That sith lightsaber looks so stupid.

It's like the new generation of sith prefers flashy, useless addition, impractical lightsaber ...just dumb and unintimidating.

Even a fanmade could do better:

No, it's not.

When it comes to interconnected stories, the biggest enjoyment could be derived, when you see the picture as the whole. Based on interconnected nature of comic'verses and SW'verse the biggest enjoyment can be taken, when you know as much information as possible, to get all those little throwbacks, hints, nods, e.t.c. Sure, it's possible to enjoy things separately, but then full picture will always evade you.

I don't have strong feelings about new saber. It looks OK, but nothing sensational. I hope in the movie it would be shown how additional guards can be used in battle.

Am I the only one who likes the little beach ball droid? He's kinda cute. And way faster than R2-D2.

My thoughts regarding Darth Unknown's Lightsaber...

If it's really a sith artifact, we could very well be looking at the precursor to the more modern / elegant lightsabers of the prequel era (as opposed to the Rebellion era when jedi sabers focused more on function than being all bling and pretty) If this is the case, it would explain the raw/savage look of the blade and the less refined concept of heat venting. (which is currently the favorite theory regarding the crossguard and the only way I'm able to wrap my head around such a design)
I can just imagine Mace Windu looking at this old artifact (or the Old Ben weathered saber for that matter) "Dude, your saber is sooo ghetto"

As for the trailer, I'm super pumped and optimistic.
You can already see a lot of homage paid to the early Ralph McQuarrie design concepts and the "props and sets over CGI" film making style JJ's using to give the sequels a more original trilogy feel. Yes, there will be a year's worth of CG added, but it's not going to be just bluescreen like the prequels and that's the most exciting part for me. I still believe the franchise is in capable hands.

I love how you guys are ignoring the fact that a cross guard lightsaber has existed in the EU for years.

You're kind of missing the point. Cubed is basically saying, "It's absolutely Everything or Nothing, and if I can't read/watch literally every single thing, I'm not going to bother with any of it." And frankly, that's not just a silly way to look at things, it's a F*cking Stupid way to look at things. YES, if you actually get all the fan-service wank-off references, you'll get more enjoyment out of it, but it's in no way at all friggin' necessary to enjoy any of it on its own. What's great about a franchise like Star Wars is there's a ton of stuff to enjoy whether a person creeps into the "Deep End" or not. If you do, yeah, it's more fun, but you don't HAVE to do that, especially since they've written a billion things by now. Jeezus. Even George Lucas has never seen or read 95% of it; let yourselves off the hook a little bit, gang. Nobody's grading you on having first-hand experience of the entire Star Wars Universe.

My point was, Cubed is basically saying he's never had crackers before, and since he can't have every cracker in the entire goddamn store, he's not gonna have any. That's entirely short-sighted and it takes all the fun out of things. Crackers are great because you can have a few now and go get more later if you feel like it, but there's no obligation to eat the whole box just because you ate one. Either way you'll be satisfied. That's an abstract example but you get the idea.

I'm passing the time until next December by rereading a tun of EU books. I know the novels prior to New Dawn aren't canon anymore, but I need more Sw stuff to enjoy other than six movies and 130 or so episodes of animation. As for the new trilogy, I'm hoping I can make it to all the midnight premieres this time around. I made it to Revenge of The Sith during the prequels but that was about it. I'm always excited for anything Star Wars, and can't wait for the new trilogy and standalone films.

But how can I read select stories when they're all in the same continuity? Its like starting a TV show in the middle of Season 5 instead of watching at the beginning and wondering what the hell is going on. I watch things in order and mostly everything or not at all.

This is why outside of TMNT, I find it difficult to get into comics. Marvel, DC, Star Wars...its all overwhelming with tons of comics and continuity issues.

Pre-DVD/Internet days we all got into shows in middle points and understood the stories well enough, and I'm not talking only about episodic shows like Ninja Turtles but I used to watch anime's with storylines as a kid and was able to get into them without a problem.

I am actually a lot like you I try to watch things in order and try to watch everything that is "in continuity" but it was actually with comics that I realized it was an impossible task, but I can deal with now just reading some good story lines, in fact not knowing ALL the baggage makes the stories more enjoyable (in comics) as you don't see as many contradictions.

Now as far as Star Wars, even though everything is in continuity you don't need to read everything to enjoy it most things are stand alone stories or are storylines that begin and have an ending. Sure there are dozens of Boba Fett stories but you don't need to read them all in order just the "connected ones". Want to read what happened between Empire and Jedi? Read the comic/book/videogame of Shadows of the Empire and no need to read any more EU. Want to know what happened in the storyline where the emperor was cloned? Read Dark Empire Trilogy, that's where the storyline ends. Most other stories won't reference Dash Rendar from Shadows of the Empire, that doesn't mean Shadows of the Empire wasn't relevant he's just not relevant to the new story you're reading since Dash Rendar's story started and finished with Shadows of the Empire, his story is still enjoyable. Sometimes there's small references in other stories like saying "The time Luke used the dark side of the force" a reference to the Dark Empire Trilogy but if you didn't read the comic all you need to know is that Luke went to the dark side for a bit and that's it that's how much it affects the current book. Hell I would actually say its better if you didn't read Dark Empire since you can imagine something much more interesting than what actually happened. Sure the Super Star Wars Geek will get every reference, but if you don't that's ok. Hell the Prequel Trilogy and even the Special Edition of the original movies are filled with EU characters. You actually see Dash Rendar's ship in Episode IV which if you didn't bother with Shadows of the Empire its just a ship leaving Tattooine but if you did then you can enjoy it since he mentions in the book that he had already been in Tattoine before. There are indeed some novels/comic series that aren't as stand alone and need some background but a quick look at wikipedia or just start those respective series from the start, reading 24 novels that mention things from the past isn't as bad as reading 400 SW novels that have minor if any references. And even those can be enjoyed by themselves.

Think of it like the DCAU, you can enjoy Justice League Unlimited without having watched the previous shows, hell that's how I started with JLU and enjoyed it, after I watched JLs1 and 2 I enjoyed it even more but maybe I would've never checked out JLs1 and 2 if it hadn't been for JLU which aired after Teen Titans. You can enjoy the Static Shock crossover in JLU without having watched his show but if you watched all of his show then maybe you get to enjoy that a little more. And actually for CyberCubed its easier than ever since all the previous SW's EU is now referred to as "Legends" and only the new novels/comics/videogames are in continuity, so you only need to read 2 novels, the TV show and 4 issues of a comic so far and you're filled in with the new Disney Star Wars Expanded Universe...

Man, normally I think Lucas gets too much slack and its undeserved for the most part but that trailer while not 100% accurate was hilarious, I cracked up at the lightsaber part.

Besides, tons of stuff in Star Wars happened thousands of years apart anyways, so saying, for example, "I can't play Knights of the Old Republic because even though it was literally a couple thousand years before the films' events, I'm still not sure if I'll be able to enjoy it unless I know exactly how it rippled through the entire canon and affected the movies," that's silly.

So much stuff is only "connected" in the loosest sense of the word, so it makes no sense to abstain from all of it just because some of it doesn't interest you, or you're not sure where it "fits". Like me, I never really got into the X-Wing novels. For some people, it's their favorite part of the lore and they don't even care much about the Jedi stuff. I don't dislike it but it's not my bag, really, so I just don't read those. It's never once made it any harder for me to figure out what was going on in any of the books or comics I DO read. Most of the stuff is written well enough to still be enjoyable as a self-contained piece of work, anyways.

Star Wars is like a sci-fi buffet. Just like any decent buffet, they have Everything and Way Too Much of it all; nobody expects anyone else to sample every single thing, it's not mandatory, and all you really get out of doing it is a kind of bloated, sick feeling. If you pick a little here and there and go back for the rest at your leisure, you'll be a lot better off in the long run.

Believe me, man, I get it. I was the same way, even by 1997 there was "too much" Star Wars to absorb, so I just stopped looking at it that way. Once I realized nobody was going to give me a Geek Medal for having read every book, novel, and watching "The Ewok Adventure", I just started taking it as something that I could go into as deep or as shallow as I wanted.

I mean, it's literally never going to end, it's going to continue after you die, you'll never, EVER see/read/do everything that's ever going to exist of Star Wars, anyway. Why miss out on a lot of awesome stuff just because there's "Too much" of it? Too much of a good thing is a really great "problem" to have, if you ask me. Besides, a good chunk of the EU might not even interest you, but some definitely would. Why feel obligated to get into ALL of it, just because it's there? That's WHY they make a bunch of different stuff, because not everybody likes everything SW has to offer but they still like the brand in general.

That's why it's become such an enduring piece of pop culture. Not because of those movies, but because Star Wars has Something For Everyone and you can take what you want from it and leave the rest alone, or go back to it later on. Or not. But ignoring ALL of it just because it's a lot, nah, that's really silly. Just have fun with it, man. It's F'n fake.

The Old Republic is something that is hard to get into, If your someone whose used to either the original or prequel eras, The Old Republic is far removed from the Star Wars were used to, Even though the aliens, the planets and the factions remain the same.

I don't think it's hard at all. What's so difficult about, "Same Place, Different Time"? Like, I never played the Old Republic MMO, but in KOTOR for example, you spend hours on Tatooine, and it's 2000 or so years before Luke's era, and obviously none of the movie characters are there, but literally everything else is exactly the same. There's even a "This Is NOT Jabba The Hutt But It Looks Exactly Like Jabba The Hutt and He's Actually The Exact Same Character But We Called Him Something Else Because Duh It's 2000 Years Before That, We're Clever". You spend the entire game hanging out with a wookie who's Literally Chewbacca With A Different Name. And so on and so forth.

It's really not hard at ALL to wrap your head around. At times it's actually pretty lazy on their part, how similar they keep things to the films just so people WON'T get confused. Like, if I'd written KOTOR, since it was thousands of years before the films, I probably wouldn't have kept it SO similar, but I get why they did it. But it really doesn't get much easier than "Same Setting With Different Characters (that are virtually stand-ins for the characters you know from the movies anyway)", which is something they do a lot in SW fiction to begin with.

So, I wonder. The new light saber that is shown, I wonder if the crossguard part can come off into two pieces and they can be thrown like daggers.

I think its more like a broadsword, Which makes sense, Since the two blades on the side, will prevent a saber from cutting your arm off.
