Getting kicked off a Wonder Woman forum for saying someone's comments about Steve Trever were "belittling" to men.

You just had to have been there

I was playing a video game and the game reset by itself without warning just when I was on the last stage. Boy does that suck!

In my opinion easily the better edition overall. The only nitpick I have with 4th is that combat takes too long, which is something our DM have fixed with a really easy tweak.

personally I find the whole edition war thing hilarious, cause no one is forcing people that don't like 4th to play it, just because it's (was) the latest edition, Wizard didn't come into their homes and burned the old books, they are still there, heck they have even been re-released. I love all the editions I've tried, every editions bring something up to the table and each fit in a certain types and style of games.

And the Edition Formerly Known as Next, do have some nifty stuff, it tries to harkens back to older editions, but the DMG is a cluster mess where it looks like they wrote keywords on cards, shuffled them and drew the cards randomly until they had enough to fill 250 pages, then added tables and lists to fill the remaining 50. the paragraphs seems to be written in that random order they drew the cards and the rolled a D20 to see how many paragraphs each subject got. it all seems randomly put together.

I had a lot of fun play-testing, but I'm rather iffy on the final product.
You just kind of illustrated my point about the 4th ed- that it just didn't "work" well in the long run. For starters, the reason it was so easy to play was because everything was SEVERELY dumbed down for "younger players". Not to mention the changes that were made to several of the base races/classes. And don't EVEN get me started on the way Wiz-bro handled their flagship setting of Forgotten Realms. They flat-out MURDERED it. I was playing 3.5 from the beginning, and although some of the later material in supplementary books was "broken" due to unbalanced rules. BUUUT- the rules as presented in the CORE books was fine. Piazo tweaked them a bit for the Pathfinder game/setting (which is what I'm currently using, and it's FAR better than 4th, IMHO- and I've been a player/DM for going on 20 years now.) but there wasn't much difference, and most of those were just balancing out some of the classes to be more even.

I played 4th ed ONE time. Hated it. Gave it a fair shake, read through BOTH core books TWICE, and found all of the changes cringe-worthy. As a DM, all I could say was "Why do we now have elves split into two separate races??! And why aren't gnomes playable??! And a few other choice comments that aren't repeatable. As a PLAYER, I found that several of my favorite PC's could NOT even be converted over or recreated for the new system!! Seriously, half of their abilities either didn't exist, or their race/class combination was no longer even possible. Or both. These were characters I'd been playing as or running as NPC's FOR YEARS. And some of my favorite races were no longer playable, either (I'm VERY fond of drow and half-dragons, and what was done to those two races was just- there are NO words....)

As for 5th, I got in very early on the play-test beta modules and materials, but never got much past that, as I didn't have anyone to play with at the time. I liked a lot of what I saw, but never got to actually run/play through it, so I've not done anything with it. It's also been over a year now since it was finally released, and I've had no money- nor a game store close enough- to actually go through any of the new books. But since I've now got another game group (and can FINALLY sit on the other side of the DM screen and actually PLAY for a change- which is refreshing after nearly 20 years of almost exclusively DM-ing) I haven't paid much attention to it since then.

You do know that they made Dragonborns, so people didn't have to jump through all the hoops in 3rd to play Half-Dragons. And the Dragonborn was in the first PHB. And Drow was listed as playable in the first MM (and Drow was Drow playable in the first manuals in 3rd? I don't recall so)

And even though Gnomes came in PHB2, they where still listed as playable in MM1.

Elves are separated races, cause they made High Elves (Eladrin) much more interesting with added real-life fey mythology, plus the high Elf lives in the Feywild which makes them a lot more different then the regular elf. And the Eladrin is separated into sub races such as Sun Elves, Moon Elvs and Llewyrr Elves. And regular Elves consists of Wood Elves and Wild Elves.

and not able to conver character and NPC's sounds like a poor argument for 4th being a bad edition.mits possible to convert characters and NPC's you just have to find what's similar and maybe reflavor some stuff (as y'd have to do with every edition jump) but, it's not recommendable to edition jump with an campaign, since it usually makes things difficult.

It's fine that you don't like 4th, but I find it strange that you have the need to jump on my unrelated post to slag the edition. Personally I find edition wars asinine and childish, but that's just me, Ive liked the editions I've played and those I haven't, I've read.

I'm not the biggest advocate of conspiracy theorists, but I always try to keep an open mind about their points and some things said and presented to me in their arguments do align with my own perspectives. What I hate is these people, even when they're not yammering on about how "9/11 was a government-sanctioned demolition job" and are instead focusing on more reasonable and believable forms of shady political dealings, in either local or foreign affairs, are lumbered in with the rest of the more extreme parties without a single thought or consideration.

I hate these with real life people, but fandom often portmanteaus the names of ships they support. Since there are real people shippers out there [yes. they're awful and embarrassing], there might be some overlap.

My gear-grind- that ONE person at a family get-together whom you just want to strangle, or maybe shove their head into the scalding hot cider. Or shove a baked potato down their throat whole. WITH the foil on it.

Talking about the step-dud here. As usual, he was being a complete @$$ to me and the hubby for the family X-Mas dinner yesterday. whining about us talking and enjoying being with my mom, threatening to drop us on the side of the road because he didn't want to deal with us having fun, etc. I tend to talk a lot around other people, and enjoy just spending time with my mom and the rest of the family, as does my other half.

My dad, being the curmudgeonly pr*ck he is, hates being around people in general, and gets annoyed easily. He also can't stand to let someone else watch what THEY want when he's not even watching the TV! Change the channel even for a minute while he's off doing something else, and he throws a fit. And this was while he was busy making his peanut brittle for about two hours, so it's not like he was coming right back- and he watches the most BORING $h*t on the planet. Alaskan State Troopers?! Seriously??!! He keeps it on for the noise, and nothing else. But gripes if you change it. Makes zero sense. And then he started griping about me having whatever this sinus crap is, and how I should just stay away from everyone, especially him. So I wouldn't get them all sick- especially HIM. Basically, according to him, I wasn't supposed to enjoy the dinner or talk to anyone. Jerk. And he's like this EVERY TIME.

Just to be a little catty back at him, I threatened to breathe all over him at one point, because he was being such a d*ck about it.

Sounds like a really annoying control freak who gets pissy whenever someone's not miserable, Duckie. So does he have run of everything or has anyone put him in his place when the need arises? Looks like you certainly try your best to do so. Having a good time just to spite him might be fun, but sounds like you tried to do just that. He was probably mad because he couldn't get a rise out of you guys. Good for you.

Wait until he's drinking then tell him you licked his glass...

Sunday grind... These things. The "One Second Needle".
Spoiler:

Trying to thread a needle might be frustrating on occasion, thus prompting someone to invent this, but trust me... actually using these needles are far more frustrating than trying to thread a regular one. Sure, you'll thread it in a snap... but when used it will also constantly snag threads in the fabric you're trying to pull the needle through.

Gave up and used my glue gun.

Duckie, that guy sounds like a jerk. I do like Alaska State Troopers at times, but he shouldn't have the right to tell anyone else what to watch when it's not his house. F*ck that.

Indigo, that sucks about the needle thing. Guess some things are too good to be true.

My gear grind: The weather even though it's not doing anything yet, but it will. Also that my dad just told me he's going to see my brother tomorrow when he's had this planned and never said a word about it. Gotta love secretive a**holes.

You're not wrong, BT. Sadly, no one in his family seems to have the balls to tell him off, they just usually ignore his jerky behavior. Honestly, I get better treatment from his two sisters and their families than from him. I'm the only one who ever really hands it back to him- and it really ticks him off that he can't intimidate me or that I won't just take it without calling him out on it. I certainly did try to enjoy the get-together in spite of him. Sitting at a different table helped. The rest of his family don't see his worst behavior most of the time though- he is too conscious of what others think of him. But that's just the mentality of this troglodyte. I even walked into the house when we first got there before he got inside and told mom "He really wants to get slapped, doesn't he?" She didn't disagree.....

Heh, wish I'd thought of that.... Sounds deliciously evil! It's okay, I gave him a big hug right before we came home, and was sitting right behind him in the car on the way there. If karma smiles, he'll get what's coming to him....

Well, actually, it WAS his house- and mom's, too- but the point was that he can't stand it if someone else is watching something he doesn't like or isn't interested in- which is just about everything except shows like that one, Gold Rush, Pass Time, Pawn Stars, or movies with fast cars, explosions, boobs, and um, Burt Reynolds or Kenny Rogers. And that's about it. Not to mention his "unless it's about cars, ranting against gays and Obama, or fishing, it's not worth talking about" mentality. Sweet Mother, but he's one of the most boring people I've ever known!

Duckie, my mom loves Gold Rush and I can't blame her for that. It's an okay show though I don't really watch it. She loves Swamp People, too, and Call of the Wildman.

I think he watches some of those, too. I just find that stuff to be- less than riveting. It's the kind of thing I would only ever watch if there was NOTHING else on at all. Like, if all the other channels were down or showing marathons of Barney or The People's Court. I could even forgive it if he watched other stuff too, but this is a guy who thinks NASCAR or drag racing are the only real sports out there. Or boat racing. Basically, unless it goes fast and has an engine- or has big boobs- he changes the channel. His tastes are so narrow and uninteresting to everyone else that even HE falls asleep watching them. But he throws a fit if someone wants to find something else on.
