm up to MoS and will readily admit there's a bunch wrong with it... I'm still waiting to be convinced it was "horrid". I see it said a lot, but like when people say the same thing about "Returns", it just seems like rhetoric.

Flawed? Easily. Horrid? I don't see it. As many things as I DON'T like, MoS still gets more right than wrong. And it's visually stunning. Really, the absolute worst thing I can say, is that large chunks of the dialog were absolutely painful and I refuse to acknowledge the Johnathan Kent death scene. I have no real issue with the rest of it.

Could've been more upbeat, sure, but DC is hell-bent on turning Superman into a Marvel character, which is what You People have been demanding for years, so if people are going to cry about it now because we have a darker, mopier Superman, well, you all brought it on yourselves. I Warned You.

Not sure if I agree with your Marvel comment. If anything I'd say they were trying to make him more Batman-esque. Hence the hiring of Nolan and Goyer.

On a surface level I could see a person thinking that, by being "darker" and having "The Batman Guys" working on it, but Batman has an entirely different assortment of neuroses and character flaws. With the newer version of Superman from MoS and the comics, it's far more of a Marvel-esque conceit of "gods who bemoan the fact that they're gods" rather than anything at all like Batman. Batman's all about a guy whose emotional development stopped at age ten and has since lived his entire adult life acting out a wounded child's revenge fantasy instead of moving on like a normal person. It's really nothing at all like what they've done and are doing with Superman. Only in that "it's dark" are they similar.

See, the Superman I grew up with was not only at peace with his powers and his mission, he actually had FUN being Superman, so to me, the biggest sin the newer writers have committed is the whole "I wish I was normal" bit. No, no, you can FLY, you can punch through walls and shoot fire from your eyes... your life is awesome. Embrace it. New Superman is almost the opposite. "Well, I don't WANNA be Superman, but I will if I haaaaaaave to..." Ever since "Smallville". And it's definitely more of a Marvel thing, and I hate it. For Superman, anyway. It fits in that world; it doesn't work in a universe where the heroes are modern-day versions of the Titans of myth, and are celebrated rather than feared.

It's odd, however - and many people have commented on this - that the DC movies are trying to adopt more of Marvel's conceits, while Marvel's movies have adopted DC's in many ways. I mean, on one hand, it shows how aware they are, collectively, of how ideas need to be executed differently on film than in print, but at the same time, it's odd that Marvel's books have historically been more angsty while their films are more "fun", and the inverse for DC's products. Just odd.

Superman just doesn't work in a "realistic" scenario. If a guy like Superman really existed and could move at super speed and is super powerful he'd be a God and nobody could take him down.

Superman: TAS by Bruce Timm is the best version of the character since in that show he wasn't any stronger than the average super villains.

If only you spent as much time over-analyzing super-heroes the way you do seemingly everything else. If nothing else, you'd realize how silly you sound a lot of times.
